Great episode. Easy to follow along with. Showing how to make parts and why you need to design your own. I am looking forward to the next build updates.
Brilliant content. I love the level of skills you fellas have. I met Ash from Fusion fab when I was over from the Uk for a few parts for my M57n2/ 8hp into mt series 4 patrol. Another propper craftsman. I was well impressed with his workshop and his really helpful attitude definitely recommend.
Ash is such a cool bloke, awesome video. Funny how the turbo barra intake manifold looks suspiciously like the manifold used on the first ohc 4L falcon motors
The 8hp is a BMW gearbox and is in many other cars like Jaguar, Range Rover and and. BUT there is an Aussi company making the RR auto-boxes much stronger then original. Which company is that?
The moment I seen the 8 Speed AU crew auto swapping a 79 series with a BMW ZF 8HP70X grabbed a low K box for my 80 and tucked it away in the corner of the man cave for one day, The patrol trans adapter from Fusion Fab looks awesome, hope they have one for Toyota HF1/2A some day soon.
Great info. Excellent build. Geez there’s some extra cost mounting up the 8 speed tranny. It’s quite interesting though cause I got tired of refuelling my barra lol
One thing I should have mentioned was that we built it because of the power output of the Barra we are using. It would be much cheaper to put it behind mine with 300KW say because it wouldn't need to be built!
the gearbox crossmember is a crossmember and should be fixed to the chassis without bushings to tie the two frame rails together solidly. the bushings should be between the gearbox and crossmember only. the only way to do it properly the way you have it now is to add an additional fixed crossmember or heavy skidplate. but if the gearbox crossmember was solid mounted a skidplate could've been attached straight to that.
Can I ask who is signing off the engineering for registration?? For my latest build, the engineer wants either, factory engine/trans mounts from the chassis or the engine/trans combo, he doesn't like my captive mounts, that are essentially the same as yours. Otherwise, another awesome build, that's coming from a boosted LS or 3JZ(turbo 1FZ) guy.
A good question a very good one....... I do like the Amarok ..... the only one from VW I do really like. But then this 8hp is only in the V6 diesel or?
I do wonder witch back end pattern is on the BARRA..... is it Ford or is it something else? Did he say that the BMW 6 speed was on the engine and the 8 speed was with a different pattern and that`s why they made the aluminium ring to put the gearbox and the BARRA together.
I've never undetstood how the power of ANY internal combustion engine is rated in KW... I've always understood watts relate to ELECTRICAL circuits... NOT mechanical "power." What am I missing?
Hey mate, apart from packaging and the v8 "sound" I think I6T's are better in pretty much every other aspect! Have never really considered v8's, I'm sure we will use them in the future if we have to for packaging though!
A 80 series chassis doing more than 140km😂. Great work but I would be more for the reliability availability and replacing of standard parts Each to their own 💪
Hey Greg, understand you're about reliability. So are we! There will be hundreds of custom parts on this build much like BARA45, we'll make it work and make it work reliably!
Another great video Richard. Thnx man! I found another great YT fabricator down your way (all hail the algorithm!) Khaos Designs. Not sure if you’ve heard of them. Just wanted to give them a shout out.
@@moabman6803 why was it a pain out of interest? We will only be using it on certain occasions, this powertrain had had a fair bit of testing with it and hasn’t had any dramas!
@@DesignedandBuilt Getting the system to work reliably day in and day out was difficult. Especially keeping the injector clear was difficult. It kept clogging due to calcification or debris. For a race car i would do it again. For a daily i would be hesitant unless used as a secondary charge cooler.
I don't think gearbox mounts is a good idea to have wider than engine mount's , g-box mount's should be at least the same or narrower , why the gearbox is doing the job of stopping the twis of the engine ,, but who am i to say I'm not a engineer
Hey Adam, since the beginning I’ve always worked with companies that I believe in! Unfortunately I’ve outgrown my tiny little shed space for some jobs like engine/cab mounting and heavy chassis work. While it’s all possible it takes 2-3 times longer without the plasma table and the other resources and I’m time poor. This build will be back in my shed in a few months time to finish off the back end of it. Hopefully I can afford a bigger space of my own in a few years time, saving my pennies!
He would always cad his parts and out source them for cutting he doesn’t have the gear to do a billet ring like that. Think some of its just lessons learned and it’s also not his build to experiment on. I see you point
To each his own. A 30 minute video is probably four hours of editing alone, should he not be rewarded with dollars for time invested?? Personally, I'm happy with the related product placement/endorsement, but if he starts with the knives, VPN or established titles crap, I'm outa here.
@@aaronnoyb I wish it was only 4 hours editing! 32 Minute video... 1 hour per video minute. 32 hours + 8 hours for calculations and info. 40 hours for the edit alone 😁
Entertainment and education all in one video…. crushing it.
Showing how much work and thought goes into custom vehicles love watching your designs come to life
Cheers Simon! heaps of work haha!
poetry in motion! love the work you guys do, and it's so rad to be all Australian made
Thanks Eddy, very proud to make it all here!
Great vid, fantastic to see Aussie design, prototyping and fabrication at work.
What an episode mate. Covered a great amount of the processes taken. Plenty of details. Kept it interesting and informative. So good.

Awesome design and manufacture, i'll be sure to watch along on this build
Excellent episode Richard, entertaining, informative and great to see Australian engineering being utilized.

Another great video Rich, keen to see how the 8 speed drives 👌

I should have been a little more specific, keen for a kit that is not using a spud shaft adapter. @@Aldahandi
Given the cash saved on the 8HP, wonder if the CFO will approve GU diffs an transfer..

I liked to see the n57 engine (it’s a great engine if you fix the common issues)

Find another engineer bro. I've had a few vehicles with Conversions done in my time and they all had different/custom mounts.
Would also be interested to know, needing someone to engineer a SAS for an RC Colorado in VIC
@@barragu7189 Hence my question, whoever they use obviously, is ok with captive mounts.
Good work
Most likely the best Toyota ever. 😇
With a real FORD engine in it..... POWER house.
So good! 🔥❤️🍿
What’s the ZF8 speed out of? BMW?
Awesome mate.
Need a relocation adaptor for the oil filter.
Is this the exact same transmission that would be behind a Volkswagen Amarok?
A good question a very good one.......
I do like the Amarok ..... the only one from VW I do really like. But then this 8hp is only in the V6 diesel or?
I’ve previously had the bi-turbo 4cyl and now have the V6 both transmissions have probably been the best transmissions I’ve ever driven.

67mm turbo makes 1000hp?
Yup. The Garret G-Series G35-1050 68mm
Makes >1000hp on a 4v dohc engine.

Huge mike peak. Split audio from video, split L and R, crush the peaks and put it back in.
