Toyota Matrix owner here. I bought a 2008 back in 2012 and this car has been fantastic. One of the best purchases I have ever made. It now has over 200,000 km on it and I still see no reason to part with it.
I have a 2006 Vibe and the transmission just crapped out at 213,000 miles. I tried to get a new one put in but it turns out they don't make them anymore. They don't even make all the parts for the transmission anymore so getting it rebuilt is a crapshoot, and I can't afford to have my car out of commission for long. I absolutely hate to part with it, I also thought it would last forever. Has an almost brand new radiator, brand new front brakes. It's a real bummer, in my mind the best car ever made. Good luck!
Hope the 2012 - 2015 Honda Civic is much better than my 2010. My car needs so many repairs the instructor for an automotive technology class told me to go buy another car and get rid of mine. My car has 144K miles on it.
I think one more car that could’ve made the list was the Saturn Vue from 2003 to 2007 only because they have an amazing engine made by Honda that is proven to go over 200 thousand miles easily other than that the list was great 👍🏼💪🏼
I bought a high mile Mazda3 a couple years back and that has been bullet proof. If you're gonna get into used cars then a great vid would be how to tell city miles versus highway miles. Mine had grill chips, dead bugs in the radiator fins, no carpet wear (by the pedals), non worn corner of the seats, slightly worn seat belts and steering wheel.
Exactly right advice. You buy a slice of a car's life. A good car lasts 20 years in good condition, an average car 15....however few cars are priced at 20k new which is a grand a year. Buying early to mid life is the sweet spot. The new car driver is always overpaying for their 3 to 5 years in a car. The banger buyer is always dealing with a car in a nursing home. If you can get a 4 to 8 year old car with one owner for $9k and get 9 years good service....you win the car lottery.

I’m glad you included the matrix/vibe. Any plans to do a similar video for most reliable used top 10 SUV’s under $12-15,000? As always, another great video! Thank you.
I own a 2005 Toyota matrix we bought it with 50,000 miles and now has 260,000 miles and continues to run strong in clean. Definitely a great car oil, tires and brakes, just maintenance
Great list. I've notice vibe prices have crept up over the years since it's become common knowledge that its sister model was the matrix. Factoring for age, it might be more difficult to source trim parts (apart from aftermarket) for it.
As a former used car dealer, I approve this list and if I may add to it for those with a family, yet still looking for something under 10k, The often overlooked Mazda-6 ! If you you can find one with no rust, you are in luck, Even with high mileage, chances are it has all tuneup done on it, so all you'd have to do is rustproof it, put gas in it and change the oil regularly. Mazda-6 drives similar to Honda Accords, but on a lower price tag. You will appreciate the larger size when going on long trips! I see those thing for sale with 4 to 500,000 Kms on it's odo..
Another one I would also recommend, but often overlooked, is the 2010-12 Ford Fusion, which shared the same platform and powertrain as the Mazda6. Plus, the 2010-12 Fusion didn't have the problematic EcoBoost engines that came on the 2013-20 Fusion.
Another vehicle I would recommend are two midsize sedans that share the same platform: a 2010-12 Ford Fusion and a 2009-2013 Mazda6. Both share the same platform and the same reliable Ford/Mazda powertrain. Most importantly, there are no EcoBoost issues because the EcoBoost didn't arrive until the next generation 2013 model.

2013 Civic - great car. 2015 Fit - great car. Easy to work on, parts are inexpensive. Great gas mileage and great value. Bought both under $7000. High mileage but one owner and well maintained. I’ll double miles.
I can remember my dad being shocked when the neighbors bought a brand new 1966 Olds Ninety Eight four door with AC, power everything and an AM-FM stereo. He couldn't believe they paid $4,700 (US). And now $10,000 won't buy any new car, at least in North America.
$20,000 won't even today for the majority of new vehicles. Most even entry level $22,000-$30,000+. Basic trims start around $22,000-$26,000 range for most from what I've seen. For a depreciating asset no less that only lasts for a limited time. Requires routine maintenance and requires insurance to operate. While needing to pay for fuel for it weekly.
Great video ❤ In my experience, the best used cars to get are always Lexus, Toyota or Mazdas. I have had terrible experience with used Honda that were made last 15 years because they burned oil and eventually cylinder failed in every instance. All dealer maintained as well…maybe the dealers were corrupt. The wheel wells rust, subframe rusting, engine failures, fuel lines rusting, starter issues, relay issues, stabilizer links, ball joints, struts and etc. What had happened to Honda and it’s quality?
It's not Honda. It's the fault of the previous owner or dealer must not have changed oil and washed it. It's probably a trade-in from a customer for really cheap
@@pinoyrunningpenguinnope, it was a dealer maintained first owner 2012 Accord. Absolute garbage model. Quality is downright trash. Will never buy a Honda and why is Acura still around as a brand? Overpriced fake leather and wood Honda.
@@Thankyou_3 absolutely not Honda . It’s a fault of the previous owner not anything to do with the car . I have 04 with 300k miles Accord and it idles so quiet it fools me thinking engine is off . Either it was used for towing , wrong oil , changed oil less frequent, poor quality of oil . Sabotaged by previous owner if it was foreclosed , anything can happen
As a micra owner in Canada, sure, engine is fine, though transmission fluid leaked, it seems so many things broke around the car it’s not even funny, from trunk door knobs, muffler, trunk door mechanism, back up cam cover, ventilation system, 2 Nissan batteries barely lasting 2 years and I’m skipping stuff, I’m not sure I’d call it overly reliable. The purchase price was cheap but maintenance and repairs still ended up costly.
Problem with cars like the Fit is the back seat is so close to the rear of the car, so that if you have passengers in the rear seat and get hit from behind those passengers are really screwed.
Just helped my brother get a 2016 Mazda3 GX Manual with 86K on the odometer. The previous owner(s) definitely took care of this car. We paid a little more than we should have, but he needed it and i wasn't comfortable negotiating too much for this one.
The 2008-2012 Scion xB had oil consumption issues. However, Toyota did a recall because the piston rings were too small and oil would burn - the worst case scenario is you'd have to add oil every 1500 miles before your next oil change.. All the other Scion xB models are fine except those oil consumption issue years.
Good list. For the rest of the world you should add Suzuki Swift and Toyota Aygo. The best cars are all Japanese. Best Japanese car brands: Lexus, Toyota, Mazda, Suzuki, Subaru, Acura, Honda, Mitsubishi.

NEVER buy hybrids or EVs. My friend bought a Prius and car has no issues whatsoever. Runs perfectly But so far she has replaced the battery 3x for $5k+ each. Batteries has a lifespan so this will need a replacement eventually despite everything else being perfect. Batteries is just a way for them to keep customers paying in the long run. Compare to my 2007 Scion tC, most expensive expense I’ve had was for less than $100 on batteries.
I would take a new or low-mileage/good-condition 2015-2018 Toyota Yaris SE hatch (preferably 5-MT, but 4-AT also) over any new, stupidly tech-bloated car being sold today for $35K or less. My 2015 was sent to the grave by a distracted driver in 2019, & Toyota discontinued that vehicle after model year 2018 in the USA. :( Loved that little 5-MT hatch.

I'm 78 & in the 1980's & 90's, have bought 5 brand new cars, all for way less than $10,000. each! My question is how have new cars become so expensive in the last 2 decades, that even "used" vehicles are now "commanding" a $10,000. price?
I can't find any of the cars (within the suggested years) at anything close to 10K. I am not sure if the suggested price is for private sellers. We live in the GTA .
Toyota Yaris is as reliable but less known than the Corolla, so you may find a good deal on one of them. My Toyota Echo is the earlier name for the Yaris.
05:01 Scion... The problem with a car that was designed to appeal to younger buyers is that they appealed to younger buyers. Many of the were ridden hard and put away wet, beat and abused to death. Beware. 🤣😂😅
When I was young people who bought Japanese cars were called traitors which is unfair but I could see the point back then. I also think that we should buy American to support our country and wish I saw fewer Asian cars here and patriotism would come back it was kind of sad to see people turn their back on our country so fast and easily. I have never owned an Asian car and never will I care about my country and culture and will fight to save it.
Nissan, Huge pass due to CVT or FWD Transmissions are CRAP, Made by Jatco. Rear wheel drive they did a good job building them. Any car with a JATCO transmission above are a pass. Unless you have extra money laying around to have it rebuilt.
@@ZAT1playerxX13Xx Around here you have to get a very old one with body issues to have it under $10,000. People hate to sell them. A 2012. My dealership fixed the mirror and windshield as part of the price. I added remote start and last year had some rust removal and then the engine work. That was an added $3000. All told, around $10,000 if you consider the trade in of the miserable 2011 Chevy Cruze I only kept a year. I got it for our winters and it has done great. Tremendous heater. Great defroster. I make $100k a year. I drive a paid off 2011 Toyota Yaris. Currently with 78k miles.
Your Small Salary Has nothing to do with You paying off a Cheap car
@@SmallRvElement you sound poor. whats your cashapp? let me send you some money so you can get a ride.
After years of dodge the clunker, given cost of used cars today with the tech in the cars today it's too much of a gamble for me I only buy new now.
Why did they shutdown the Matrix, love this model man !
The Nissan Micra is a great car. But, used ones are worth more than when they were purchased new. Insane prices for them right now.
It is hilarious 😂 near the end of the video that he shows Kia and Hyundai as low-cost and unreliable alternatives.
Mazda 3 is always answer ❤
I would take a new or low-mileage/good-condition 2015-2018 Toyota Yaris SE hatch (preferably 5-MT, but 4-AT also) over any new, stupidly tech-bloated car being sold today for $35K or less. My 2015 was sent to the grave by a distracted driver in 2019, & Toyota discontinued that vehicle after model year 2018 in the USA. :( Loved that little 5-MT hatch.
I heard that the 2.5 liter Ford Fusion was highly reliable
Can you tell me about Mercedes-Benz c200, I like the car, is it reliable?
Seriously Japanese cars are the best 👌 I still own my nissan Tiida from 2008 😃 even after 16 years still working well 😎
Not sure if Japanese cars so uber best. I own a Subaru Tribeca from 2010. Subaru as far as I am concerned has turned out to be a gas guzzler and a white elephant for me. It has 257,000 kms on it. I am looking to get rid of it as I have spent almost 8,000$ in repairs since 2019.
@@sandeeptanjore1253 Subaru 😳 I think you should pick Toyota or nissan or Mazda or mitsubishi & there is too many options when's come to Japanese cars 😉 Subaru technically it's a good car but not for long time 😏
@@wassimakkire7004 what do you mean by long time? All these Japanese brands that you have mentioned are bland i.e. their interiors are bland unless you select the highest trim isn't it? (correct me if I am wrong). I would have loved Suzuki but unfortunately they quit North AMerica in 2012.
ioving this from Swaziland
Is the nissan micra sold in the USA?
Ols school spanish lady told me buy honda or toytoa used when getting your first car.
I'm 78 & in the 1980's & 90's, have bought 5 brand new cars, all for way less than $10,000. each! They
were an '81 K car, '85 Chevette, '87 Sentra, '90 Excel, & '90 Sentra, with the highest costing $7,200! As late
as the year 2000, I only paid $11,200. for a brand new Hyundai Elantra! My question is how have new cars
become so expensive in the last 2 decades, that even "used" vehicles are now "commanding" a $10,000. price?
Calgary Market. Whole list of the cars in the video under 10k are 200k km+, in 80% of the time rebuilt status. Pretty rusty especially mazda.
Finding a car rn in Calgary has been ridiculously challenging
Good one
I can't find any of the cars (within the suggested years) at anything close to 10K. I am not sure if the suggested price is for private sellers. We live in the GTA .
If you check out their website, they will gladly assist you with your search.
There are many available vehicles under 10 000 dollars in GTA area
Yaris came in sedan form as well.
Good video
Put a list on the description box so we don’t have to scroll up and try down your video looking for the car name!
I heard cvt transmissions suck tho. Thoughts please from anyone
What about a 2019 to 2022 Honda hr v ? It's actually better than the FIT !!
Is that Pontiac designed and made by Toyota or Pontiac!
TOYOTA
is toyota venza reliable?
nissan micra/ march is one of the best small cars ever.
one cant find this cars under 10k
Honda civic 20122015
Toyota corolla 2014- 2016
Mazda 3 2012 0or newer
To
I’ve read multiple reviews that the Mazda 3 isn’t reliable.
Beware. 🤣😂😅
90% Japanese on the list…no surprise here!
Just ask Scotty Kilmer.
Hello
I am in the market for used car if you find any good deals for the reliable car as you bought please let me know not the Nissan.
Thank you
What about Subaru Impreza?
The 10+ year old ones in this price range have potential oil consumption and head gasket issues.
Do you mean 10k USD or cad?
Either. The list applies to both.

2012 nissan sentra manual trans 146,000 miles no problem
Civics cost more than that. Not a cheap car like a Corolla
None of these cars are made for tall people

Thanks for stating the obvious. 😮
Actually I counted 4, not 10: toyota, honda, mazda and nissan. Anything else than boiled potatoes without salt? No? Well then, I'll pay a bit more...
Yaris was made for toyota by mazda.
There were two completely different Yaris versions. One was a rebodied Mazda2, and the other shown in this video was made by Toyota.
👍
Better rename your channel to Mr Toyota.
Reliable is in the title. Jokes aside Subaru is also a reliable car that wasn’t mentioned
@@ZAT1playerxX13Xx Around here you have to get a very old one with body issues to have it under $10,000. People hate to sell them. I got a Legacy at the end of 2019 with two outstanding recalls at a distant dealership I did at the start of covid :( , that had been hit in a parking lot which destroyed a heated mirror and the windshield, and needed its 100,000 mile work on timing belt etc plus a new battery. I wish it had the clearance of a Forester to drive over snow in our parking lot and a large trunk.
These cars are too little. I’m 6 foot tall.
Just avoid the 2006-08 Civic with the 1.8L...cracked blocks were common.
Not true whatsoever
