I have to replace two lower control arms on our 2014 jeep patriot, and I truly appreciate your video. It will help when I start on the repair. Keep up the good work. And just an FYI, I really respect that you didn't make the job seem like it would be a walk in the park. This is how these videos should be, true to life. Well done.
Thanks for the feedback. I always try to put tue pitfalls and tips into my videos because things don’t always go smoothly. It’s annoying when they make things look so easy when it’s really not.
Seems like the stock part is not sturdy enough. This happened in a parking lot split wasn’t at a high speed. We still don’t understand how it buckled like that. Good luck on your repair.
@@OmarsGarageyou upgrade that control arm to the one that is made for the Trail Rated model. It has three cross bars welded in for xtra support and strength. They are supposed to be interchangeable.
Thankyou you made it very easy to understand and follow the steps to repair this part. My 2011 keep patriot has this problem and now I know the correct way to fix it
Just a tip for anyone watching: To get that ball joint out easy, drive a thick chisel through the gap where the pinch bolt goes. You may have to go in at an angle to wedge it in there good enough. After that, the ball joint stud should fall right out with a couple of love taps. No swearing or knuckle busting needed,
Thanks for this. My 2011 patriots control arm completely broke off my front tire today. I didnt know and tried to pull out of my driveway. Tore up the gravel pretty bad, obviously I only made it about 20 feet before i stopped. I don't have a garage and its snowing so this will be fun.
@@OmarsGarage hmmm. Interesting. Did the part last a long time? All of our local stores this one is 200. We're getting it from Napa tomorrow. Freaking axle is loose too. Its a mess lol tire was so bad they couldn't get it on the tow truck afraid it would break completely off.
Are you referring to my comfortable floor mat? I still have that in my garage. One day I will splurge on a floor creeper, maybe start using my Patreon for it 🤔😆.
That lower balljoint is a real pain to get out. I gave up after pounding on mine for an hour, stood up to walk away and it fell out when I wasn't touching it.
Ride On Omar 🖒...... I'm originally from Manhattan., but live in the Bronx..... I'm presently am having the bushings on my ride replaced...... The squeaky sounds on the rear is really horrible...... Listen..... You have a new bro here in the BIG🍎APPLE...... Be safe, and thanks again...... 🖒
Was there any damage to the cv axle or anything else tie rod ,sway bar? I was in a wreck and my control arm as bent just like that and I'm scared other things were bent too.
Nothing else was damaged….this was a pretty low speed accident where she hit the curb in a parking lot. After this I took it to get an alignment and everything was checked out and dialed in.
From what I remember it was the last thing to go in, but I still hadn’t tightened the other two nuts. Once the knuckle went in I tightened everything else.
Bob Dawber probably took me about an hour but most of that was because I had a hard time getting the knuckle out. Next time around I think it can be done in 30 minutes.
I just did the same job, on the same vehicle. Brother, removing that ball joint was NO JOKE!
It truly tested my patience. I’m sure there’s a special tool but for something I will only have to do probably once, it’s not worth it.
She hit that curb HARD, mine had to replaced from wear and tear from horrible hiways where I live. At 275,000 km’s

Thanks! We were about to give up on repairing it ourselves after over an hour of trying to get that ball joint out but we got it with the mallet!
It was a pain in the butt to get mine out. I had to take a break and regroup.
That’s crazy, I never got to check but this is my exact problem. This video helped a ton, now I’m not afraid it’s gonna cost a fortune to fix

That’s what it’s all about. Hopefully you can get it fixed quickly, easily, and cheaply.

you dont have to pry the knuckle to get the arm off , just hit the top of the control arm mith a mallet
I think I mentioned it in the video since I didn’t get a chance to video it. Need both hands to smack that heck out of that control arm 😂
Great job
Thanks!
Thanks for the video brother! Very helpful.
Thanks for the feedback, please remember to like and subscribe 👍
bro next time put a bar in the control arm hole from the top use downward pressure and smack the side of the ball joint
bill s thanks for the tip! It was a pita to get out.
Where did you you find the new bolt for the lower control arm ball joint? That was a new shiny bolt.
Cordell Ervin the bolt came with the kit as far as I remember. It’s a different sized bolt than the original.
Ok thanks. I see some replacment bolts on carid.com.

Dude your awesome how long did it take
It took me a while as I had a hard time removing the old control arm but it should not take you more than an hour.
Are you in Houston?
I’m in the Washington DC area.
Was the knuckle the last part you put into place?
From what I remember it was the last thing to go in, but I still hadn’t tightened the other two nuts. Once the knuckle went in I tightened everything else.
hi, I have a question. how many lower control arms in a jeep patriot. thank you.
You mean the price or how many the Patriot has?
4 front and rear@@OmarsGarage
2 front 2 rear not including upper
How long did it take in total?
Bob Dawber probably took me about an hour but most of that was because I had a hard time getting the knuckle out. Next time around I think it can be done in 30 minutes.
Are these the same on a renegade??
These are the same for the Jeep Compass and Dodge Caliber but I don’t think they will fit a renegade. The procedure should be similar though.
Thanks for the video
