Make sure you are hanging your bag on the west coast so you don’t encounter bears here. Just an FYI, they now make CNOC bags for the Be Free filters. You’ll possibly need the bug net again going through central California, if you are near the dairies, the flies and smell is horrible!!
Kelly, this was so helpful to me! I've been planning my AT thru-hike since I was 13 (I'm almost 18 now) and your videos are always so inspirational and informative!! Thank you for this
Are ya missing the trail, Kelly? The trail can change a person sometimes, but you seem as sweet and happy as we have come to know you. Believe me when I tell you, we have followed many different hikers on many trails, and you really rocked it! You made it such a fun experience to follow you. God bless ya! We will be watching for your next adventure. Much love, and appreciation for what you gave us!
So I was watching you talk about how your pillow had turned into a balloon and I thought to myself that's perfect! I'm a guy, 6'2", with broad shoulders and a side sleeper. I've been looking everywhere for a pillow thick enough to hold my head up while sleeping on my side. I was able to pull the bladder out through the inflation hole and cut out the parts used to keep it together. I then stuffed it all back in and blew it up. I now have a 7" thick pillow which works perfectly for me. How cool is that. Thanks Kelly and best wishes for you on your upcoming thru hike \O/
Question, what year did you hike the Appalachian Trail? You mentioned two people, Walmart, and another guy that used a hammer, I hiked a thousand miles of the Appalachian Trail in 2019 and came across a weird guy using a hammer just south of stanimals in Waynesboro, it was a really weird night he was using his hammer to hammer up wood and burn it around the fire all night long, one of the most creepiest nights I've ever had to deal with

The plan is to emulate the original BA footprint to set up the stakes and rainfly stand-alone first in case of rain. What's your experience putting up the tent while it's raining? Greetings from Germany.
Hi Kelly. So I just watched your post, AT thru hike gear summary. Interested in your comments on the Garmin inReach mini. Your comment about your “moms” garmin was funny. Our son begins his AT thru hike in mid April. Even though he is a very capable hiker, we have discussed the possible need for the garmin. Do you have any other comments/recommendations on the garmin (or similar)? Do you or your fellow hikers still use one? Looks to be invaluable if there is a true emergency. Plus service when there is no phone. Thanks for your time, and your videos!
Hi Kelly, hope you are doing well. Are you going to be doing some warm-up hikes? Did you enjoy Florida? Time is flying and you will be on the trail soon. Stay well and be safe. I like the things your mom gave you as gifts.
Not sure what hikes I’ll do to warm up. Hoping I can break away and get out there soon. Florida was amazing. I already miss it so much. Can’t believe it’s almost mid March! Pct is getting close!
i made myself a phone holder for my shoulder strap with an extra pocket on the front. i had been struggling to figure out where to put my pepper spray but this is the perfect spot!
Please take care of your body. You have been putting it through alot lately. The rashes and surgery and fatigue, just take it easy sometimes. Our bodies can do alot but you will know the signs that it needs rest. Take care of yourself.
Thank you for all your videos! I cannot wait to do the AT (not sure when I will find the time)!!! Until then, I will live vicariously through you and hike as much as I can.
And for your quilt you should also look into TrailHeadz..they have Unicorn Fluff (I think that's what its called). Its the lightest down in the industry and soooo warm!!

I'm working on my PCT gear list and going ultra light this time, so every oz counts now. Good to know about the GoPro extras. See you out there, maybe.
Always bring pepper spray and anything to protect yourself. You can dig a small hole near your tent door to pour out pee right away then fill it once you pack up. That diclofenac sodium is basically what Voltaren has and does. It is a anti-inflammatory (just like ibuprofen) and helps take away pain fast. Which is good for arthritis pain and had no idea my pain was arthritis type of issue
Hey Kelly! Great video, thank you for making it. For the pinholes in the cnoc, grab some small super glues from dollar tree. One drop of glue fixes the pin holes. Got the tip from Cnoc and have fixed like 50 holes in mine. I like the dollar tree glue because it’s cheap and you get three small tubes. Great for fixing cuts and gluing toe nails back on too! I’m switching to the Nu25 this summer for my headlamp. I’ve used the ucoair 150 for the last3 years, it’s rechargeable but only hold a charge for like 30 min now, not enough for night hikes. My favorite piece of your gear was your tent. It was so nice to have someone not in a duplex. I can’t wait to see your PCT gear video, always a good time. 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful

As an RD, can you recommend any healthy no cook / no soak foods to keep healthy out there. I'm thru hiking this year, I'm 58, and need to keep my body moving.
Black Bears have a very Keen sense of smell that ranges well over 15 miles and can be really Curious sometimesy.. if theyre hungry or have cubs to feed theyll atleast check out a smell.. Not hanging your food up or putting your bear can away from you as much as possible is a Huge Gamble. Think its jus better to be safe n not chance it.
