    The only way this ending with Tom Hanks' friends reinforcing his delusions could've worked is if the movie was called "OF Mazes and Monsters".
    "Glacia, tell me about the gorvilles again..."

    15:04 it just hit me how inflammatory the movie is, accusing James Dallas Egbert III of being nothing more than a glory seeker wanting to find immortality by suddenly disappearing and raising an eternal mystery about himself like Jack the Ripper or Amelia Earhart.
    or...maybe the kid was struggling with his own personal problems, particularly with coping with the pressures he had as a child prodigy.
    sure the movie is pure fiction, but why else would they write the expy for Edgert with that monologue in mind?

    I remember playing D&D at lunch time in school. This was at the height of the D&D hysteria and in a heavily religious rural area. :) We used to take the free book covers the school handed out for out text books and put them on the D&D books to hide them from others.

    i love this movie. this film is to gamers what "reefer madness" is to stoners. and it has the opposite of the intended effect. i know very few people who have even heard of this movie, but every single one that has says it only heightened their interest in D&D, a few of them being shown this movie by their parents in an attempt to scare them away from the game. one of them later got into larp and said the movie gave him the desire to do so.

    One game I was DM in, the players secretly conspired to kill another player. After that player was murdered by them, he was raised as a lich and made commander of an army and marched against the players. That was an interesting end to the campaign.
    Then they all rolled new characters and we started a new campaign

    I know what this is like my mother flat out refused to allow me to play rpgs like WoW for fear I’d lose touch with reality and that’s because she grew up in the era of D&D based fear and there’s was also the Rod Ferrell killings that happened when I was five. I'm likely reading way too much into this, but I always got the feeling that J.J. intentionally killed his character as a way of prefacing his idea about LARPing their Mazes and Monsters game and possibly using it as a cry for help in regards to his suicidal thoughts. I just can't shake the feeling that he had every intention of possibly dying in those caverns himself. I haven't seen this movie and I don't plan to, so I recognize that I'm probably completely and utterly wrong on this one.

    • @JimmyJohn89808
      @JimmyJohn89808 18 днів тому +1

      Yes, I do know this is an old comment, but I think that works, and if he did die in the caverns during that LARPing session, he would have his group see it and with them telling what happened when they got back, it would spread like he wanted it to.

    - Yes, Mimosín is what the Snuggles bear is called in Spain. :)
    - In Spanish, when you describe something as "Germanic", you use the word "germánico", indeed.
    - Yes, you are very right. I remembered you helping me, and instead of looking it up, I tried to recall what you said. One of those situations where you hesitate between two options and you go for the wrong one. Never mind. xD

    Just wondering, you do know that at 4:13, the Snuggles bear is the mascot of the Snuggles brand of laundry fabric softener, right? I have no idea what Mimosin is, is that a Spanish product?

    20:58 Don't you remember when I helped with Skullduggery? It's "I don't know, I can't remember."

God it feels like we're back in the 1990's with this crazy crap.
      I swear, these SJWs are acting exactly like the paranoid christian conservatives of yesteryear when it comes to gamers. It's like they tried so hard to get away from their parents that they essentially became them.
      This isn't surprising, because this morality that the SJWs push is simply nothing more than a secularized version of Christian Morality. With them as the good people and anyone else as the evildoers.

    Why is "LARPing" even considered a thing? It's called playing pretend; every kid does it. Really doubt calling it the former gives it any more dignity.

    • @MagicalMaster

      +Captain Boo Bear Larping is also a metric ton of fun if you're playing the right game with some good people. Try any Changeling game and watch the amazing chaos unleash!

      +Captain Boo Bear I'm guessing a group of adult gamers are unlikely to to call up the group to go 'play pretend' so they had to give it a slightly better name. :)

      You'll find out that most of the games that people are so terrified of are just our childhood play with a lot more rules to make it fair. In fact... that applies to everything we play, sports included.

      Foster Davies-Smith Is real LARPING anything like that "Supernatural" episode "LARP and the Real Girl" or that movie where a bunch of them fight real demons or whatever (blanking on the name)?

    • @ArthurRex131
      @ArthurRex131 9 років тому

      +Chris McWilliams The Knights of Badassdom. And it depends on the LARP. The ones that are big and have lots of players can get to be like that.
