I'm still waiting for you to start you video with "Shut up"...
Same
When I’ve either bought a lot of these or have most of these on my wishlist.... clearly I take a lot of your recommendations lol
You’re recommendations are always so great! Like, probably at least a third of the books I read are ones you talk about. Red Sister, Children of Time (a book I got to share with my dad!), the Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, Scythe, Blake Crouch in general, and more. Just wanted to say thanks for all you do on booktube 😊
I picked up Red Sister on your earlier recommendation. I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to Grey Sister
Recommendation for Psychological Thriller pleaseee❤️❤️❤️
This was such a great video, because I’ve been looking to expand my reading tastes into more adult books. I really appreciated the sci-fi recommendations :)
I always love your recommendations . I love how much of a range you have in the books you read 🙌🏼
Loved the 7 husbands one. I love all of Judy Blume’s adult books they make me so emotional for some reason.
Yaaaaay Mistborn!! Definitely 👏🏻💙 And also Nevernight! You’ve mentioned two of my absolute favourite books in this video and I am singing my agreement!!
Definitely agree with a lot of these. I'd also add for fantasy readers the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett, and for those who prefer YA contemporary, The Sisters Chase by Sarah Healy and anything by J. Courtney Sullivan.
Yeaaaah I found the Priory of the Orange Tree to be incredibly underwhelming. It had a lot of potential, but I think the best aspects were under utilized. I think the last quarter of the book really lessens the gravity of everything that happened before it.
I would recommend 'turn of the key'. For those into thrillers. Its quick and easy read.
I went from barely reading any sci-fi to being unable put them down thanks to your great recommendations! So I definitely need to pick up the Hank Green book soon :)
I finished the last book in the Nevernight Chronicles and loved them!! Thank you for the recommendation. I'm curious about starting the Red Sister books and wanted to know which series did you enjoy more? Nevernight or Red Sister series?
I literally bought most of them thanks to your reviews during all this time!
You look stunning 😍 yes, Sanderson rules :D
Hey there Emily. How are you doing? It's funny that the first book that you mentioned, is a series where I have yet to listen to the last book in that series. However, now I want to listen to that book the most. All of the books that you have listed are all on my TBR pile on my cell phone. I am currently listening to the Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordon.
not even gonna lie, i loved the ending of Priory because i’m NOT a big action reader. I was living for the characters and the plot so i was happy when the war was summed up quickly 😂
What are some adult books you would recommend to YA readers?
Phantom of the Opera, Pride and Prejudice, The Lord of the Rings, Asimov's Robot Detective series, Digger by Ursula Vernon, Agnes Grey, The Martian Chronicles, The Space Trilogy, Till We Have Faces, and Disc World books just to name a few.
I'm very bad at distinguishing what's adult and what's YA. But I recommend Robert Jackson Bennett's Divine Cities Trilogy, very fast passed, great world-building, very important topics that are discussed within the book. I'm nearly finished with Foundryside, too. To me, it seems more YA than Divine Cities but it's still listed as adult on goodreads.
Good picks! Definitely Red Sister and Vicious :) I'd also recommend A Closed and Common Orbit by Becky Chambers for scifi lovers, The Witches of New York by Ami Mackay for a historic fantasy, The Illumination of Ursula Flight by Anna-Marie Crowhurst for a good historical fiction title, The Improbability of Love by Hannah Marie Rothschild for a fun art caper, and finally both Mr. Penumbria's 24 hour book store, and Sourdough, by Robin Sloan for fun short books. Sourdough is especially weird, it follows a young female tech engineer in San Francisco and her obsession with Sourdough bread that dives into the somewhat weird and borderline fantastical! It's a very short audiobook and I think you'd like it!
I feel like new adult is generally a good way to go in general, it's a good introduction into the adult genre, especially thrillers. Some of my favourites are Neverworld Wake by Marisha Pessl, Sadie by Courtney Summers and I'd even add Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand.
Ready Player One by Earnest Cline.
Good recommendations!!!! 👍🏼🥰
evelyn hugo was sooooooooooo good!
I'm crossing my fingers it will become a movie!!!
The Lord of the Rings. I was in my teens the first time I read it and, a million years later, I still love it.
Barbara Moignard The audiobook done by Phil Dragash is amazing (if you feel like you can’t get through the first part of the Fellowship).
I've bought 7 husbands just because you are recommending it so often! =D Waiting to get it from Book depository any day now.
I really want to read Mistborn - it's been on my shelf for aaaaagggggeeesssss!!!!
a little unrelated but what lip product are you wearing in this video? It looks great!
Yes I loved the Villains duology it gives a college reader vibe, and recently read Evelyn Hugo. The rest are literally on my tbr I am slackin! I tend to read more adult anyway, I wonder what the opposite of this would be, like what YA do you think someone who mostly reads adult should pick up?
If you like YA fantasy, I would also suggest Foundryside. It’s a new fantasy series, the 2nd book will be out soon enough. It reads easily and kinda like a YA minus the cheesy romance.
This is great! I've read a third of those and loved them all! I need this in reverse: what YA books would adult readers also enjoy? 💗
Working on it :)
Yaaay 😍 thanks for fuelling my tbr 😆
Wait, what? I thought Mistborn was YA! I did not know this...
Also, so many of these books are already on my neverending TBR because you suggested them. 🤣
I think I’m going to reread the wayward pines trilogy, I had a great time! :)
Hey Emily! What about you recommending YA books to adult readers? :) I struggle with YA but I still can't let it go completely. I really enjoyed Me and Earl and the dying girl, It's kind of a funny story and The fault in our stars, but I mainly read literary fiction now. I'm not a fan of fantasy or romance, but I really like distopian and scifi :)
I loved Vicious and need to read Vengeful! I've also been meaning to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo because everyone and their mother is talking about it.
couldn't agree more about Mistborn 😍
I'd recommend The Binding by Bridget Collins for this topic. It reads almost like a contemporary. And even though I generally wouldn't enjoy the romance parts, but this was so original and creative. You can bind memories into books and it definitely made me think. The characters are in their 20s I think. I think a lot of people would vibe with it.
Hmm, I'm in doubt about Nevernight. Maybe don't recommend something with such a specific writing style?
I read mostly adult (95-99%) and I couldn't get past page 30 because of the writing.
although I've since grown into liking adult romance more. Still don't read it often, but a good one is a nice palate cleanser after heavy books
I hope you read Sanderson’s Way of Kings soon!
Emily, have you read Dark matter from Blake Crouch?
Picked up Nevernight a while ago, the story and characters were cool but I really hated the footnotes
Dan Browns books, are really fast easy reads, he's not the best writer but his writing is super easy to read/understand so you can read the books really fast.
I would also say that zadie smith is a great author, she has a rather large vocabulary at times, but her books are shorter than a lot of other hardish to read authors, so i would say her books are worth the read.
lastly I would try and figure out why you haven't tried much adult books, and try to find a book that doesn't have that. I read only ya for a while and what made me switch was just pushing through longer books that I knew were faster paced and know a lot of the books I read are larger and it doesn't intimidate me as much as it used to.
Yeah I agree!!! I love his writing style...
Good day
Hi. Just wanted to say that anything V.E Schwab is Adult and anything using her full name Victoria Schwab is middle grade or Ya. I believe that I read it in an interview somewhere? I don’t quite rennet. So sorry. I’ve read her middle grade City of Ghost and I enjoyed it. Read it with my son.
Gah, I still haven’t gotten to Nevernight 😭
Ok ok you’ve convinced me. Which Sanderson book should I start within I’m not a YA reader? Way of Kings?
If you start with the best you might find it hard to go to his older stuff lol
Try Elantris or warbreaker first
NEVERNIGHT
Not able to do much because i hurt my ribs so getting some book recommendations.
Good thing I wasn't funny today XD
Get better!
I think the shades of magic trilogy is a good option too! One of my favorite series! Any by Schwab is a good option!
the way you say “boat” instead of both is so cute fjfkg
I DNF'd The Priory of the Orange Tree. I couldn't get into it or connect to any of the characters.
I am not a fan of Mistborn, but I like Elantris.
Same
Only read ‘Adult Book Recommendation’ and thought you were about to recommend me some smut
Not really my jam sadly! I did do a "best romance books" which is probably as close to that as it will get XD
@@BookswithEmilyFox haha not my thing either but would have been hilarious coming from you! :)
Any adult book that has character art and drawings makes me think it's a YA 🤷
It’s not always that way. Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is a good example.
Everyone should real a man called ove (or britt marie was here) by fredrik backman, its like the storied life of A.j fickry. A grumpy alone old man who finds love through people. Its funny and sad and ugh
I don't think I made it past the first chapter of Nevernight. The book starts with a sex scene! What kind of book starts with a sex scene?!? I can turn a blind eye and skip a sex scene if I already care about characters but I'm not putting myself through the cringe if I'm not invested already.
That’s why I always say to skip the first chapter lol
@@BookswithEmilyFox Aww I missed that x.x
But it’s so so so good
Red Sister was almost OK. But then the other sisters were more interesting/believable (Arabella, Clera even, plus the older nuns). Nona was just annoying and unlikeable
