James Blunt.. I was never a fan until I saw him live and I was converted..
I've considered having this played at my funeral so people realise that my life is as fulfilled at I wanted it.

I'm Jen. Thanks for your reactions to this and I Really Want You. I'm looking forward to seeing them posted, and I've sent a few more your way! FYI, as far as I know, James' mom is still alive. She definitely was at the time this was released. I'm not sure who the inspiration for this song was. Perhaps it was someone he served with - there is the line about trying to understand the sacrifice. James writes very personal songs, and he has said in interviews that he pretty much gives all the information he is willing to share in the song itself. He expresses emotional things in music because he isn't comfortable speaking about them, so (with a few exceptions) he usually doesn't explain his lyrics - he generally prefers to let listeners draw their own conclusions.
