Anytime I think of AAA games all I think of is “this gonna be baller” or “til his game gonna suck🥜” ngl

“AAA games” in current context usually spells out that it’s going to be an expensive blockbuster but will have the gross aspects plaguing games today hence why the thought of is already dead on arrival
It’s why I like Nintendo so much when they’re the closest to reaching B tier games like the 2000s unlike other big devs where it either has to be something independent on your phone or a $100 million project with a cinematic score, epic cutscenes etc

Fr. Nintendo themselves have proved that they don't need to spend millions to make a good game

I totally agree. I wish as a whole they still incorporated these types of games that are inspired by previous generations games designs. They shouldn't take as long to make, not cost so much $, easier to put focused passion into a smaller focused project, especially with today's technological capabilities. Previous games should still inspire some games no matter how far into the future we go. We shouldn't leave those unique game designs in the past. We should incorporate them as we go.
i really miss the direct approach how PS2 games were made. Idk why there isn't a niche between indie & triple A games to fill this void? (Hi-Fi rush is a good example i can think of) Just because certain things have advanced & huge corps have insane $ shouldn't mean we can't get games that mirror the PS2 era & similar older game designs. Games that get right to the point, focus on doing what they want really well because they aren't trying to create huge open worlds. I'd love to see the creative projects that could be made today that use inspiration from previous game generations. Anytime i say this someone just comments "well we have indie games" but that's besides the point.

Reminds me of Cortex’s “Fish?” line from Crash Twinsanity. That scene even relates to big game budgets with its 4th wall breaking business conversation.

Games are NOT getting more expensive. Publishers are making them expensive because they put insane amount of money on MARKETING, because they want to make sure their game sells in this ocean of games. Developers don't take even the half of that budget. Indies are ruining those big studios and I love it.

This is half truth. Games take longer to make = more money spent. On top of this there are marketing budgets.
The problem is no one seems to be asking the right questions. The most important of them is what makes game successful? And industry should look at smaller games which can have 4:1 ratio if it comes to income:cost.
