resetting didn't come until windows 8. this was the reset back then but you need to do clean install. 8 and 8.1 required installation media for reset while 10 and 11 does not.

i remember something like an old version of windows 7 having a lower nt version than rtm (like version 6.0 i think) so you could actually upgrade to windows 7
