  • HOW MUCH POWER DOES AND LS1 REALLY MAKE? HOW MUCH POWER IS A VORTECH SUPERCHARGER WORTH ON AN LS1? DO I NEED AN INTERCOOLER? HOW WELL DOES AN INTERCOOLER WORK? SHOULD I RUN A CAM WITH MY SUPERCHARGER? HOW MUCH POWER IS AN LS1 CAM SWAP WORTH? DO I NEED A BLOWER CAM? WHAT HAPPENS TO BOOST WHEN I ADD A CAM? WHY DID MY BOOST DROP WHEN I INSTALLED A CAM? WILL THE BOOST LEAK OUT WHEN I ADD A CAM TO MY SUPERCHARGED LS? CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO WHERE I RAN AN INTERCOOLED VORTECH SUPERCHARGER KIT ON AN OG 5.7L LS1. I COMPARED THE STOCK CAM TO A MILD COMP XR265HR CAM AND PROVIDED THE CHANGE IN BOOST AND CHARGE TEMP DATA BEFORE AND AFTER THE ATW INTERCOOLER.

    A perfect video for my mildly cammed and head swapped 2004 GTO. Have been wanting to purchase a centrifugal supercharger instead of a roots type.

    Great information provided here. I have an 03 vette with a procharger and stock cam. Been thinking of upgrading to mild camshaft Hardly seems woth the cost to upgrade cam for such minimal gains under boost Thanks for this info. Cheers.

    I consider myself a Ford guy overall.. However, Im a car guy that likes them all. Ill never argue what brand is better than the other. Whatever brand I decide to build I simply study up on it.. Ive decided that I need to build a ls6 t56 s10, daily driver with ac. It's not a track truck however I hope to get a 10.99 on motor only and that's the last time it will see the track.i "might" add a blower just because or a small hit of nitrous 100-125 .If I do that should be good for very low 10's and possibly a 9.99.

    back in the day the ls1 would pick on the ole school 5.0 but boy has the ties turned , with a cam and headers it matched the power of stock gen 1 5,0 coyote. its a bet to say the hay day of LS is over,

    Been waiting for this brand intercooler test but I'd rather see it combined with a water cooled turbo connected to it

    Has there ever been a cam comparison where one cam made less power NA but more power boosted compared to another cam (when boost is kept relatively constant)?

    • @ryandoyle4344
      @ryandoyle4344 Рік тому

      Even a broken clock is right twice a day. It maybe possible, but would go against the norms.

    • @nowayjose596
      @nowayjose596 Рік тому +2

      @@ryandoyle4344Well to me that would be the proof that a "turbo/supercharger" cam actually works (and yes, I know every cam is a turbo cam, etc). I would even settle for one that has milder specs (like less overlap) but still makes the same power - that would also validate the idea of a cam that is tailored specifically to boost.

      I have not seen that

    • @ogfromutube9649
      @ogfromutube9649 8 місяців тому

      The fact that a forced induction cam makes more power than an na cam while in boost is proof in itself.

    I'm considering running the v3 vortech centrifugal on my lm7. Currently has a summit 8707 226/238 .600 @ 113 lsa. BTR pushrods and trunnion kit. Pac 1219 springs. Tbss with 92mm snake eater cable tb. On a stock p01 on hptuners.
    Also has fresh stock 706 heads and new headgaskets and head bolts.
    Has 1 7/8 longtube headers.
    I Was tossing back and forth between torqstorm vs vortech. I liked the supercharger idea over turbo for many reasons. One being i get to keep my $1500 fabricated exhaust.
    I already have a walbro 450 to replace my 255. And thinking of some ev6 deka 80# to replace my 33lb flex fuel injectors from an l59. An adjustable -6 feed and return fpr to replace the 58psi Corvette filter/regulator. Do you have any preference one over the other? The vortech utilizes 6 rib system off the stock accoessory drive. Torqstorm has a bolt on hub and separate 8 rib with a kit for pinning the crank. Are there concerns with the vortech on an unpinned non keyway truck crank pulley?
    Seems the vortech might be better for space as well.
    This is in a volvo 240 sedan. With the summit 4 core radiator and 16" spal fan space is limited for pulleys.
    Price point is obviously almost always a factor but it's a mere $200-$300 between kits. I think both will run under 10psi so the stock 1 bar map should work.
    Not too put anyone on the spot but if anyone has a preference. No real power goal in mind just more then it has lol.

    • @richardholdener1727
      @richardholdener1727  8 місяців тому +1

      you need to pin the crank with either and choose the blower based on the desired power level-you will be happy with either (I've tested both many times)

    Is it possible that perhaps vortex decided to put fins internally and out of sight to help dissipate some heat? But anyway it sparked a curiosity in me and I know it's going to sound dumb. But has anyone ever tried putting an intercooler in the exhaust prior to the turbo cause I can't help but wonder if it is possible to supercharge your intercooler?

    • @richardholdener1727
      @richardholdener1727  Рік тому

      this is not a turbo and you don't want to cool the exhaust going to the turbine

    • @keithsmith9889
      @keithsmith9889 Рік тому

      @richardholdener1727 no I know I just can't help but wonder if you could cool exhaust temperature before it enters turbo could it possibly transfer less heat to the cold side.. basically just wondering if you could pre cool your cold air charge..yeah I know it's stupid and probably a lot more trouble than any potential upside but still curious

    • @garagecedric
      @garagecedric Рік тому +1

      @@keithsmith9889cooling the exhaust will remove turbine drive energy, the opposite of what you want. The heat Transfer from the exhaust to the compressed air is actually quite small, except for very light load.

    Always when you say it's a stock motor....nothing is really stock? Lol 😅 you should make the initial tests with a real stock engine man! With stuff normal people have on their cars so stock headers (to actually see it's potential), normal water pump, ect. Please try to start like that on your "stock engine" tests. Thanks.
