How to remove stickers without damaging them (also works for labels & stamps)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 7 лют 2021
- My trick for removing stickers and labels using only a heat tool and scalpel knife. This is perfect for keeping all the pretty stickers and stamps from e.g. Etsy orders or pen pal envelopes. It's also useful if you want to remove labels so you can reuse packaging, mailers or cardboard without tearing, ripping or otherwise damaging them.
A heat tool is also sometimes called a heat gun or embossing gun. If you don't have a heat tool you could try a hair dryer.
Hope it's useful! If you enjoyed this please like, comment & subscribe ♥

For clarity, the postage-stamps in UK, as seen in the video, are self-adhesive. If you have a gummed (lick to stick) postage-stamp to remove, then steam from a kettle will get it off.
Great tip, thank you! I can also confirm that conversely, steam does not remove self-adhesive stamps/stickers.
@@iris-impressions-artthank you so much for that I have these beautiful boxes delivered and their logo is on the top which is really beautiful designed and they persist on putting the poster sticker over the top of it which is very frustrating when you want to reuse the box because of their because of their beauty 🐈 Australia
I have a dead laptop with some stickers that I adore, happy to see I can safely remove and reuse them. Thank you for this video!
Awesome! Glad it was helpful.
Dude same! 😍
This is literally why I am looking this up 😂
I just lost my kindle to a tragic bathing accident and want to be able to take the stickers off and put them on my new one… fingers crossed they can be saved!
@@emidal05same 😭 was so sad bc i didnt wanna get rid of them 😞 huzzah!
I know this video is a year old but thank you for helping me save my stickers! I had some sentimental stickers on a laptop and wanted to transfer them and this worked perfectly!
This was actually incredibly useful! I bought a piece of test equipment and the shell was gross! I was able to get most of the ugly stickers off, but I wanted to keep the front cover decal safe, and this was great!
This was super helpful. I make lamps out of whisky bottles and I need to drill a hold in the glass. But I need to use water while drilling in glass so it always ruins the sticker. Now I remove the sticker, drill the hole and glue the sticker back on with a clean cut hole in the sticker. They look much nicer now. Thanks!
I’m so glad i found this. I wanted to transfer my stickers to a laptop case (imma use glue or resin to stick them on) and this is so helpful. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. I inherited an old filing cabinet from my uncle and it's covered in stickers he added over time but the cabinet needs restoration. So, I'm glad I can preserve the stickers now.
I’m so glad I can take the stickers off my old laptop to put on my new one! Thank you so much! ❤
I needed to remove a sticker from my modem to open it and clean it without my ISP knowing 😅. This worked like a charm. Thanks a lot
Thank you sooooooooo much! I have several hundred 70's, 80's and 90's horror paperbacks that have all kinds of stickers on them - this is perfect to clean them all up!!!!
Thank you, this helps. I have a vintage RC car which is in great condition, but I need to open it to fix a problem. Of course there's a sticker over the last screw, which I don't want to damage. Actually I'll need to figure out how to stick it on again :)
Thank you for this! I want to take the beautifully designed labels off some beer cans and bottles I've been saving up over the years and I think this will work perfectly.
Thank you so much! This helped! I had a Pokémon blue label that was worn and I had to peel the other sticker off the newer cartridge that had a better looking one. I used a heated blow dryer and my finger nail and it peeled off like magic. Thanks!
lol i was trying to do something similar, i wanted to take off the original gameboy advance sp sticker off to put it on a new shell
Thank you for the quick and simple explanation!
Wonderful tip. This helped me out immensely.
Great tips! Thank you Iris!
You are so welcome!
Thanks , Iris great tip have to try this.
You’re welcome 😊
Votre technique fonctionne à la perfection. Merci!
Thanks for the tips. Question: I have an old electronic toy from the late 70s / early 80s called Big Trak. There is a decal on it that covers screws that I need to remove to possibly service the toy for repair. I don’t want to damage the decal, of course, or burn it with the heat gun. Do you have any suggestions?
I’m a graphic artist by trade and I’m no stranger to different adhesives including spray adhesives. Once I go to put the decal back on, what adhesive would you suggest? I have a couple in mind, but I’m thinking perhaps you may have some different insights than I may have and I’d like your suggestions. Thanks!😀
Can I reuse the stickers after removing them would love to keep the stickers I have now on my old cup to put them on my new cup
I'm hoping that this will help me get a pretty big price sticker off a collector's edition (box is paper) of a game I bought... thanks for the tips! I'm going to give it a try.
If I want to move stickers around on my still working laptop, would this be the way to go about it? How much heat is safe for a working laptop
Love your style! Wonderfull
vid
Does this work on a plastic bottle?
Is a hair dryer good enough for a heating tool? I have a Japanese collector's edition of a game that is really expensive and the seller put a big sticker in the corner 🤦♂and I would really like to get it off without damaging the box.
Thanks for sharing this tip it's very useful!
Glad it was helpful!
This is a BIG little trick! Thank you!
Yay I'm so glad it was helpful!
Would this work on helmets? And also do the stickers still stick to other surfaces?
fantastic. my problem though is it's on my laptop and i wouldn't want to blowdry it
Will this method work on a plastic surface?
Wow Iris why haven't I thought of this really cool idea. I use a hairdryer for drying art journalling stuff so have never invested in a heat tool. I'm sure we have a tool for burning off paint hidden somewhere in the dark recesses of the garage. What I'm asking is the heat tool fiercely hot or more of a gentle heat?
Much more gentle....try with your hairdryer
@@eileenhildreth8355 Thanks I'll go with the hairdryer.. I didn't want to burn the house down in an attempt to remove the stickers.
Yes that's right what Eileen says. The tool I'm talking about is a craft/hobby tool with a gentle heat setting (mine has 2 settings, one very hot for embossing, the other less hot - which I use for drying and sticker removal) rather than a hardware tool!
thank you
I would suggest using a Scotty Peeler in place of the knife.
Genius! Thank you!
THANK YOU SM THIS WAS SO HELPFUL
I have a speaker which has a sticker on it a huge one but it is not pasted properly i mema not leveled i want to take it off and paste properly what should i do?
Thank you ma’am. You saved me today.
hello is a powerful hair dryer sufficient?
Awesome! THANK YOU!!
Will this work if the sticker was placed on a plastic container?
Briljant tip for this boxcollector 😁
Glad it was helpful!
This was really helpful! Thank you!
can anyone attest to how well this works with a hair dryer instead of a heat tool?
Thanks!
Wow - thanks for the tip 👍👏
Glad it was helpful!
can i ask something? can i use an iron as the heat tool?
I guess you could, but you risk damaging the sticker/label. If it's attached to paper you could iron the back.
Great tip, thank you! Love your earrings ;)
Thank you so much 😊🌈
by any chance, do you know if this will work with stickers on a painted wall? very informative video, thank you!!!
I haven't tried it myself, but I don't see why not. You're using the heat to soften/liquify the glue from the stickers so they become easy to peel off. Just be careful to heat it gently and gradually so you don't damage the paint on the wall.
Great tip
Glad you liked it!
I need to remove a label from a glass bottle so that I can scan the label it and reproduce it for a 3D model.
Hey thanks you! Does this work with really old labels? I'm trying to remove the art from 8tracks
I think it depends on the glue used. This video relates to stickers, because on those the adhesive melts when heated. I couldn't be sure the same would apply for labels on commercial products.
This was so helpful
Glad it was helpful to you Petra!
Brilliant!
Thank you!
Would this work with a hair dryer ?
Yes
THANK YOU. I wanted to save all the cute stickers from packages from artists
Yay so glad it was useful to you, that was exactly my motivation too for finding this technique!
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
Can I reuse the label? Does it remain sticky?
Usually yes, but not as sticky as it was before. I tend to use a glue stick to be sure.
Does this work on panini sticker albums?
Please have a look through previous comments. I believe someone tried this on a Panini sticker album and it didn't work for them.
thanks so much darling XX elsy
You are so welcome
Anyone knows if this works for a Panini sticker album? i have two, but with the stickers of one i can complete the other
EDIT: It doesnt work at all with Panini Albums.
How do you/did you remove panini stickers that are glued either on the top of the card ..or the full thin sticker in without damaging them?..do you have a technique?..or is it really impossible/ frustrating!..Thanks!
@@kevinkennedy8451 Ended using sabo remover. This works with with golden stickers from the Russia World Cup Album.
For normal stickers i havent found a good technique yet. Some come off with heat, others witha the help of an exacto knife, some others you have to do a mess and cut out the source album and then clean the overpaper with the exacto knife.
Do you have any tip you want to share?
@@michellefernandez3155 thanks for that info..its so difficult and I dont see anything online about it ..I havent found a really great way at all to be honest with modern stickers in Panini Books/Albums .However.. With stickers that are stuck in only at the top portion of the sticker...I have a decent success rate with...simply by soaking in water.....some come right off after 40-50 years unscathed ..some dont..which is quite frustrating.....then I actually use a blow dryer on various levels of heat and cold... when they are still a tad bit damp..I place them in a penny plastic sleeve...then right into a tight top loader....the top loader you can use your fingers to smooth the sticker or sticker card ( stickers with a heavier paper stock) out without damaging it.... sticker looks like it came out of the package new...I'm about 70% successful this way....0% with stickers that are totally glued in from top to bottom......:-) Going to try steaming them somehow or using boling water on the stove next ..trial and error..hope that helps some!
@@kevinkennedy8451 that was an awesome advice. :D I will try some thing the weekend in a FIFA 360 one i have lying around. (You know, the one with little stickers resembñling the Pogo Gum ones). If something comes from my experiments i will let you know. Kudos and have a good one!
What if the sticker is like 15 years old?
Should still work but you'd just have to be more careful prying it
Do the stickers still stick the same
