I always tell folk everybody should have a hobby! It gives you something to do that brings you joy! I've been listening to records before I could read around 4 years old and I'm in my lower 60's now and never stopped. When CD's came in, I kept some of my records and bought CDs and I listen to my music EVERYDAY!
Brother, I'm with you. I'm 59 with circa 11,000 lps and CDs and have loved and been collecting all kinds of music since I was 15. I can relate to everything you just said.
People often call your audio recording collection a "hobby"; however, for folks like us it's a lifeline. A necessary and essential element of living, just as all living things need water to survive.
That's why I'm buying CDs now, and lots of them. This is a great time to buy CDs! People are spending $25 to $50 on new records and they are dumping their CDs, which I am now picking up for $1 to $5 at used record stores and thrift stores. I'm not so concerned about the format of the music. For me it is and has always been about the MUSIC. Happy New Year Kenny!
Variety is the spice of life. I respect the fact that you have a passion and concentrate on it. I have been a collector my whole life, I'm 74, but I was never able to limit myself to one passion. At one time I owned over 100 mechanical wrist watches. People thought I was crazy. I still have nearly 100 film cameras, dozens of fixed blade and pocket knives. Model automobiles in all scales. I went overboard and had to sell an extensive collection of short wave radios and Ham Radio equipment. I'm currently trying to dispose of a life long collection of automobile books and periodicals. My passion for audio equipment and music stems from my fathers love of music and my career in consumer electronics. Let's just say I completely understand your passion, and we are all fortunate that you are willing to share that passion with us.
I'm the same as you with a love for a variety of interest outside of my music listening. I used to have some very good Sony and Grundig shortwave radios several years ago.
I've been collecting lps since the 1970s. There was a time when I felt very "eccentric" about my collection. Nobody I knew kept their lps. Finally I accepted my eccentricity and fully embraced that I'm a nut. Carry on your excellent videos.
You do what makes you happy. There's nothing wrong with that. My English friend has 35,000 British pop singles and albums from the Sixties. He's happy, too. I grew up near San Francisco when I could listen to jazz on KJAZ and KHIP FM radio. Those memories stay strong in my brain. Lots of things may divide us, but music definitely unites us. Keep it up.
Greetings from good old Europe. You're such a nice guy, with an excellent taste in jazz. We love your channel, hope you'll acquire 10 000 records more (at least...).
God bless man ya welcome 🙏 I was told I have loads I don't,maybe 1000 cds, about 200 in records audio cassette about 100 nothing compared to some ppl I bet,I love it,it makes me feel goon having this media from these artists good or bad it's memories when I bought them too, streaming is cool also good on the move though. I'm 45 just a little collector over the 30 something decades of music joy, that's what matters to me forever!!
quite agree. In the early 80s folks were dumping huge collections for very little. I picked up tons and tons of records from all over the planet. I had 9000 records. Ran out of cabinet space, built more cabinets. Now am trying to thin them out. Not easy to do. So far have gotten down a bit under 6000. But you are right, over time the size really sneaks up on a person.
10 years ago or so I got the bug to buy a laserdisc player and a couple movies off eBay since I was just a kid when those things came out. After the auction the guy messaged me outside of eBay and asked if I’d be interested in his lifetime collection of 500+ LDs for $250. Of course I jumped at the chance. I just couldn’t imagine in my head what a nightmare it actually would be when the poor mail lady brought me boxes and boxes of discs lol.
Well said, I grew up in the same era. You mentioned AM radio, you listened to what came on. I too am eclectic, listen to everything and expanded your repertoire of music. Folk, country, R&B, Jazz, classical you name it I probably have it. I can go from one genre to another in one sitting and it’ll sound good to ME! It’ll probably drive people crazy but that ok, I’m introducing them to something different 😉👍🏼
@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews I love your channel and I love your fist/peace sign greeting. I have about 3000 records and my problem is I never listen to them once they have been sleeved and filed because I am always buying new records/new reissues and they take up all my time.
I'm 65 and grew up in the vinyl album era. That big cardboard vinyl cover and packaging is the big attraction for me. Especially with Blue Note jazz albums, I'd get an educational essay on the back that would inspire me to buy more albums by the feature artist and his sidemen. I bought a handful of albums with every paycheck in the 70s through the 90s. I have a ton of cds and mp3s but their packaging can't compare and you get no packaging with mp3s or streams. It just got a lot easier to buy then instead of vinyl. I grew up in the era of record stores being all over the city. Sadly, not any more.
We appreciate you taking the time to share extensively with us. The adage "A Jack of all Trades is a Master of None" holds significant truth. I fully comprehend and respect the rationale behind focusing on a specific genre; when your subscribers receive a notification for a new video, there is clarity regarding the content you are presenting. Cheers and Happy New Year!
In the end there's no explanation needed beyond the fact you like it! It brings you happiness and takes nothing away from anyone else. I like to watch videos by people who appreciate music as much as you do. I learn so much and it always expands my horizons.
Some of us have the collecting gene, and some of us do not! I love your collection! Music is made to be enjoyed, how we enjoy it is up to us. You are a fountain of information!
I've been an avid music fan 'n collector since I was a young'n. I have twice as many records as you as a result o' workin' in music stores most o' my life.I also collect cd's, dvd's, books 'n many other things. All these collections are bringers o' joy to my life. I totally relate to your collector's fever. Thank you for sharin' your relationship with vinyl.
Nice work Kenny. I'm 55 and remember when vinyl (and tapes) was literally the only way you could listen to what you want, when you want. Growing up with that, it becomes part of our DNA. Maybe that's the missing bit for some people. Loving the channel. Greetings from London, England.
Thank you Kenny! I’m up to 997 in my collection! But like you I was exposed to all different types of music from Rock, Pop, Blues, Funk, Soul, R&B, Reggae, Jazz, and Classical. The last few years though have mostly been Jazz and Blues.
Kenny, I don't even know much about jazz but love your videos. I just enjoy how genuine your content is and can't understand why people would come here to comment unnecessary stuff. Sad people are everywhere in the internet, and I really think you shouldn't care about them. hope you keep it up!
Onya Kenny. There is never a need to justify your passion, Dude. Those who question or cut you down, are simply envious of how you/us have such a passion for our interest. Maybe they just can’t find their own…Love your work! Cheers from Oz
First time visitor.............WOW.......Fantastic Channel........same thoughts on all of this as I grew up in same era, same music, same radio station format listening, same open mind to it all. Did radio in early 80's, had no money, I wished I would have bought more radio station promo records as all were available to me from radio record reps priced at Free to $2.50 each. Got into Jazz in college by a girl I met in college radio, glad that happened. Listening to many genres is the key with good audio gear as well, Technics 1200 & SP10 among my TT's along with vintage gear. I am trying to build some plain record shelves to house about 2K in records and growing.
Well said Kenny…I’ve heard it said you’re considered a Master at something if you’ve put in over 10,000 hours doing it. In order to commit to that much time you must have a passion and dream to accomplish your desired goal. I’m a subscriber because I see and feel your passion and knowledge and thus enjoy learning from your Master class on audio technology and Jazz LP’s. I think your music room and the backdrop of all those LP’s are too cool for school and you could charge admission to that room if you wanted. Congrats for accomplishing that music room dream. As you said, so long as you’re not hurting others and financially staying within your means and not jeopardizing family obligations it really doesn’t matter what others think. No price to Peace and Happiness. btw…Congrats on 25k subscribers! Obviously I’m not the only person who feels this way. Speaking of dreaming…my dream video would be you wearing a Maurice Lucas Portland Trailblazers jersey and giving an audio review of Ramsey Lewis’ 1965 classic album “ The Inn Crowd”. Throw your fans a bone and let’s make that happen. Thanks for sharing Kenny 👊
My brother I appreciate your comments as always, thank you...Maurice Lucas was a great player (He played briefly with my Lakers) and that Ramsey Lewis album is a great one for sure 👌
Hey Kenney you are preaching to the choir. The way I see it if you don’t get it, you don’t get it. As a collector I just love records for many reasons, the music on it, the way it sounds the cover art and many more reasons. Record collecting is a passion like some people are serious about their hobbies.. Car enthusiasts, antique collectors etc have that obsession, to each their own. Thanks for another great video about something I can relate to and understand completely. Believe me you don’t have to explain to me…”I get It” ✌🏼
Excellent explanation! I’m glad I found your channel! I had over 1,000 CDs going into the early 2000’s and got rid of them, which I regretted later. Over the last 4 years I have been collecting vinyl records. I thoroughly enjoy it. At first it was getting as many records as possible, then buying less, but higher quality. I have always been a country, rock, and metal fan. However, I discovered Blue Note in my quest for better quality records, and I have been absolutely enjoying jazz. My jazz collection is growing, but I don’t have near enough! Nothing is better at the end of a long day, sitting in my music room with a quality jazz record and just listening over a glass of good bourbon. With records, listening is intentional and much more meaningful for me than streaming. I love the physical format. I know it’s the blues, but I recently acquired Gus Canon’s “Walk Right In” album. It was if he was in the room and telling those stories between each song. Thank you for what you do!
Coming up in that era I also was curious about all those genres and wanted to connect with the mystery of the different artists/eras/genres. I bought records (cds too) from the time I was eight til I had to sell 80 percent of the collection about ten years ago due to financial necessity. I miss all of them.
Right on !!!! This is what it means to a music lover. Many of us built our collections out of love for a particular artist or sound. Sometimes, I had to purge my collection due to a drop in quality or artistic changes. For my taste (and space consideration), I emphasize what is re-listenable. I am very happy with a definitive collection of Miles Davis and Prince alike. My collection is majority Jazz, however R&B, Funk, Hip Hop, Pop and Rock are present and mixed in alphabetically. After working a desk job, it is nice to come home and put my phone away, and enjoy my Denon system for a few hours. These days, especially, we need spaces to renew and refocus our minds.
Great video Kenny! You said it well. Having these records brings you happiness. I have around 3000 Lp’s and 3000 45’s they bring me happiness as well. My wife thinks it’s awesome I have a substantial collection.
Thanks Kenny, I totally agree with your perspective on record collecting. It is about exploring the wide variety of genres and sub genres and the artists within them. Also having choices depending on what I feel like listening to is as you said an enjoyable part of the musical experience. It’s an amazing journey and your videos on Jazz have been exceptional so please keep up the great work.
Thank you for your video, for I am 69 years old and my path to vinyl records is the same as yours. I only have about 700 records, but I have collected records ever since 1967
It's absolutely A-OK to have something to do everyday that (To You) brings you to a place of harmless joy! very good for your soul.. and a healthy view of life.. 😔🦋🙏🎆🌹👍
A room with a collection that's "like Christmas." Perfect! You capture the feeling. I'd wondered about how many records and CDs you were able to organize in that beautiful, cozy room. Thanks. I think the two album covers visible behind you (screen left) suggest an answer to the question of "why": Anybody who collects both James Brown and Rod McKuen obviously has eclectic tastes!
I could not have said it any better than Kenny. My guess is any man that grew up listening to music in the 60's has a large album collection. I'm 67, and I have close to 5000 albums. I do have to say that my intro to jazz began in the early 80's. I was at the record store, and they had a Thelonious Monk album for a buck. I bought it, took it home, played it, and have been hooked on jazz ever since.
I concur what your saying 100%.I myself have approx 4-5 thousand Lps and approx 2000 CDs (great price at the mo) , 800 cassettes and even 1000 ish 78s, I started in 1974 when i asked my mum to buy me Tubular Bells fo4 my birthday as I heard it in music lesson I was 10,at the time., it was a light bulb moment and I haven’t stopped since..my wife thankfully is tolerant and luckily I have lots of storage space..I don’t think I’ll ever stop.
luv your vids. i a little younger then you i am 60 years old. a jazz bass player. moved to new york in my twenties played the village gate in new york 1984 ray brown was there he told me you have great chops. but dont worry about the music just be you. great advice to this day i take it to heart
Hey Kenny, whilst I enjoy all of your videos I think this one might be your best yet. We're the same age and share the same catholic taste in music, irrespective of "genre". What are those genres anyway? As far as I'm concerned, the only three classifications of music that exist are "good", "bad" and "indifferent". In any given week I might listen to rock, jazz, country and classical music, sometimes in the same day. I've long since ceased to any specific genre or coolness of any artists to define my listening: I just listen to what I like, when I like. Like you, I've collected records for most of my life and, whilst I know I'll never live long enough to play them all, it's great to know they're there like fine wines waiting for my enjoyment.
Kenny, thanks so much for sharing on this topic. I have a record collection of about 1,600 albums, and I get the question all the time, including from my loving wife, who thinks I am a little crazy. I have two turntables, one set up for stereo and one for mono. I also have collected over the years approximately 1,000 CDs and SACD’s, which I have now ripped and no longer collect. But I have never been able to articulate why I do it as well as you do. Listening to you, I have most of the same reasons as you. I love discovery of new music. I like variety. I don’t know what I want to listen to on a given day or moment. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. I think I can now better articulate my reasoning going forward after listening to you. Cheers, Luis (from So Cal).
It surprises me that people like yourself feel the need to justify their collection . If it brings you pleasure then so be it. Happy New Year from the UK.
Great stuff Kenny and you're right its about choice and variety .I'm into classic rock, country, americana, heavy metal,Prog rock,soul,50's rock n roll ,Folk,Jazz and more.Something for every mood and occasion. I'm up to about 2,000 albums now. I think Jazz for anyone that gets into it is where collections can explode its such an (enjoyable) Rabbit hole, you look at any of the Bop or hard bop groups and you get an album for the lead but then you dig the sidemen and find their albums and on and on it goes ...
Kenny, I'm a little older then you so there's no need to explain the size of your collection. My collection is all digital so I don't have to worry about space, my collection is about 60K and growing and includes all genres except smooth jazz. When having a discussion about music I rather have something in my collection that I might not have listened to then have to search around for it. PLEASE continue the Jazz conversation, it's much needed.
Kenny--I'm agreeing with everything you say about collecting. I'm a well known world-wide Beach Boys' Collector and Historian. Over the last 50 years, I've collected over 3000 Beach Boys' 7" Records from all parts of the world (You can see a lot of my collection on the BEACH BOYS STARLINE website). Anyway...some have a hard time understanding the passion i have for wanting to have every pressing from every country with every Picture Sleeve, every label variation, Promo, Reissue, Test Pressing, Acetate etc. But the truth is, I will never have everything, but that doesn't matter. I still enjoy it!! I also worked in Radio for a lot of years back in the 1980s and 1990s. During this time I collected and amassed about 23,000 LPs as well. I downsized about 20 years ago to 3000, and I kept some Vinyl albums that just sound great on Vinyl. I'm still hooked on the feel and ambience of vinyl. When it gets in your blood, well, enough said. Dig, DmGrk
Thank you very much for watching my video, I'm honored...the Beach Boys are no doubt one of the best groups of any era..I appreciate your comments, thank you 😊 ✌️
Well said I, like you, have thousands of records. I began collecting in 1964 at age 11. I began with The Beatles and since then my collection has grown not only in size but in variety. Thanks for your thoughts.
I enjoy your straight forward comments and reviews on artists and their albums. I am not a big jazz record collector although I love a variety of “jazz” music and artists. I thoroughly enjoyed your review on Miles Davis and Birth of the Blue and I will probably purchase that recording. I also enjoy Herbie Mann’s work of the 1960’s and found a couple of those records at my local second hand record shop. Keep up your great work, your videos are much appreciated.
What a great video, and I can completely relate to and appreciate your reasoning for having such an expansive collection. I’m right there with you, for the same reasons. And bless your wife for understanding and being so accepting of this source of happiness for you, that’s huge! Wish I could say my wife felt the same way about MY love for music and vinyl records 🤣 🤘🏼
Kenny, this was an interesting video to me! I liked it. I’m 23 years old and I’m a big music person like you, and I’m an old soul! I have maybe around 2,000ish records. As far as genres I like, I don’t really like as wide of a variety as you, but there are several kinds I like. Gospel/ Southern Gospel music is, and will always be my favorite. Other kinds of music I enjoy though, include old crooner stuff like Johnny Hartman (my favorite), Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and enjoy some Miles Davis etc., some country (mostly old stuff), western music mainly like the Sons of The Pioneers, and some barbershop quartet stuff, mainly like Thurl Ravenscroft and the Mellomen. I also enjoy a few things like The Ravens, Mills Brothers and such. Once again, I enjoyed this video, my friend. God bless!
Well for 23 a year old your taste in music is AWSOME....most people your age do not even know who those great performers are. I hope that you stay blessed and enjoy life and music for many decades 🙏
Great video, Ken! First time comment from a relatively new subscriber from the UK, of your channel! That is exactly why I have my collection of 5000-6000 vinyl records and cds. For me also, if I see or hear a video or podcast and someone’s discussing a certain album, I like to know that I’ve got it in the collection and I get it out to reference it to the discussion. Rightly or wrongly, it’s just the knowledge that I have it, which gives me the satisfaction of having a sizeable collection. Keep up the good work my friend. Peace. James
@ Looking forward to watching your earlier videos, as my collecting/listening focus is pretty much on the same lines as yours, jazz, classical particularly, as a classical musician and prog/psyche rock. Many thanks again.
One man’s ceiling is another man’s floor. Finding joy in pursuing your interests is a blessing. Some never do find it and other folks get lost in it. There is no right or wrong answers and some things in life are simply reflections of what makes you happy in a given moment. Music enjoyment is experiential. Transcendent even - if you allow yourself the moment to just experience it. 100% agree with you Kenny. Stay blessed. ✌️
There is an ART to listening to music and enjoying the musical experience. Many folks use music in a limited capacity. Either as background music or music to dance to or party to. Which is okay, if thats how ppl use music. True music lovers, not just audiophiles, but folks like yourself who have a great appreciation of the medium, regardless of genre, revear the music from the beginning of its being written, engineered, recorded, pressed, distributed and equipment that it's played on do. I remember having a conversation sometime ago with a former DJ friend of mine when talking about why people don't understand GOOD MUSIC outside of popular artist and their hits - He had a very simple answer - Most people just don't care to enjoy the music as we do. Period! From that day forward, my perspective regarding ppl like that was made clear and I no longer begrudge them for not having the same appreciation for music as I do. Likewise, folks who aren't as enthused as you or others like us that enjoy channels like yours should be a little more tolerant of us aficionados of music and less judgemental. While I can understand and appreciate your reason for giving an explanation for having amassed such a great collection, for the majority of us that get it, NO explanation was needed. Keep doing what you're doing and that's sharing with your 25K plus subscribers, the joys of finding great music... New and old. Keeping the peace worldwide!
Thank you, sir, for the informative video. I like your reviews on your page and I do like jazz music on vinyl and cd. I have only a few other genres I'm listening to, but mainly I'm hearing jazz. We all developing our favorite music taste, that has changed over the past, for me it's jazz music and classical music after decades of of listening to music. I like your channel and it is always very helpful for me to find new great albums and I appreciate it. Keep on doing your good work. Thanks.
Again such an inspiring video of you speaking from the heart of our media interests. Totally agree with walking into my music room, an uplifting experience to lose myself. Keep up what you do, it always excites my interest. BTW, gave my Don Sebesky Big Box another listen.
Hey Kenny this was an excellent video. You put into words what most of us vinyl collectors actually think put don’t often try to explain. Enjoy your collection it’s awesome!
Great video Kenny! I have finally placed my collection of vinyl and CDs in a room with wall to wall Kallax shelves,,,,,you're so right, it's like walking into Santa's workshop everyday! I feel so lucky to have finally found the greatest hobby ever! Thanks for these excellent posts, Kenny, and Happy New Year!
Your collection is amazing! I don't know why people would judge you for collecting music. It's a healthy hobby (except for the wallet 😂). I love all styles too. It's not good to be a purist in one style which is why Miles Davis is my favorite artist.
Yes sir 100% - regarding time, that's a big factor once you've gotten to our age. I've often told folks that " ... well, I didn't buy them all at once" when they ask questions like these (I get asked about all my *smaller* collections of records or ballcaps or whatever).
Great to have insight and some background on your love of music - unfortunately for myself I sold what albums i had in the early 1980s mainly due to having to losing an audio system due to financial reasons. I had somewhere around 25 - 30 Direct to Disc records and perhaps 100 in total. I never actually got back into having a decent stereo setup until the early 1990s but it was not until 2016 that I started purchasing albums simply because I stopped long enough at a local Value Village to notice their were quite a few for sale as u to the point it was just CDs. From that time it became a growing interest and I was buying anything that seemed interesting, I was most likely one of the few that would purchase Ray Conniff for example. Anyway, the gist of it is that I discovered many more musicians and expanded into Jazz, Soul / Funk, Prog., and many Easy Listening and Instrumental groups / artists that I was not aware of when I was younger and of course my tastes have changed. Due to space constraints the current collection of approximately 1,700 is close to the maximum but as we know if you are open to various genres it never truly ends so I will most likely reduce what I have in order to continue finding records I find more appealing. The best part is finding albums nobody seems to care about or want. Just recently I noticed a few Arthur Lyman records which was nice. Basically as you mentioned there is so much great music to enjoy that many are missing out on if they simply took the time to widen out and appreciate. Never thought I would listen to Johnny Mathis for example but his early output from Columbia during the 6 eye era is very well produced and I find his voice easier to listen to than later in his career. To go from The Pozo - Seco Singers to Enoch Light then Jimmy McGriff, Walter Wanderley, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Mel Torme, Peggy Lee, Paul Desmond, Dusty Springfield, The Carpenters, The Anita Kerr Singers, Pink Floyd, Moody Blues, Gordon Lightfoot, Dave Brubeck Quartet, Stanley Turrentine ,Bobbi Humphrey to Gabor Szabo, any broad mined music lover would definitely understand - and that is just a small sampling. I do have a decent number of CDs and cassettes as well, plus streaming which is actually great for discovering more musical gems.
Thanks for posting your comments...you definitely have a nice variety of choices when it comes to music based on the sample size of singers and groups that you listed...I do have the Pozo-Seco Singers "Time" album in my collection, a nice vocal group.
Bravo Kenny. Moi aussi je suis un passionné, mélomane et collectionneur de cds le tout avec un éclectisme assumé sans oublier les ouvragesen lien avec la musique. Je me retrouve dans votre témoignage. Merci beaucoup. ❤
People seem to have a lot of opinions (especially record collectors). "Your house is to big," "That car isn't practical," "Why would you go to a place like that for vacation?" People are different. It's whatever makes you happy. I'm with you, variety. Being able to go into my record room and have thousands of records to choose from brings me joy. I don't get why other people think their "joy" is the only one that matters. That's a pretty good Rod McKuen album. Do you have the Kangaroo poster that it came with?
Bro', love your video / videos. Dug your take on Miles as well, man. Well, you do what you do because you love what you do, that's what the records are for! Ya need it! Makes you feel good. 100% with you.
Kenny, I'm 61 yrs young and agree with your perspective o music and listening to vinyl. I'm sure I have over 6,000 peices in my vinyl collection, which I see and refer to as my listening library. You and i have the same outlook on the subject. I also have thousands of cds. The point is, its not so much about the format, for some of the music, its about the music itself and how it makes me feel. You do you, and don't worry about what others think 😊
In my mind, if I could own a collection like yours, I would especially vinyl albums from the 80's going back to the 60's. As of now when it comes to the internet as far as new music we have more of a variety of ways to listen to similar sounding music when we used to have a wider variety of music to listen to in general when albums came out without the internet. I envy your collection and keep collecting.👍
I catch crap for owning upwards of 30 Steely Dan albums. Originals, new remasters, uhqr’s, 12” singles, colored Canadian vinyl etc. they are all special to me. People who do not collect, treat collectors like hoarders. Great content as always Kenny. ✌🏼
This was very interesting to me, it made me think "Why is my collection large?" Once I buy a record, I hope to keep and preserve it. Of course I can't listen to them all, but I sometimes 'cycle' through them. For whatever reason, a few notes of something will 'waif' through my mind at any given time through any given day. then off I go. This last go around it was a tune called 'Dream Journey' by Bob James. I still have that album and now I'm listening to it. It sounds better than the day I bought the album. I've bought albums I didn't really like by artists I love. Sometimes, I'll only like one song off a given record, a week or two I'll like two or three songs. After a year or two I can't live without the recording. That can't happen, if you don't keep the records.
I love people with big collections of physical media. I don't personally own any vinyl or even a record player, but I have a massive collection of books and Blu-rays. I've considered getting into vinyl, but my wife vetoed that idea! 🤣 When you go to someone's house and look through their book, film, or music collection, you can get a better understanding of who they are. You can't get that if all they have is a phone or iPad with virtual collections. I miss visiting people's houses and seeing what they are passionate about.
Kenny can you talk about the jazz artists of yesteryear as compared to today, I like the mainstream jazz of the 50's 60's and 70's, but I also like a lot of the contemporary jazz of today. I do think the artists of yesteryear had a better mastery of their instruments however.
A hobby that isn’t illegal, isn’t hurting anybody, and isn’t putting anyone into debt needs no explanation.
just don't go on whatnot... almost got in trouble there with the third part... I also probably gave my mailman a hernia LOL
You be you my guy. You like what you like and you do what you do. big love
😊😁 🙏
Brother, I'm with you. I'm 59 with circa 11,000 lps and CDs and have loved and been collecting all kinds of music since I was 15. I can relate to everything you just said.
You must have a awesome collection 👏 🎶...thank you for watching my video ✌️
I'm not jazz music fan, but your collection is amazing, don't stop. LP'S and cd's collection is fantastic hobby
I appreciate that 🙏 💯
People often call your audio recording collection a "hobby"; however, for folks like us it's a lifeline.
Thank you for those comments...Happy New Year 😊✌️
Variety is the spice of life.
Do you, brother, and enjoy your passion. I love it!
I've been collecting lps since the 1970s. There was a time when I felt very "eccentric" about my collection. Nobody I knew kept their lps. Finally I accepted my eccentricity and fully embraced that I'm a nut. Carry on your excellent videos.
😊😁....thank you for your comments 😊 ✌️
You do what makes you happy. There's nothing wrong with that. My English friend has 35,000 British pop singles and albums from the Sixties. He's happy, too. I grew up near San Francisco when I could listen to jazz on KJAZ and KHIP FM radio. Those memories stay strong in my brain. Lots of things may divide us, but music definitely unites us. Keep it up.
Thank you very much for your comments...I love you last comment...music definitely unites us ✌️
NEVER STOP 🛑 COLLECTING 🎼🎶
Greetings from good old Europe. You're such a nice guy, with an excellent taste in jazz. We love your channel, hope you'll acquire 10 000 records more (at least...).
I appreciate that very much, thank you 😊 🙏
your legend man I admire your music taste and knowleged I have loads too on Cassette,CDs records too. You love music no mtter what its a same with me.
I sincerely appreciate your comments 🙏, thank you very much 😊 ✌️
God bless man ya welcome 🙏 I was told I have loads I don't,maybe 1000 cds, about 200 in records audio cassette about 100 nothing compared to some ppl I bet,I love it,it makes me feel goon having this media from these artists good or bad it's memories when I bought them too, streaming is cool also good on the move though.
Hi Kenny, it doesn't matter what some people think or say. Why do I have many, many records? Because I want! Period. Blessings.
Amen 👏 l 😊 ✌️
I appreciate your opinion, thank you...Happy New Year ✌️
In the end there's no explanation needed beyond the fact you like it! It brings you happiness and takes nothing away from anyone else. I like to watch videos by people who appreciate music as much as you do. I learn so much and it always expands my horizons.
Keep doing your thing, Kenny, and we'll keep listening.
Thank you 😊 ✌️
Music is good for the soul!!! What a great hobby we have!!!!
Nice video Ken. Your collection is amazing. Keep up the good work and keep doing what you are doing.
Thank you very much 😊✌️
Amen Kenny. Enjoy collecting and enjoy music. It is soothing to the soul.
Thank you for sharing your comments 😊 ✌️
I'm almost your age and have been collecting LPs since I was a teenager. I estimate I have around 3000 LPs and a lot of CDs, too. It's a great hobby!
Great hobby for sure, thank you very much for sharing your comments 😊
Nice work Kenny. I'm 55 and remember when vinyl (and tapes) was literally the only way you could listen to what you want, when you want. Growing up with that, it becomes part of our DNA. Maybe that's the missing bit for some people. Loving the channel. Greetings from London, England.
And I remember when we called them, "records and tapes".
@@rcpsammy7186There was a time we called them drastic plastic but that might have been a dance music thing
Thank you Kenny! I’m up to 997 in my collection! But like you I was exposed to all different types of music from Rock, Pop, Blues, Funk, Soul, R&B, Reggae, Jazz, and Classical. The last few years though have mostly been Jazz and Blues.
Thank you 😊....its cool to enjoy a wide variety of music in those great genres ✌️
Kenny, I don't even know much about jazz but love your videos. I just enjoy how genuine your content is and can't understand why people would come here to comment unnecessary stuff. Sad people are everywhere in the internet, and I really think you shouldn't care about them.
hope you keep it up!
Thank you very much for that, I sincerely appreciate your comments and encouragement 😊 ✌️
It's great that black Americans mainly have their videos about Jazz and other black music. Respect
🙏 🙏 🙏 ....thank you ✌️
Onya Kenny. There is never a need to justify your passion, Dude. Those who question or cut you down, are simply envious of how you/us have such a passion for our interest. Maybe they just can’t find their own…Love your work! Cheers from Oz
Thank you very much for those comments, much appreciated ✌️
Cool 😎 ...I love those Technics Turntables 👍....thank you for finding my video and watching.
"Wide variety of choices", very well said. Sometimes I'm in the mood for surf guitar, 50s era jazz or my 12" singles from the 80s. I love it all!
Keep an open mind about life, your life and not let nobody's business but yours. PERIOD!!!!
I cant believe any self respecting music lover would be criticizing a cool dude like you Kenny, keep up the vids!
🙏 ...I appreciate that 💯, thank you very much 😊 ✌️
Hey Kenney you are preaching to the choir.
Thank you very much for sharing your comments and taking the time to watch my video 😊✌️
Hi, there, I agree, 200 vinyls aren't enough, but I suppose 2000 will be enough to myself. Greetings from Brazil.
Thank you very much for watching from Brazil 😊
Great video Kenny! You said it well. Having these records brings you happiness. I have around 3000 Lp’s and 3000 45’s they bring me happiness as well. My wife thinks it’s awesome I have a substantial collection.
Thank you very much 😊, I hope that you enjoy your collection and the music for many years ✌️
Oh yes definitely! I’m currently playing through my collection.
Kenny you should have 10,000. Get everything you want. Music is the love of my life. Plus you should listen to all kinds of music. Take Care
Thank you for that 😊, much appreciated 🙏 🎶
Thanks Kenny, I totally agree with your perspective on record collecting. It is about exploring the wide variety of genres and sub genres and the artists within them. Also having choices depending on what I feel like listening to is as you said an enjoyable part of the musical experience. It’s an amazing journey and your videos on Jazz have been exceptional so please keep up the great work.
Hey Kenny. Happy New Year. There is always people who have a problem with abundance and wonder why they can't find any. You do you, Brother.
I appreciate that 🙏 , thank you 😊...Happy New Year ✌️
Thank you for your video, for I am 69 years old and my path to vinyl records is the same as yours. I only have about 700 records, but I have collected records ever since 1967
It's absolutely A-OK to have something to do everyday that (To You) brings you to a place of harmless joy! very good for your soul.. and a healthy view of life.. 😔🦋🙏🎆🌹👍
I TOTALLY agree 💯 💯...well said 👏 👌
great video Kenny, I'm the same I can't have a low number of records, the more records you have the better! Happy New Year 🙂
A room with a collection that's "like Christmas." Perfect!
I hope you keep on collecting and enjoying the music 🎶...thank you for sharing your comments 😊 ✌️
luv your vids. i a little younger then you i am 60 years old. a jazz bass player. moved to new york in my twenties played the village gate in new york 1984 ray brown was there he told me you have great chops. but dont worry about the music just be you. great advice to this day i take it to heart
I appreciate your comments Luis, thank you very much for taking the time to post your comments and watching my video ✌️
It surprises me that people like yourself feel the need to justify their collection .
If it brings you pleasure then so be it.
Happy New Year from the UK.
Thank you for your comments 😊...Happy New Year ✌️
Great stuff Kenny and you're right its about choice and variety .I'm into classic rock, country, americana, heavy metal,Prog rock,soul,50's rock n roll ,Folk,Jazz and more.Something for every mood and occasion.
I appreciate your comments, thank you very much for watching and listening to what I had to say ✌️
Thank you very much, I appreciate your comments 😊...I have several Herbie Mann albums from the 60s as well, he was great for sure.
I totally agree on the variety reason. I just learned this year about the operetta music form, and learned it from buying old vinyl!
Peace. James
James, thank you very much for subscribing and watching my video from the UK. I appreciate your comments ✌️
Thanks.
Nice collection
Thank you very much ✌️
Again such an inspiring video of you speaking from the heart of our media interests.
Thank you very much 😊 ✌️ ....thank you for watching 😊
Nice Kenny! I love jazz also! I love listening to jazz vinyl! Keep up the great channel! Peace to you and yours.
Thank you very much 😊...I hope that you have a great New Year ✌️
Your collection is amazing! I don't know why people would judge you for collecting music. It's a healthy hobby (except for the wallet 😂).
I love all styles too. It's not good to be a purist in one style which is why Miles Davis is my favorite artist.
I have the same opinion about Miles Davis about his versatility and being open minded musically. Thank you for your comments 😊 🙏
My three reasons: I CAN'T STOP!
😁🤣
Hi Kenny. Thanks for the wonderful video. You are a good man. 👍
Thank you very much, I appreciate that 😊 🙏
Yes sir 100% - regarding time, that's a big factor once you've gotten to our age. I've often told folks that " ... well, I didn't buy them all at once" when they ask questions like these (I get asked about all my *smaller* collections of records or ballcaps or whatever).
Keep on doing things the way that you are... it is both enjoyable and informative.
May Christ be with you my man
Thank you very much ✌️, same to you 🙏
Great video!🙏
Thank you very much 😊
BTW, Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too 😊✌️
Bravo Kenny.
Happy New Year Kenny ! Greetings from Poland :)
Bro', love your video / videos. Dug your take on Miles as well, man. Well, you do what you do because you love what you do, that's what the records are for! Ya need it! Makes you feel good. 100% with you.
Thank you very much for your comments and the inspiration, much appreciated ✌️
I been collecting since1973 i agree with everything you say
Thank you very much 😊
same age here,,i got cds mini discs, recrods reel to rel, casettes,,,5000 units
9:30 - "Having it solves the problem of....being without it!"
Keep collecting Kenny👍 You have a realy good channel and learned me a lot. 💪
Thank you very much 😊 ✌️
Kenny, I'm 61 yrs young and agree with your perspective o music and listening to vinyl.
I would listen to you talk about movies Kenny! I bet it would be interesting!!
Happy New Year from Japan, Kenny!
I catch crap for owning upwards of 30 Steely Dan albums. Originals, new remasters, uhqr’s, 12” singles, colored Canadian vinyl etc. they are all special to me. People who do not collect, treat collectors like hoarders. Great content as always Kenny. ✌🏼
That’s a big collection Kenny you cover the waterfront! Lol
😊😁🎶
Please continue reviewing Jazz.
Thank you very much for posting your comments...I love books as well 😊
I would love to hear you review movies that have a strong Jazz theme or soundtrack.
Kenny can you talk about the jazz artists of yesteryear as compared to today, I like the mainstream jazz of the 50's 60's and 70's, but I also like a lot of the contemporary jazz of today. I do think the artists of yesteryear had a better mastery of their instruments however.
