    THANK YOU for this tutorial!! I wanted to make one of these so badly, and I watched two other videos to see how to do it, but I could not understand their instructions!! I thought I was the only one who couldn’t figure it out & felt so stupid because all of their comments were “thank you for this tutorial, I can’t wait to make one!!” Lol! But, I found your video & decided to try to figure it out one more time, and I’m so happy that I did because I understood perfectly what you were saying and showing, so now I am going tomorrow to get what I need to make my own. Guess I’m not completely hopeless after all!! Thank you so much for your easy to understand instructions and demonstration!! ♥️

      The Masquerade Just wanted to report that it was a smashing success! Turned out beautifully, and I love it. In case someone needs an idea for filler for the pincushion, I used sand from the Dollar Tree. It took approximately one and a half bags, more or less. Thank you again for your wonderful way of explaining the steps for this project; it’s greatly appreciated!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

      I know what you mean, some people don’t really know how to articulate what they want to say. This makes it very difficult to follow their instructions. I have seen several videos on how to make these, this is much easier to understand.

    Excellent tutorial. The little tips as you go along are really helpful, especially for filling the pincushion with the walnut shells.
    Instead of boning I am going to cut a spiral strip from a plastic yogurt tub.

      Great idea! Make sure it is long enough to overlap a couple inches, or the bag will just hang down instead of standing out.😉 sometimes I cut plastic strips from gallon milk jugs, too!

    Thankyou for the great tutorial. I wanted to make some hanging tubs to collect the endless sewing scraps and loose threads, I used the thin plastic strapping you get on new white goods instead of boning as that's what I had. I sewed long ribbons coming out of the hinge to hang the tub from a hook. I didn't make the pincushion but may in the future. I might make some hanging tubs with toiletries for gifts. Many thanks

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  Рік тому

      Great use of the tub! You can use the method to make them any size, and you can also cut your own "boning/strapping" from gallon plastic jugs. Recycle/reuse!😁

    Thank you for sharing your time and creativity to make this tutorial. Love your design - the addition of boning is genius! Ideas for something similar have been floating around in my head for a while and slowly coming together. Now, I can add my ideas to your design! I will make the top pincushion magnetic to hold my snip-eze curved blade embroidery scissors (fantastic for snipping threads - especially if you have arthritis), long tweezers, seam guide, errant pins, clips, zipper feet, machine needles and small paper cutting scissors (prevents that BAD thought of: "I know I shouldn't, but it can't hurt my expensive embroidery scissors to cut this paper/plastic/cellophane ONE time"). ☹ I plan to line my scrap bag with vinyl, hoping the threads will not cling as they will with fabric. Plus I am adding a zipper opening at the bottom to allow easy emptying w/o disturbing my tools/pins/clips at the top. This is about the third project on my mental sewing list, so it has time to refine a bit more. Thanks again for a great tutorial. -m

    Thank you for sharing this. I filled my pincushion with tiny gravel found in the fish aquarium section of the pet store. I rinsed and dried before using to remove any dust. Great weight, and I suspect that the gravel will keep my pins sharp.

      @TheMasquerade  2 роки тому

      Or dull them - keep us posted! I like the weight idea, though. Makes me wonder if crushed stone might be better. ( But I think that can only be purchased in 40 lb bags at the big box hardware store. LOL)

    I made a funnel using a 16 oz. soda bottle. After I drank my soda and rinsed the bottle, I cut of the bottle portion, leaving about 3" for the "bowl" part of the funnel. It has a wider opening than a paper funnel, so I made sure to leave the opening to my project big enough to fit the bottle's opening. The larger opening is also perfect for when I make bean bags. Thanks for this great tutorial!

    I made my own using rice and lavender instead of walnut power. It works just as well and is heavy enough to hold the bag.
    I was even able to put my big scissors in the bag and it held the weight.
    This is a lovely idea and I am more then pleased with the result!
    Very fun and simple for beginners! :)

    I made your thread catcher without the pincushion and put the hinge under my machine
    I love it, and I have to agree with others this is the clearest and easiest pattern to follow thank you so much for sharing it with us.

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  7 років тому +1

      I've done that as well to put under my serger. It holds more scrap than the "catch bucket" that came with the machine. You can make the hinge any size or shape to make it work for your particular machine. Thanks for sharing this idea!

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  6 років тому

      I've actually made one for one of my sergers that didn't come with a thread catcher! I just eliminated the pin cushion and attached a "no slip" pad to the hinge instead. The pad is just a piece of fabric with rubber shelving grip attached to the bottom and serged all the way around. It shouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to whip one up! ;)

    Dear Donna, I could not wait to make this Scrap Bag. I did view other tutorials and yours is the best. You may not notice but in the very beginning you have the hing and pin cushion measurements switched. Later on you correct yourself but do not mention the error in the beginning. Hopefully others will catch it, also. I like your beach blanket, also. Love the idea and want to give them as gifts.

    • @TheMasquerade
      @TheMasquerade  7 років тому

      Thanks Kathy! The switch was pointed out to me when I first posted the video - but once it's posted I can't change it. I think there are comments made regarding the correct measurements - but people have to scroll to find them. I guess that's what happens when I edit my videos at 2am! LOL I've been trying to be more vigilant lately - but I always welcome constructive criticism! Have fun sewing!!

    I made one last night and I lined (sewed in) 8 weight plastic in the bag part. With the plastic the threads don’t stick. Skipped the boning part as the plastic holds the bag open. Love your tutorials, very easy to understand and far less steps than others I’ve watched for this type of bag. Thank you.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. I was a little confused at first. But once I read the comments I realized you made a honest mistake. As for the Pin cushion bag I just had to make one. I recently added a serger to my sewing world and the scraps are unbelivable. I did improvise a little. I didn't have a boning so I used a cable cord and cut it to the size desired. Next instead of using the crushed walnuts I used sugar. Sorry Kids!! LOL. Thank you again I love my scrap bag.

    Love this! Thank you 😁 My next project is a machine mat organiser & I really want to incorporate this into it. I’m thinking of separating the catcher from the cushion & hanging it on the front of one of the pockets with a button, and using Velcro to hold the pin cushion on the side of the mat. Thanks to your clear & easy to follow instructions, I feel I can successfully do this. Thank you again & super cute fabric!

    I absolutely love this only I wish I had that same material :) Best instructions! My mom made me one a long time ago and now I know how to do myself for gifting my daughter and bestie.
    Thank you for this tutorial!

      You are very welcome! I got it on fabric.com - probably not available anymore. But I'm sure if you do a search for for quilting material on that site with key words "sewing notions", they'll have other good choices. ;)

    Love, love this project. Quite clear, and loved the chosen material,But, think for the tuition process it might have been better with a lighter colour. As I say love this. I'm new to sewing and love this idea. Will have ago as soon as I get some as I can get the stiffening and 'crushed walnut shells' if they are available in England, must make a visit to my local pet shop. Thank you

    Just finished making this and it turned out great! Only thing I didn’t do was use any boning as we are in isolation but it still manages to work well 👍🏼 thanks for a great tutorial

      If you have a plastic milk jug, you can cut 1/2" strips from it to make boning. This is a fun project. I'm glad you finished making one! 😁

      I use plastic straps like the ones that are wrapped around cases of paper. Any business that has to order copy paper in bulk will get them!

      I used a flexible cutting board from the dollar tree and cut 1/2” strips. Works fine.
