I've been following your journey from the start. I can't wait to see you summit Katahdin. I summited on June 11th, 2021. I can't imagine what it would be like up there this time of year. Good luck, Kelly!

After you summit, go back down the Abol Trail. It's the fastest way down.. Be prepared to do some bouldering.. Make sure you fill up on water at Katahdin Stream. There's slim pickings on the way up and there's next to nothing above treeline.
The views from the top of the Greylock tower were awesome. Glad you didn’t skip those steps!

The red in the water is likely from high iron content...FYI
The red can also be from tree roots treading tannins in the water.
Yeah we learned about the tannins! I kinda grew to like the taste they gave the water lol
The water color is from tanic acid from the conifer trees. It wont hurt you and most all wilderness water in Canada looks like that.
Here's another missed opportunity. What is the big flat rock in front of the tower? I can't find it on the web!

The red is probably iron, which is incredibly nice water and long as your 100% sure it is.

That was a monster day! So happy you were blessed with clear skies at the Mt Greylock war tower after having endured so much rain and humidity! Another good restaurant choice at the Trail House! Good way to beat the Massachusetts blues.

Hey Kelly! Another “perfect” day in Mass! That’s not blood in the water, that’s just what our streams look like after a good storm, all the iron gets stirred up. Looks red and tastes nasty! Omg a whole day with no town food! How did you make it!!! You totally lucked out with the weather and that the lighthouse was open! That descent into town is killer. I much rather climb it! Huge shout out to the angel that left the magic! North Adam’s is an awesome town, you should come back up in the van! What an awesome day! 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. #giveashit
