Wild Beehive in a Washing Machine

- This washing machine had been repurposed and was being used as a compost bin...until bees decided to move in and build a hive there! The homeowner had lifted the lid open a few days before and was stung, so I was called to give these sweet bees a new place to live.
This woman is amazing! If ppl treated each other the way she treated bees, can you imagine the world we'd live in!?
Y3
do people treat u badly, doesit make u sad :(((
Love the fact that the homeowner was caring enough to call a beekeeper to save the bees
As opposed to what, taking a flamethrower to it? Lol. There’s no way a homeowner can deal with 50,000 bees, even if they didn’t care about saving them. (But like you, I’m glad they were saved)
@@HoyaSaxaSD THINK first before spouting...duh..pesticides use
@@DEBrown1971yes, think, Deb. No random homeowner is lifting that lid and sitting there while trying to spray 50,000 bees to death, while probably getting stung to death first. Didn’t you hear that the homeowner called this chica because he was stung as soon as he lifted the lid?
Deb, Deb, anyone home??
@@HoyaSaxaSD duh...smoking them first to calm them down to stupor and then spray
As a beekeeper who has done over 100 bee removals I want to say that this is an exceptional removable and a first class lesson. Your thorough, clear explanations and meticulous work is to be respected immensely. And your gentle demeanor is an inspiration. I’m sure the bees feel your good will for them.
We all do things differently and if I left the bees as you did, I’d return after sundown so as to get all the bees into the hive and leave none behind. I would love to do that on all my removals. But most often, we don’t have that luxury and must leave when we are done removing the bulk of the bees and all the hive products. I use a bee vacuum to help with that.
I’m excited to take a look at your other videos!
@@dirtydragon9
Spray Bee Quick into the void left from the removal. Stuff some insulation into it. Put all the brood AND bees you removed, in a hive setup close to the original bee entrance. All the returning bees will come back to this setup. Brood will attract them and make them stay. (The only home they now know) You return after nightfall when everyone is home, seal the hive for transport and take them home.
I’ve mentioned this to clients sometimes, that a return trip would add to their cost.
I’m new to this do y’all not get stung?
I am amazed they don't sting when you start pulling apart the hive.
@@methos1592 every hive is different, but a lot of times with honey bees theyre pretty docile. As long as they dont think youll hurt them they just kinda let you hang out around them with no issue. Wasps are a whole different issue though
Her practices are questionable. Hair not tied properly back. Wearing dark clothes. No proper safeguards.
I love your gentle, do-no-harm approach to the bees and your genuine concern for their welfare. Please up the good work.
This young lady is amazing ! She is so professional. I love her explaining all her steps so interesting!
Relieved you didn't stop making videos! Your videos have helped me in my fear of bees.
Yeah keep goin'
Me too -- I'm surprising zen around bees now (though maybe not if one was indoors with me)
same!
Seeing that they are not mindlessly crazed stinging machines is very reassuring.
BOO
You're amazing. Clearly the bees love you and they sense your energy and that you're helping them. No protection? No need. No fear. No stings.
Makes sense to me.
Thanks for doing what you do! It's fantastic. Love your ASMR style vids. Very peaceful and informative.
You should make a video of dealing with a more aggressive hive. It would be nice to see the other tactics/strategies you use in these cases.
Look back through her posted videos, I think she has had to ware a suit in a few.
Her calm demeanor and love of the bees keep them calm.
Or get stung 😆 🤣
@@alicemcpherson7961 I don’t get it though…she’s clearly invading and dismantling their home. How do they not see that a threat?
@@servantofobedience9546 Bees release an alarm pheromone when threatened, but the smoke disrupts their ability to communicate through those pheromones. Your methodology is the very best of all of the beekeepers I've seen on YT. I simply cannot conceive anyone complaining about the calm, gentle way you treat the bees. Please continue to film your passion of saving the bees and sharing with us as often as you can.

truth
She narrates with the same calm energy she exudes when working with the bees. Some colonies are just chill and when you're deliberate and calm like she was, you can work without the bees getting testy.
FWIW, I was out mowing and decided to pop open my split. I saw that wax moths had infested it (it was a temporary box, small colony and not very well ventilated). I set about mitigating the problem, squashing and sweeping out caterpillars and excising/removing affected frames. I replaced the removed frames with new ones. The point? I didn't have time to fire up my smoker or get on any gear. They let me work without bothering me even though it was a disruptive, even violent event for them.
She knows what she's doing and as she said, she would have geared up had she needed to.

I'm sorry for some of the nasty things I've seen on social media and UA-cam lately complaining about your methodology. Although I'd recommend a disclaimer advising folks to wear a veil for eye protection, I've seen nobody attack JPBeeman or some of the male cut out gurus for not wearing a veil. I feel like you're being singled out and I really enjoy the peaceful filming nature of your cut outs.
definitely seems rooted in misogyny, like a woman can't possibly do something without a man doing the work behind the scenes, or someone can't be pretty/blonde and also work with bees. Awful to read, and to see so many people believing the lies and calling her a fake. :(
I had seen a comment on one of her older videos saying "I know a man is doing the hard work for you" and I was like wtf... really sad to hear that she's been getting a lot of that rather than just that one isolated comment. It's obvious she knows what she's doing, I don't know why people have to be such jerks.
@@castorj.b.1257 I usually disregard arguments about misogyny, but this really does seem to be the case here. Everyone that complains about her insists that she's just a pretty face to generate views and that a man does all the real work. Rage inducing tbh.
@@castorj.b.1257 Just envy. Women are sometimes their own worst enemies. There is a thing of competition, and when some other woman looks "better" than them, they want to attach and mimic, but with the bees is not that simple, so they want to "put her down"..... So not misogyny, just plain envy.
The point those people were making is that she should be wearing a veil bacause of her long hair as bees can get stuck into it, panic, and sting. Which a male beekeeper might not have issue with.
I've always been afraid of 🐝 bees until I started watching your videos. Thank you SO MUCH for educating me!! I Love learning about the different jobs they have and how they all work in harmony for the betterment of the hive! If humans acted more like 🐝 bees, we wouldn't be so confused and destructive. Anyway, thank you for All you do!
I used to be too (Though legitimately - when you're 7 years old and your stepfather chops into a beehive in a tree trunk he didn't know was there and you get stung a millimeter away from your eye, you get nervous). But now that I think about it, I don't know if it was bees, wasps or what. But after moving down south, and having a neighbor who kept bees, I got more used to them. Then after watching so many beehives/honey videos, the fear slowly subsided. We keep a safe distance from eachother, unless one of them accidentally drops into the pool, then I fish them out to let them live. I've not been stung once in 15 years. (the horseflies that frequent my parents' backyard when I visit however need to go die)
@@aalikane6219 I love your comment. :)
Your beautifully narrated videos will help make for a new generation of bee-whisperers. God bless you, Ms Bee Angel!

It is as if the bees sense you are there to help them. If anyone else went near a hive, they would get stung for sure. You are so gentle with them, and honestly I could listen to you for hours because you have a soft soothing voice. Another great video, thank you 😇❤
This hive is a absolute masterpiece, the combination of curves in a straight corner is just a wonder of nature.
RIGHT!?! I’m gonna have to do some architecture inspiration sketches of that for stories and such. That is goegeous!!!
I can't stop cringing because of my intense fears of bees, but damn the respect I have for her is immense
I had an intense, crippling fear of bees for many, many years. It was totally irrational, I’ve never even been stung by a bee. So, last year when a small group of solitary leafcutter bees made their home in my garden, I was totally pissed. 😂 No one would come rescue them because they’re not super useful, apparently…and I was basically given instructions on how to kill them. Well, first do no harm….I take that very seriously. So, now I have upwards of 150 leafcutter bees living in my garden (which has never been healthier) and every day I interact with them, water & feed them, and I’m totally over my fear of bees. My little nieces love to come over and watch them, too. And, I’ve still never been stung.
These videos have been so helpful. Even though my bees don’t have a hive, and work individually of one another, I look at them like they’re all queens. It’s stupid how much I love them. 😂🤣
Perhaps you could contact someone who can give you some exposure therapy. I had a pretty bad fear for a long time but I started to let it go in. My 30s I’m in my 50s now. I forced myself to just watch them on the flowers, in the yard , and then began to get closer and closer and my fear subsided. Now I enjoy photographing them on flowers. Honestly, they have no I’ll will, they don’t want to sting, they just want to go about their business. And along the way, I overcame my fear of yellow jackets and wasps, although I give them more space. If you’re allergic, then just disregard everything I said. I’d be afraid too. And I’ve been stung several times in my rather long life, and guess what? I survived! There is a product you can buy, I think it’s called Sting stop, that you can put on sting and I guess the pain stops right away. They won’t sting unless they have to. I stepped on two at different times in my life, and I got stung. And the other time there was a bee on a door handle I didn’t see, and he stung me because I put my hand over her.
Your voice is so soothing, and it's always amazing seeing how casually you do all that work without any fear of being stung. I can't believe there are people actually saying negative things about the work that you do.
Is it really soothing I hadn't heard that before are you the first one to say that?
They are jealous...

The respect and care you show these bees give me hope for humanity
I’m 80…i did not need any gear… my scent was calm. You are doing very well. Love your work and education
I've watched many videos to learn about beekeeping, but this lady is the first person to make me think, "That's the kind of beekeeper I would like to be" instead of simply, "That's good information." I'd love to learn beekeeping just by going around with her and imitating what she does, how she does it. She's a natural with bees, and I'm not sure that can be learned (I was scared of insects as a child, thanks to my brothers teasing me by putting creepy crawlies on me). Maybe I can't be as naturally attuned to insects as she is, but I could learn to imitate her calm and respectful movements with bees. I feel calm just watching her videos - calm and even more eager to have a place to keep bees. Wonderful videos.
Fearless and so gentle with the bees. Outstanding !
What I love most of all is they way you respect the bees, take your time whilst being careful, and to "think like a bee". If more people had this mindset toward our fellow creatures, the world would be a far better place for all.
If possible, could you do a Bee Yard tour? I would love to see all the hives full of happy bees you’ve saved!!! 💛💛🐝

Hello Erika, you are so amazing to watch, very graceful with the Bees. I appreciate the way you show that PPE is not always needed as the temperament of the Bee hive can be easily assessed by someone with experience. I am a Bee keeper myself from the South island of New Zealand. I am currently wintering down and have lost no hives this past season. Statistics here in New Zealand show a 10% hive failure rate due to CCD and/or PMS. We do not use antibiotics here. Currently it is advised to treat for Varroa twice per year alternating chemical classes each time. I use Apivar and Bayvarol. We are starting to see resistance to Bayvarol which is not a good sign. The main three devastating diseases/syndromes we face here are of course the Varroa mite, AFB (American Foul Brood) and Nosema. There are of course more like chalk and sack brood etc, but those are the big three. Keep making Bee Keeping look so good!!
I absolutely love the work you do to save the bees! You’ve taught us all so much! Bless you for what you do!💕
Young lady, you are an incredible person. Keep on being you. Dont let these window licking mouth breathers get you down. These type of people are the reason an "external use only" warning label has to be put on hemorrhoid medicine.
She says the bees will fill up the frames quickly. I would love to see those frames from relocated colonies filmed at removal, a week later, a month later, etc to see how the colony progresses
I would love to see a follow up of one of the moved hives. I always wonder what one of these moved colonies' hive looks like after a month or two. Would also love to see a tour of the apiary.

why is watching your videos such a soothing experience? I got you playing in the background while i'm working and i'm just like "heck yeah bee chick, you save those bees!"
I enjoy seeing your bee videos when I first wake up each day. I've learned so much since watching your videos, and I thought I already knew a lot about bees! Seeing you "scoop" the bees is my favorite part.
When my kids were young, I taught them how to catch bumblebees and release them. They saw me "pet" the bees with my bare fingers, and word quickly spread among their friends at school!
I've been stung plenty of times, but I am not allergic, and each time I was stung it was because the bees feared being harmed.... mostly by getting trapped accidentally in my clothing!
Anyway, I wanted to let you know that this 60 year old woman in Alabama really is a big fan, and as always, I look forward to you saying, "....and it was another great day of saving the bees!"
You’re doing such an amazing work, people have no idea how important bees are to our resources… ❤
Just beautiful to watch you handling these majestic creatures (insects.) I have a very fond heart for honeybees as should every human being. They make our lives so much more possible. From a very young age, I was taught that bees are our friends whilst wasp more than likely not. I taught this to my own children and grandchildren.
How admire you. Apparently you’ve been doing this for a long time n you know what to do n if there’s aggressive bees then again you’ll know what to. You have gentleness about you n the bees can feel that. I was amazed at how large this hive was. Yet you managed to get most of the bees also knowing the queen was in the hive. Speaking of queen bee I spotted her right away. I’m impressed with myself that I did.
Always enjoy your videos.

Her critics are not uneducated....They are more honest....They understand the dangers and don't want people (More) people to die....
@@randizimoI mean, they really are. She knows what she is doing, and if she felt that a hive was too aggressive she would be taking extra steps to protect herself. I see a lot of the complaints, like the dark clothes, are based off of old beliefs that have been disproven a long time ago.
@@AccidentallyOnPurpose She never deals with "Aggressive" hives....Which is in my mind, dishonest....Maybe she did something before hand to calm the hive and just doesn't show it, which also seems dishonest....The reason MOST REAL bee handlers dislike her videos is because it will lead the public to misjudge the potential dangers, and do what they see her doing....
