I just discovered this video today. Thanks for the information! I've downloaded Richard's script and will install it when I decide to install Genesis 9. I appreciate your other Daz Studio videos as well.
You're welcome Joe - but just for information sakes .. the script here does still work but it's probably been superseded by an App on the Daz store that probably does it better and without the need for a G8 model in scene .. tinyurl.com/nhczjnuu However, as a free option, this way and this script works fine ..
Downloaded and added this script to my installation. Awesome! The only Gen 9 I have right now is the Toons but this script works fantastic. Gets all the basics transfered and I only have to make a few minor tweaks. Great time saver. Thank you so much for the script and for this tutorial. Really enjoying going through your videos.
I won't take credit for the script - things like that are beyond me .. will reserve praise on that score for "RichardAndTracy" over on the Daz forums .. but happy to point you towards it and glad it's helping you out.
Thanks Rauko, you're always informative (and also great). One question: After you transfer the pose, can you save the transferred pose as a functioning preset pose for Genesis 9?
Thanks, Rauko. You're the best there is. This is a must do for my list. Now if only I can get it properly installed in my jacked up file/folder structure. As an aside, the only real issue I've had with clothing is items with buttons designed to parent/child was G8 bones.
Awww shucks .. 😀 .. as for "jacked up file / folder structures" .. that's why I had to create a separate "Daz Tutorials" section on another drive just so I can find things in good order when doing videos .. If i didn't .. the videos would take 3x longer to make and would be 2x longer to watch!
For anybody watching this I just figured out you could do it yourself you could convert G8 animation into a genesis 9 by doing it frame by frame it's more work than usual but it's way less work than animating by hand
Thanks Malcolm - yeah, the Gen 3 / 8 to 9 converter has now superseded the script in theis video - but, it's still handy for those who don't want to spend the pennies!
Hey there .. There's no HDRI in this scene .. just a couple of spotlights .. the actual background is a stage from www.daz3d.com/li-incandescent--portrait-lighting-for-iray
I noticed you have selected "hip" for G9, as you said in the vid, but then, for G8.1F, you said to do the same thing, but you have choosed simply "Genesis 8.1 female" and not "hip" (as written in the script). May I know why? Thanks
Overall it's been more compatible than I was expecting, but I still haven't figured out a way to get a pair of heels to work right and there were no G9 heels available on the marketplace the last I checked.
Long dresses and trousers stuggle at times .. and feet / shoes were always a problem from G3 to G8 too .. so it just looks like things are continuing as they did in the past!
It's a nice, work around for now... personally im just not feeling genesis 9.. i probably should have waited for a big sale before the purchase of it. Don't get me wrong, yeah it's hd, and yea nicely made, but i think i would have preferred them working on a better daz update, with a UI I can read on a 4 k monitor for some reason i'd feel that was more valuable, but also my go to creators are basically Mousso and isourcetextures, as they look real. i did buy the zev0 child morph from the daz store... LOL can i get my money back. Great video as always man. keep em coming!
If there's more compatibility then there will be a bigger take up of Gen 9 .. which will cause the PAs to create more stuff .. and the snowball will roll down the hill and in a year or so, Gen 9 will be used as much as Gen 8 is now and previous Gens were in the past. So this little script helps in that regard. I do think Daz have dropped the ball somewhat .. they should have had a bunch of PAs with character models ready to go .. if not on launch day (as they'd want people to buy Vicki 9) but definitely the day afterwards .. So far we've had 2 more character models drop in what? 4 or 5 days? They should have had 2 a day at least ready to roll out .. let people see what Gen 9 can really do over Gen 8 .. but we don't know .. Vicki 9, being their flagshop model, was always going to be good .. but we have no idea what the average Gen 9 is going to deliver and so a number of people are still sitting with that "let's wait and see" attitude ..
I've never tried it with expressions in truth .. however, my instinct would say no .. I think this script just transfers the bone positions and not morph sliders which make up the expressions.
Hey there - sorry, I can't. If it's been put in the right folder then it should be there .. there's no reason why it wouldn't show up .. Just make sure you're only putting the "Script" folder into your content library and NOT the top level content folder .. Ahhh .. hold on .. inside the script folder is another folder called "ChestnutP" .. the script files are in THAT folder .. so look for that! Let me know if that's it!
It worked when I used the ChestnutP folder, but I also found a little work around where I had both models loaded and then I just double clicked on the .dsa script in my regular finder and the option to select the hips appeared in Daz Studio@@RaukoDaz3D
Nice sprict. But is there any way to copy a pose from gen8 to gen9 while making the two bodies exactly identical in height, arm lenght etc? Gen9 has different proportions and is about a head smaller than gen8 :( Id need my gen8 pose that i made for using it in Skyrim for personal use copied as is, arms and other parts should be exactly on top the gen8 body. I saw that there is a g8 clone under hidden, but it doesnt work with the script, hands get all messed up
I'd think that would be a little difficult to do .. but then, I don't write scripts so I probably wouldn't know. Your best bet would be to ask on the forum thread that's linked in the description of this video.
The script no longer works? I've not used this solution for a while as there's an actual product available on the Daz store which I use now .. but I'll check it out
