The idea behind my statement is that when you study the craft of debate and argument, it is often a good idea to take the argument being shoved in your face and INVERT IT. Or, if you prefer, turn it upside down. So, when a police officer says “ I think that you filming a police station is suspicious ”
What you do, is a two step process. Firstly you say,
“ well setting aside the obvious fact that filming a police station is a perfectly legal activity, as there is no law against it, what precisely do you find suspicious about me filming a police station?”
At this point in the conversation the officer will waffle on with some unprepared statements in a desperate attempt to justify his or her position. Let them speak. Wait. And then take the following position in your reply.
“ OK Officer I understand why you find me filming a police station ( which is legal ) suspicious, but before I answer any more of your questions, can you describe to me as precisely as possible, how I can go about filming your police station ( which is a lawful act) in a way or manner which when observed by you, you DON’T find suspicious.
Because, I suspect that from your point of view there is NO way whatsoever, for a person to film your police station, which, once again I remind you is a perfectly legal and lawful activity, without you finding a reason to feel that their action is suspicious. In other words, my replies to your questions are worthless, as there is clearly nothing that I can say that will satisfy your mind, which is already set and decided upon a course of action.
“With that in mind I can see no point in indulging what amounts to an impromptu roadside interrogation of a citizen who has broken no laws and will now remain silence as is my right.”
Because, no matter how suspicious your tiny little mind feels, you will not find anything in the statute books which describes me standing here, on a pavement pointing my camera in any direction that I so choose, as illegal.
So, by all means arrest me, as that will guarantee that my lawyer gets the chance to cross examine you in an open court which I promise will make you regret the day you let your ego get the better of you resulting in a low point in your career from which few recover.
Are your handcuffs nice and comfy? If so then let’s roll the dice, get them out and let’s meet again at some future point with a jury of my peers and my barrister who enjoys taking police officer apart on the witness stand just as much as you enjoy the click of the cuffs you put on innocent people as often as you can.
The worst that can happen to me is a mild slap in the wrist, But the risk of damage to your career is much higher. Especially as the UA-cam video of you, making a complete fool of yourself and looking like a rank Amateur, will not only be on UA-cam but will remain there for all to see throughout the decades of your future career. As you grow old it will stay young. Like a ghost haunting you. So, yes, let’s roll the dice. I’m quite excited at the prospect.

Apparently all stations are very insecure (especially the stations with 100's of coppers inside) - I would hope they use the tax payers money to make them secure.

I mean, they're so annoying in their ignorance. Accusing you of winding them up, it's been clearly shown that cops get wound up by people performing legal activities and standing their ground. So basically, standing your ground, flexing your rights, is provoking to cops. Soon they'll try to arrest people for obeying the law too much.

Brilliant, I take my hat off to you…superb. In my view this is exactly what auditing is about. Politely, knowledgeable and firmly informing an officer of the law they cannot tell a citizen what to do because they don’t like what they are doing. It’s gone on too long. Bravo for this.
