Omg!! Did you know Carroll O’Conner lost his son to a drug overdose and sued his son’s drug dealer and won??? Yep. He also starred in The Heat of the Night with his son before his son died. Which was a hit small town police show. He did a ton in his career. We just stumbled onto your channel and watched the Archie Bunker reaction! We grew up with our parents watching that….and no, our parents thought he was hilarious but did not have the same mentality.. the show was groundbreaking in that it brought attention the injustice many Americans dealt with in society and different cultures. It taught what was wrong in our country and allowed people to talk about it not pretend prejudice didn’t exist. Archie is harmless, he literally didn’t know any different. Ignorance was the EXACT reason he behaved, spoke and believed like he did. It showed how ridiculous people like him behave and made it hilarious!! George Jefferson was his perfect match so funny 🤣 but Carol O’Conner had the best comedic timing in the business. I just lmao watching the clips you played…. Whether people want to admit it or not we as a country have come😢 a long way …. Still a work in progress and there are definitely still ignorant fools, but I believe the majority of people are good hearted people. Archie was but he was so dumb!!! lol lots of genuine laughs and loved your reactions!!! We subscribed! Can’t wait to watch more!!! ♥️✌🏼
There were a lot of times Archie could have done bad things to a minority but didn't because deep down he was a good person. He even stood up to a hate group who was going to attack someone he cared about.

Felipe is absolutely right! Those are the words we use in Latin culture but most often (believe it or not) they are used as terms of endearment. I can completely relate to the “gordo/gorda”.. my grandparents called each other the same but it’s all in jest and love. You would think it’s horrendous but it’s never intended to be mean or harsh. And words like chino or ‘chinito’ are never meant to be racist. It’s just the culture. Please keep Felipe there.. he adds so much to the group. Thanks Felipe!
I agree and we can include sports and entertainment. Tall guys like Stretch Cunningham. Folks with red hair like Ginger Baker, Red Barber, and Red Skelton. Heavy set folks like Fats Domino, Fats Waller, and Minnesota Fats. Many thin guys were called Slim. Bandleaders like Count Basie and Duke Ellington. Let us include Pen Pin and Peppermint Pattie.
Ha! My whole family calls my dad “Negro”. He’s Cuban and darker than the rest of us. It’s a term of endearment for sure.

Good clip lol. About "negro"/"negra": (Heard all over the Spanish-speaking Caribbean.) 1. In non-romantic situations: bud, bro, sis, pal, and so on. 2. Among couples: hon, baby, babe, sweetie, sugar, and so on. No racial overtones in either case. Of course, the literal meaning (black) is common too, but Felipe makes an excellent point when he mentions that "moreno" (roughly, dark-skinned) is often used to refer to black folks. Definitely have to be cautious how you use certain colloquialisms in mixed company. Unless you're prepared for a long tedious explanation.
We still have vhs tapes of Sanford & Son. My Italian stepdad’s favourite. These shows actually brought ppl together bc it was in ur face comedy about the absurdity of racism. It’s sad when ppl can’t understand that as humans, we have a lot more in common than not. Fun fact: With reference to someone here bringing up All in the family, in real life, Archie didn’t want the role at 1st bc he was so opposite of that character. You look like some respectable intelligent men. I’m glad bc u need to be on some level to understand what these shows were trying to do. IMO, they were successful at it. We had a very mixed neighborhood. Italians, Jamaicans, Latin Americans, Portuguese, English, Dutch, Scottish, Asians & we got along. Tbh, any fights etc were usually between ppl within our own community but that’s another story … New sub here 👍
These are just things that are expressed within culture. Individual examples of choice. That are not acceptable for people outside of that culture / minority group to use. I am a disabled woman, wheelchair / crutch user. From birth. Within disability culture. There are many ways people choose to express that identity. Within the disability community itself. Some of us take back the language of discrimination. By owning it. It is not uncommon for some of us. ( especially in the older generations ) To use the word crip, or gimp. When speaking to each other. Yet no person ( in my case. Family / boyfriend, very close friends, accepted ) should ever use that language. Much like the N word. It is a personal. Individual choice. Within the community. As for me. I own all of what makes me. Who I am. I like who that is. I don't need a soft language. To distance myself. From an integral part of my identity / reality. Which shapes my worldview. I am a disabled woman. There is nothing inherently negative, or positive. ln that reality. It simply is. Experience is individual. Physically Challenged, & other euphemistic language. For me. Aside from finding it silly. Gets in the way of a real conversation about equality, & access, as a civil right. George Carlin said. Language always gives you away. The language surrounding disability is steeped in fear. A fear of the unknown, & pity. To pity me. Is to place yourself above me. A civil rights bill means nothing. As long as access continues to be seen as a magnanimous gesture. For which. I should be grateful. Not a law. To be followed. Laws mean nothing. if not enforced. That requires a major shift in attitude. Soft language IMO just won't cut it.

That's a good clip and Sanford and Son is a hilarious show. You guys should check out a show called ¿Qué Pasa USA? There's a small "citizenship clip" (1 minute and 44 seconds long) in which Carmen is quizzing her grandparents that's absolutely hilarious. (Episode 15.) Even if Felipe is the only one who speaks Spanish, the clip is mostly in English and I think you guys will enjoy it. Check it out, and by the way, I enjoy you guys immensely.

Also some.people.call.flaco or.flaca .skinny they even say gordo or.gorda.to a.person that is not fat, is like.nickname. And yes we call all asians chino, but all these terms are.like nicknames.or.slangs. My aunt.was the youngest one and everybody called.her la.bebi, it means the baby, and we used to call her aunt.bebi. We use a lot of nicknames.but they are.not.perceived as literal. There is a song thst a megafamous singer.from.Cuba but she moved to New York, and she was.afrolatina, but ecerybody in Latinamerica loved.her, Celia Cruz and she had a song La.negra tiene tumbao. It means she has swagger.

I am white as snow and was called negra. It terms of endearment. I am Cuban. I wasn't offended but my friend made a joke like, are you blind?😅 I use to date an Italian guy and he would call his Italian friends Dago and ginny.

My family used to gather around the TV every week to watch that show! It was a great conversation starter to social issues in those days. We weren’t afraid to share our opinions to friends and family back then. I really feel that racism has gotten worse since Obama was President. Everybody got angry instead of wanting to work together anymore. Even college campuses have segregated graduations now! That would have never have been acceptable back in the 70’s and 80’s. I lived in Montgomery, Alabama back then and had many wonderful friends of all colors. Something I feel we need more of today. You can’t move backwards and expect different results. We need to realize that the anger has been created for us. Let’s stop being angry and start listening to each other again!! Just like you all do with each other!!! We need more people like you all!!

"Negro" or "Negra" in Spanish is not meant to be offensive and in Latin countries where there is a high population of "AfroLatinos," like Puerto Rico, Cuba, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela...calling them Negro or Negra(female) is not offensive because it's just like saying Black in English. In Spanish we don't have an equivalent to the highly offensive word in English "Ni*ger."

Funny how Latinos conveniently like to leave out how "Mejora La Rasa" is commonly and religiously taught in their households; when explaining their culture to their black friends. And "Moreno/a" can be used in a rayc!st derogatory way.

Exactly negro means black as in the color, but you don't just call someone black when you're calling them like they were doing to the waiter. Imagine saying " Come here black" doesn't sound good lol
But for us Latinos 'negro' is definitely a term of endearment. My boyfriend calls me 'negra' and I'm very white. it's just like saying honey, love or baby. Same as gorda/gordo literally means fat, and people use that as a term of endearment also.
