Thanks for watching!
Let me know if you have any topics for new videos!
More videos to come!
I'm not responsible if you break something.
I REALLY like this kind of bare essential car repair video. I need to see the work being done and the tools needed to do it, not some random dude talking the whole time.
I agree!
Great video thank you. I'll be doing this next week to my sewing machine m20. The view of the cam lobes was something that not many guides show and gave me a good idea on what to expect. Also, the method for turning the rear wheel in 5th gear will not work for vehicles equipped with an LSD.
Thanks! That e30 had an LSD in it so it will work. Another way is to use a 22mm wrench on the crank too
+CoastalMotorWorks Are you sure? Because the 325i didn't come with an LSD. Pelican parts valve adjustment page can confirm that it works for all cars without one. If it does indeed have an LSD I think it may be time for a new one! In any case, looking forward to more vids!
Dave Medvedev most car with m20 doesn't have LSD
Only the 325is mtech came with lsd.
Lots of false information on here about LSDs. Many e30s came with LSD and many also had it as an option. Mtech 325is is most definitely not the only E30 that had LSD. My '92 318ic has a factory LSD and I've had a 318is with LSD. Engine size has no relation with whether or not an E30 gets an LSD.
great video buy this takes way longer than 5 minutes.
Im not scared anymore lol
Fantastic video. Will use this for my M30 with a 0.30mm feeler gauge.
Nice Vid :D one small tip, try the 0.013´´ feeler gauge it will be still loud but not so much ;)
Wouldn't exactly say 5 minutes lol
intake and exhaust 8 N 10
hey boys
i have 1983 e28 m20b20 . which mm need my engine?
Same question!
0.25mm cold, 0.30mm hot engine
the best way use normal breaker conect it to the wire in the round terminal that goes to the starter relay and you can crank it bit by bit
So once you start the vale adjustment on #1, do you start making valve adjustments based on the firing order and complete to #6 just like that with the feeler gauge, allen key and wrench? I saw in the video he turned the wheel the second time and I could not conclude what was being done there because it looked like he was still on #1 redoing the valve adjustment as next to the timing belt. Was he turning the wheel so that the lobe was facing the right way, then he adjusted that valve according to the firing order? Please clarify. Thanks for the nice video.
Usually i do it based on how the lobes are pointed. This way you get the fireing orther anyway. I turn the engine with a 22mm wrench at the front of the engine, at the v-belt side and then look how they are pointed. I pull 1 quater each turn, and you should get all of them 1 by 1 or if they pointed right 2 or 3. Sorry for my bad english, it is not my first language;)
But is it really normal mister?? To tick like that?
I hate that noise on my e30, if it's normal to sound like that then I'll accept that fact eventually lol yeah but please reply I need help
It is normal, but it shouldn't be too loud. It's hard to gauge by sound without experience, so trust the manual and guides. Provided you don't have an exhaust leak drowning it out, you will still hear the ticking at idle under normal operation.
no video for auto e30?
robert bohorquez lift the front. Block off rear wheels and put car in neutral. 22mm or 7/8inch on crankshaft and spin it that way. I did my clearance at .10inch and it sounds like shit lol sooo much ticking. Will try .09 tmrw.
Nice work, and nice editing skills. Try to put some gentle music in your future videos.
+Kita U Bila Thank you! Every video after this one has music in it, check out my channel!
+CoastalMotorWorks I would way rather hear No music.
can i do the same on a m40 engine?
How To Pc Basic M40 has hydraulic lifters
Mines 200k miles
Did you figure out why it is still loud?
+Logan Case I haven't yet.. I have tried a couple things so far, like doing the valve clearances tighter and using a heavier oil and it still ticks, but definitely isn't as loud as it was. I'm gonna try a couple more things.. Most people on the forums say that its regular for the M20 to tick lick that, but I don't know, that doesn't sound right to me!
+CoastalMotorWorks interesting I'm going to do the adjustment now and see if it sound any different.
+Logan Case let me know if you solve it!
its normal for this engine. you have to hear em tick or its not good.
set each valve at 0.25 mm and it will run, start, drive better (bmw specs is normally 0.20) but mechanics say at the bmw garage to set them at 0.25 its much better like that and the noise stays the same for me. i use castrol magnatec 10w40 oil semi synthetic
even with brand new rocker arms and camshaft they stil make noise
Really liked the video, it was short enough for my sons attention span. One concern, the M20 2.5L I6 firing order is 1-3-5-6-2-4. Did you perhaps juxtapose 3 and 5?
