Salinger, Ancillary Justice by Ann Leckie, A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle (a classic but SO much fun), Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs and (don't tell anyone) Moby-Dick, which I listened to as an audiobook read by a fantastic Shakespearean actor who made everything twice as funny and epic. Meanwhile I need to finish my first book of SK which is "The shinning" (I'm in 67%) and I gotta say that Im very surprised, cause I thought that it will be more mistery than horror given the many reviews that I've seen of him and his books, still I think that this cooooould be consider as Horror (I think that someone who tend to avoid horror movies maybe could have nightmares) eventhough I have been able to sleep as a baby.... Btw 3 of the best books that I've read this year are: "Children of time," The frozen heart" (It's a spanish book of the Spanish War cause I love historical novels and suffering is also one of my jams) and "The Nightingale" :)

    I remember when my girlfriend was talking about Skyward and I couldn't understand why she's so hyped about it, but then I got my hands on this book and now I understand. I didn't know there'll be something that's going to beat Vicious but oh boy, this series has become one of my favorites. And I can't wait to read the 3rd one which I hope will be released not in 100 years because #teamDoomslug

    Is Skyward a good place to start if I've never read Brandon Sanderson. I want to try a bunch of popular authors in 2020 and he is one but idk where to start.

      Definitely not a bad way! It's different than the rest of his stuff (YA sci-fi instead of Adult Fantasy) but it will give you an idea if you like him!

      I'm also a first time reader of Brandon.. I started warbreaker the other day (a stand-alone) and I'm loving it. It's moving along quickly and the premise is really intriguing. Have a look on goodreads

Of course I got somehow attached to the charakters but overall I didn‘t really enjoy reading this, I got kind of bored I don‘t know. At some point I just wanted to get through it as fast as possible because i didn‘t want to dnf it

      @@Jenbebookish i remember her talking about it because I had read it before that.
      Maybe I didn't get it, or maybe I just couldn't suspend my belief while reading it since I'm a biologist and the story was pretending to be all scientific with the weird cloning and genetic modification stuff. And while generally I would be able to suspend my belief, I feel like especially with Margaret Atwoods stuff, it's meant to feel like it is something that could happen or like something "too close to home". Instead, I felt like it was trying to be edgy and make you think, but the ideas came from some teenager or something so it's actually dumb. Like, im14andthisisdeep. I guess that's why I couldn't enjoy it.

    • @Jenbebookish

      elines acevedo maybe Emily was talking about wanting to read it, or picking up the book in a haul or something because it’s not listed on her Goodreads as read it’s still on her TBR shelf.
      It’s been so long since I’ve read it that I don’t remember it well enough to comment on ur comment! But I can see how being a biologist could affect ur experience since you have knowledge in that department! The Year of the Flood was really good too I thought

    I really want to read 'a little life' still, before the end of the year! I just fear, a little that it'll ruin my (already non existent) christmas mood 🙈
    I love all these end of the year videos!
    Just a side note: it's not all that helpful to say 'trigger warning for everything' 😅 not blaming you, obviously, a lot of ppl do it, but i think it'd be far more helpful if you either went into detail with the trigger warnings (maybe in the description) or just pointed ppl towards looking into the specific trigger warnings if they are likely to be effected, that way there are no spoilers, but it's more specific and helpful (again, maybe you could put links to a list of triggers in the description or a pinned commen. Tiggers can be really specific and i think it's unhelpful and a little missleading to put it this way, even though i can totally see why you do it. Just a thought^^

    • @BookswithEmilyFox
      @BookswithEmilyFox  5 років тому

      I said everything because the list would include most if not every single one I can think of... hence the "everything" :s
      But sure I can definitely mention it's worth looking up if needed!

    • @josie8997
      @josie8997 5 років тому +1

      @@BookswithEmilyFox I definitely do get the intention behind it, sorry if that didn't come across 😅 i just think even for books like "a little life" or "dragon republic" who both have 'triggers for everything' they'd be triggering for very different groups of people, if that makes sense? And it's like that with a lot of books that are describe this way.
      I'm personally someone with very specific triggers so that's why i think it's always important to make these lists more available ☺️ thanks for hearing me out!

      Read dragon republic and almost done reading a little life. A little life's trigger warnings: sexual abuse, torture, self-harm, pedophilia, and suicide. Dragon republic's tw: substance abuse self harm, and suicide.
