  • Now that you've mastered alternate picking, it's time to speed things up a bit with one of our favorite techniques-tremolo picking.
That's right, tremolo is more than just an effect pedal, it's a technique too! Crazy, right?
Thanks to Eddie Haddad from Guitar Mastery Method for working with us on this project. If you want to go deeper after you make it through our 30 Day Guitar Challenge, you can check them out here: guitarmasterymethod.com/

I'm usually more focused on the technique being shown than the gear, but I have to say that that is an incredible looking guitar

I have a really hard time moving my wrist that fast, where it's much easier to move from my elbow and leave the wrist more stationary. Will that be a problem down the road?

I was thinking the exact same. I noticed that when I only have my right hand pinky against the pickguard to stabilize my hand, then it makes me use my elbow to tremolo pick. But when I put the meat of my palm down against the bridge, then I no longer need to use my elbow and it feels more natural to use the wrist. Hopefully that makes sense. Just lay the meat of your hand against the bridge, but farther back so you don't palm mute, and then use your wrist.

@@jon.wilson Yeah, that works great! Gonna need to build up stamina in the wrist, as it seems to get fatigued faster than using the elbow. That also helps me in regular playing. I got in to the habit of planting my pinky and that's just limiting, but "palm on bridge" (kinda like Day 9's lesson) seems to provide better movement. thx!

The problem with leading with your forearm is that you build up tension with that movement. I picked that way for years but I realized I had limited energy and could only play faster for a short time.
Leading with the wrist helps to get you more in the relaxed state when tremolo picking, which conserves energy. I know it’s easier said than done, but it’s worth it to start slow and get the hang of picking that way until it becomes a habit. Hope that helps!
