What if you uninstall Windows XP?

- If you upgraded to Windows XP from Windows 98 or Windows ME, you would have the opportunity to downgrade the OS back to the pre-upgrade version, assuming the filesystem is still FAT32. Here is a video showing the downgrade process in action.

Wow, this is surprisingly pro-consumer. Considering Windows 10 wouldn’t let you downgrade to Windows 7 these days, I’m surprised that Windows XP let you revert to the previous Windows installation.
Windows 10 does let us downgrade to the previous version of Windows if you upgraded from that to Windows 10 but it only available for 10 days after upgrading
@Zaydan Naufal Same, 10 days before the Windows.old folder gets deleted
@Zaydan Naufal you can downgrade but only less than 10 days after the upgrade
Man, if I did know I could uninstall Win XP when my dad upgraded it from 98 that time, I would've gladly done it lol
you can just rename the windows.old folder to something else and rename it back to windows.old when youre gonna downgrade
Nobody used Windows XP Uninstaller because Windows XP was a great OS by its time
It was the OS of the childhood and adolescence of many people, especially for the centennials.
That's true. In the early-mid 2000's, many businesses and corporations would buy new computers that came shipped with Windows XP and they would replace Windows XP with Windows 2000 Professional for compatibility and hardware reasons because Windows 2000 is also a great OS just like Windows XP is a great OS.
Just a person who wants to use me for 3 days
downgrade windows xp to mistake edition is very stupid
But still new is better than old
Even though this is just a demonstration it feels so cursed. Literally who would ever upgrade to XP, one of the greatest versions of Windows ever made, from ME of all OSes and think "meh, this sucks, I'm going back to ME."
Edit: alright guys I get it about compatibility issues lol, you don't have to keep telling me. I was mostly just joking to begin with that it's still funny to think about
Compatibility and performance issues. Simple answer.
1.- Hardware limitations probably.
2.- Compatibility reasons mostly.
3.- Drivers.
Other then what people already said, XP had some security issues at launch too. SP2 really gave it the legacy.
You could also downgrade to Windows 2000
@Mr Filip I'd agree but you'd want to downgrade to Windows 98 for MS-DOS mode rather then Me
Wow. Turns out that Windows XP can downgrade to Windows 98 and ME (if the drive is FAT32) or Windows 2000 (if the drive is NTFS), but obviously after a month or so, Windows will remove the ability to downgrade so a clean install would have to be done.
No downgrade to windows 2000 from xp. It was clearly specified in the windows xp help and support article that uninstallation option is not available for Windows NT and 2000. After many years, Windows 10 brought back that feature which was only available for 30 days.
Windows XP: Sure, just press OK and we'll uninstall
Windows 10: Are you sure? You'll miss out on all these features! That version will be outdated soon! Stay on Windows 10 please. Sign in to your Microsoft account to continue this process. Are you sure, again? Are you really sure? Here's some ads. Accept the License agreement to downgrade.
Like, cmon Microsoft, get over yourselves!
Yeah. They thought metro and fluent design was soooo great so they only wanted users to use them.
tbh its not actually like that lol, its more like
Windows 10: Why are you going back? Is our OS bad? Is 7 or 8.1 easier to use? Is it faster? Is it reliable? Please check for the latest updates to see if that fixes any of your problems! You do know this will take a while and you will need to reinstall everything! Do you remember your password from 7? You're free to come back to 10 anytime if you want advanced search, security and startup! This is your last warning, goodbye!
@@therealzhenplaz200 Yes i want use them.

Fun fact:The uninstallation bootscreen is also used in beta builds of Windows Server 2003.
Yes,no XP anymore!
Incredible! I didn't know you could do that thing about going back to a previous version of Windows.
It would be called a rollback process. When a native software like Windows Media Player is upgraded, then you decide to downgrade to a previous version
@@Gui2226 Yes. The same occurs with Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 7: you can downgrade it to IE8 (that's the native version of IE in Windows 7)

I though it was a fan-made, but then i realized that its an actual feature of Windows XP, wow...
Btw if you upgrade windows 10 to windows 11 you can uninstall it using 'go back' button, but this feature only work in 10 days after upgrading
Windows Me users be like:
Go back I want to be ME!
I guess somebody didn't like Windows XP so much, that they would rather install Millennium edition back. Even XP looks kinda sad in this video
I mean someone should be really out of their mind if they wanted to downgrade to ME from XP
@@slavboii420 well, if they find windows xp running slower than 98 or me, I wouldn’t complain if they wanted to downgrade
@@user4216 Good point, and I think eventually ME got better with Service Packs
When the computer boots up for the second time in this video, the progress bar for boot is grey and the XP is gone from the logo (of course, your going back)
I'm interested about if you uninstall vista, 7 or 10. Example: from 10 to 7 or vista to xp or even 8 to longhorn or whistler or 98
You can't.
If you upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10, you would have an option to downgrade to Windows 7 (or, in fact, restore). Unfortunately, it only gave you ten days, and after that you could not downgrade again.
I had a situation like that once. My laptop couldn't boot up Windows 7 and when it tried, it showed me the BSOD. So we had to install either 10 or 8. I picked 10. And guess what, it works well, but slowly due to it's age (it's 11 years old). But it was installed from scratch, so all old files were gone. Luckily, there was nothing important.
Microsoft offers an option for people that upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8.1 to downgrade. Same goes with people that upgraded to Windows 11 from Windows 10. But, you only have 10 days to do this process if you want to. After 10 days, that option will be removed.
7 , VISTA , XP , OLDER impossible they are not supported

@@toslaw9615 If you didn't know this option existed you could be losing a lot of space.

@@idontknow4469 what if someone doesn't know about extending the time? It's even worse because they won't be able to go back later.

There is a huge gap between batch in Windows 9x and Windows NT. Mostly because 9x is DOS based.

And for the first time, Microsoft can truly say "Nobody used this product, I dont know why our XP cooperative added it."
Would be intresting to see if windows could be glitched out to show this when there wasnt another os so it just deletes itself and makes the pc have no os
I don't know why people are complaining about today's downgrade possibilities.
10 Days are enough. Why should the files of the old system stay longer on your device?
well what if you wanted to downgrade after the 10 days also why can't we choose to keep the old files?
What if you run into a hardware problem 2 weeks after you upgrade and you need to revert to a previous version to fix it? OH WAIT you can’t. And that’s why you need 30 days as an absolute minimum.

Is this mean if we continue uninstall it’s will downgrade to the lower version right?
Yes

I would never do that.
What happens if you press F6 to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver?
Same as Windows XP Setup... although it uses a black background rather than a blue background.
What happens when you cancel the Uninstallation process? (if you even can?)
It either tries to do it again or it bascially boots you into the version of Windows you installed before the downgrade occurred.
Another tip: What if you do remove the backup of this previous operating system?
there will be no system to install, the hardware will not run anything if there is no system. My computer have no backup of windows 7 (the previous system I upgrade to windows 10), so I cannot uninstall it. But, it will be impossible to do this if there is no backup I think.
If you remove the backup of the previous operating system, Windows basically removes the previous operating you installed, thus making it impossible to downgrade back to the previous version of Windows even if you wanted to.
