Paper is very easy to replace, people would just buy 100 bricks from LEGO and would create entire sets with paper from some Dunder Mifflin. People buy plastic bricks because these are sturdy, universal and you can't make them yourself, not with the precision LEGO can do it. Paper you just buy sheets and mold them as you see fit. Nobody is selling origami sets cuz one kid would just buy one, upload it on the internet and everyone could make it for free. You would go broke designing all these sets.

I like how the "bootleg" version (an off-the-shelf hole puncher) is MORE functional for this specific use case than the officially branded product.

Do you honestly think this is the first time anyone’s thought of using a normal hole punch? And please, keep ignoring the fact that Lego’s hole punch was based on a normal hole punch. I want to know if you actually believe that he is the first person to EVER think of this idea.
@@cwg73160 you two must be either children who know nothing about business, or adults who have strayed so far from their inner child they also have no knowledge of the kids toy business. This guy has done much more than just 'bring back the idea that was already made.' He actually created his own sets that were objectively more interesting and better than the official ones. Not only has he shown his own style of this type of building but he created new and exciting ways to use it beyond the set. The fashion thing and the nature blending into Lego hasn't really became popular, I myself have never seen it before, as there are nature Lego pieces. He's doing thing you wouldn't usually think of... He is created new ideas. In this day and age new ideas are extremely valuable for business and not only has he thought of them, he has made final products and prototypes as well and shown it to 11M people! He's actually already caused Lego to get more profit as now avyone who watched his video and wanted to try it will have brought more Lego and a new hole punch. A hanging chad- they’re actually an issue in paper ballot voting that utilizes hole punching because even if it’s fairly clear it was meant to be punched, if the chad is still partially attached (hanging chad) it isn’t counted

The creativity in coming up with this many different uses for this is honestly pretty impressive.

That said, they now have ALOT of views on their channels and probably made quite a bit with ads

if lego re-releases this, they should make it come with a two hole punch, that way you don't have to worry about lining up each individual hole

If anything comes in the way of my minifig fashion show I'll start another pandemic
if they re-release this, they should find a way to make it stud covered on one side so that you can stack bricks on them and mesure spaces between hole punches in # of brick. hell, this way, you could even stack stack several lego hole punchers together and punch many holes at once.

I wish I knew about this! I love origami and Lego so this would have been the perfect tool to integrate the two. I also love custom capes and the 6mm is a little too big in my opinion. Brillant idea to use leaves, and I really like all the creative ideas in this video!

As a kid, I did it. Suspended my tiny Lego wheels by rubber under a tiny car, to get fantastic suspension.
Google Flexo . . . Apparently done in partnership or something to with Lego company. Special Lego style blocks that can take flexible 'tendons'.
That was a really cool lego video. It must have taken ages to make and it was all class. The balance of comedy and technical waffle was sublime. The lady at the end needs to buck her ideas up mind. ❤

I had a hole punch growing up that had a clear window and you rotated a dial and it would make a heart or clover or triangle punch. Sounds like that's what would have made this product much better. But instead of different shapes, if the dial had different Lego shape hole punches. I hope that makes sense.

The obvious advance is the ability to punch out four holes at once.
The Crop-A-Dile is a hole punch with circles in 4 different sizes that you switch between by rotating the head. I could absolutely imagine something like that with 1×1, 2×1, 2×2, and the Technix + as options instead.

I found this video thinking that I'd be watching a short explanation of why the product failed.
Not only was that part of the video phenomenal, there was a provided solution as well as added ideas for much more varied applications that exceeded my expectations by literal light-years.
You could easily have sold this idea to Lego for a ton of money and yet here you are making it accessible to anyone with a hole punch and your stencil. Absolutely incredible!
Lego would probably pay for the idea so you couldn't share it then put it in a vault to never see the light of day. The problem is if people start extending their existing Lego sets with paper, cups and leaves then they won't need to buy the new $100 kits they put out each year. It breaks their business model.

I'd imagine that a eyelet grometting tool could be used to achieve a similar effect with fabric. That would open up a lot of possibilities as well. You probably wouldn't want to go all the way up to leather but being able to attach legos directly to your jeans certainly has potential.

Just a small shout-out to Legos partner in this, MUJI. They're great, especially for clothes, furniture, and school supplies. For people on the west coast I know they have at least one US store in Portland which is really nice, but you can also order their stuff online. At least in the tech scene I know subdued/minimal logos are popular and MUJI does no branding which is really nice.
They have a store in NYC, too. I haven't purchased, but I was checking out their website.
