MIND GAMES
We're playing those mind games together
Pushing the barriers, planting seeds
Playing the mind guerrilla
Chanting the mantra 'Peace On Earth'
We all been playing those mind games forever
Dome kinda druid dude lifting the veil
Doing the mind guerrilla
Some call it magic - the search for the grail
Love is the answer and you know that for sure
Love is a flower you got to let it, you got to let it grow
So keep on playing those mind games together
Faith in the future out of the now
You just can't beat on those mind guerillas
Absolute elsewhere in the stones of your mind
Yeah we're playing those mind games forever
Projecting our images in space and in time
'Yes' is the answer - and you know that for sure
Yes is surrender - you got to let it, you got to let it go
So keep on playing those mind games together
Doing the ritual dance in the sun
Millions of mind guerillas
Putting their Soul Power to the karmic wheel
Keep on playing those mind games forever
Raising the spirit of peace and love
Love
I want you to make love not war
I know you've heard it before
I want you to make love not war
I know you've heard it before

Ken Ascher: Mellotron, Hammond organ
David Spinozza: guitar

Recorded at Record Plant NY NY
From the album Mind Games (1973).
ABOUT THE FILM
On 15 November 1974, a BBC film crew for 'Old Grey Whistle Test', spent a day filming with John around Central Park and various other locations in New York, to make a video for the song "Whatever Gets You Thru The Night", directed by John. The video was never broadcast, but a small amount of the footage emerged as a very short edit for the song “#9 Dream” in February 1975.
In 2003, for the Lennon Legend DVD release, Yoko Ono purchased all the original camera film reels at auction, which were very aged and damaged from decay and scratching and, working with film editor Simon Hilton, cleaned them up and assembled this incredibly charismatic narrative of John, obviously greatly enjoying himself on a beautiful sunny autumnal day out in New York.
'That was a fun track because the voice is in stereo and the seeming orchestra on it is just me playing three notes with slide guitar. And the middle eight is reggae.'

It's amazing how a person that i don't even know , that died 17 years before i was born could saved my life , thanks mr Lennon , R.I.P.
:^)
I was born the day The Beatles broke up. My dad 18 was their greatest fan. So I grew up with the music. I was 10 when John was killed. And his death hit me hard. Changed my religion. How u ask? I was a Catholic in Catholic school I arrived that day in tears my nun said dont cry for a man who thought he was more than god...his words were twisted by media he never said it but it lead me to explore other Faith's. I couldn't even at 10 be a part of hate.

Amazing bassline and the slide guitar “orchestra” played by John
This song also seems strange to me, that sound so from the 60s and 70s, so tragic, his voice so strange in this song, with tranquility and at the same time suspense, a song like from a dream where you sleep deeply and you travel in the dream and unreality. Although I was born in 1989, those 70s seem untouchable, the people there were superhuman, very far from my reality, it is such a strange feeling.
@@josiahwhit5730 Nice description. I feel like Lennon himself was in some ways living through a dream from the mid-70s on. Trying to live something like a normal life in the present, trying to figure out what to do, who to be. But always with the truly extraordinary -- almost cosmic -- legacy of the Beatles looming over him. This and Dream Number 9 capture that dreamlike feeling of being suspended between the 60s past and some difficult-to-imagine future.
We miss you John..it's been far to long.
43 years 12/8/1980.
I was a 7yr old up sick with strep throat. Mom was giving me hot tea with honey, lemon (and a little brandy in it) to help me sleep. Dad was watching Monday night football because The Patriots where playing.
I remember Howard Cosell announcing it over the game... I thought i was in a daze because the tea kicked in. I never payed attention to the news back then, our world was much smaller, this was Before MTV, CNN etc.
I remember watching the news and seeing all the people around the Dakota. I remember the memorial they had a few days later in Central Park, right where Strawberry Fields is. I could not believe all the people there.. it definitely changed/effected my outlook in life and how I look at the world in general..

I wish this day had never been.
John, despite his human flaws, which can easily be traced back to his early childhood,
essentially had a loving heart which he wanted to share with the world, so that he, and us ,
could feel more as One. And ultimately, he had the resolve to evolve and try to become
a better human being. John had the courage to bare his tormented soul for all to witness,
and it is this very essence that resonates so profoundly til this very day.
What an amazing gift. Thank You, Johnny!
Spot on! No more words needed!
@MrJobofo I don’t pretend to know your story, but I was abandoned, and suffered greatly. In my life, I have chosen forgiveness and empathy , as I believe Julian has. Peace.
@MrJobofo fuxk Julian he hates his father but he still publishes photos of his father on Instagram to get more likes and goes to interviews because they pay him to talk about his father. Fuxk that xhit. There's only one beautiful boy and that's Sean Lennon ✌
Look, John Lennon DID have a unique soul. But the more unique they are for better or for worse they can cause harm even when they do good. Julian unfortunately was in the crossfire of that when he saw him as more of a chain so he does deserve to use his legacy considering how he was basically disinherited in the will. I'm not going out against either because I like John Lennon's work but you have to admit that Julian was kinda screwed
@@johnrainone1262 John was screwed, as you say, Julian was screwed, I was screwed, and from your sentiment it sounds like you were screwed too. Everyone gets screwed sometimes throughout their lives, but it is the power of Love and Forgiveness that ultimately frees and heals us from such pain. Julian has made his peace with his Father, to the point where he can actually comprehend the behavior that John himself identified as horrible. I hope that you, and anyone who has experienced such trauma, can also find peace and forgiveness in their hearts and minds as Julian has. Peace.

I'm sitting here thinking back, remembering 1974. How the world was slower. Me, spending summer days with live music in the park. Having a beer, smoking a joint under a willow tree while a gentle breeze assured me everything will be okay. Hanging out with friends in person. Now it's by phone or 6 feet apart. The breeze is no longer gentle. It brings smoke from California wildfires. I can still have a beer and smoke a joint but it will take 20 years to rebuild the global economy. The best years of our generation will remain behind us. [Unless we do something about it.]

Yes, it really is terribly sad. I am sure he enjoyed every little bit of happiness while he could however, with his family and doing what he loved/had to do on this earth, he was an intelligent man and evidently learnt how valuable these things are in life.
Lennon was one of those extremely rare individuals that when he was alive you probably were never going to meet in person but just knowing he was out there somewhere being John Lennon made you feel better about Life...& when he was taken away so abruptly one could really feel that the Forces of Good ( i know that sounds corny) had taken a serious hit on the Psychic Plane - someone could probably describe it better than that but there was a real tangible sense that Things Had Changed Big Time and Not for the Better Too..hope that made sense...the loss of Lennon still reverberates 43 years later all over the world.

I remember watching Monday Night Football 40 years ago today, December 8, 1980. The Miami Dolphins vs The New England Patriots. I remember rooting for one team, although I cant remember which, because it had some sort of potential playoff implications for my Buffalo Bills. Towards the end of the regulation game, a scroll came across the bottom of the screen saying a former Beatle had been shot in NYC. It didn't say who, or what kind of physical condition they were in. Immediately, I thought of Paul McCartney. Paul had been busted for Marijuana possession in Japan earlier that year, and although improbable, the only thing I could think of was maybe some kind of drug deal gone bad. I remember hoping he'd be okay. Then, a short while later, Howard Cosell interrupted the game and said it was John Lennon, that he had been shot in the back, that he was rushed to the hospital, and that he was pronounced dead on arrival. I remember standing up from my chair in disbelief. All of a sudden, this game that meant so much to me only moments earlier meant absolutely nothing. The impact of knowing the Beatles would never, ever reunite was overwhelming. And that a man of peace was so brutally gunned down for no apparent reason was really unbearable at the time. My heart goes out to his family on this sad anniversary. Rest in Peace John Lennon.

I have absolutely no idea why I woke up at 4 am with an incredible urge to hear this song! Mind games I guess...
Because no one comes close.

This and Instant Karma are my fav Lennon songs!
Great taste x
This video of John Lennon singing is amazing and I personally want to watch it over and over again.
Is that all …ru sure
How could somebody write such masterpiece?
There is something about Lennon's songs that mmake me feel so nostalgic, it gives me a feeling that I miss living the years I never experienced (60's and 70's).
1973
He was beyond genius, for me he was the closest thing to a prophet we will ever see
Your right you know ! Theres just something special about his songs!
@@margaretskinner6972 I completely agree, there was something so special, something magical about his songs and if more people listened to his lyrics and his message without trying to overanalyse it, the world could be a better place.
@@j.c7719 Because he sang with feelings?
I was 9 months old when he died...never met him... and yet here I am...genuinely loving the man ...thank you for your music dear John, you still live in all of us.
I was 9. His death scarred me. I will never be over it.
I was 13 years old..
Those people are so lucky to be able to spend time with Lennon the legend
Honestly he was really a schmuck and a horrible person in real life. According to many people who knew him. Sorry if im breaking your bubble

my father in law met all the beatles 3 times when they played local town halls with the likes of the stones kinks etc the animals all for pennies what a time it must of been .. he has all the original Beatles albums
Where are all those people I wonder why none of these people comments on this video surely they have seen it
It looked like he was attempting to lip sync, but after the first three words he gave up.
Love the "doing the mind guerilla" metafor
..brilliant description of the battle & conflict of the mind we go through. ☮️
One of the most influential human beings of the 20th Centuryij
True
Yes, this is true!
John Lennon died 20 years before the 20th century
Harry the profile picture is Hilarious lmao
If you combine with Paul, George Martin and George Harrison (Ringo was not), I would say he was the most. He shaped Western culture in a way that impact us even today. Europe and USA fashion, music, culture, cinema, design, and even youth behaviour would be totally different if they had not become famous. Western music was following a path of shallowness (Four Seasons, Beach Boys, Supremes, Everly Brothers) that are good music, and only someone from the inside like the beatles could change Pop music and with that the world. I have so many examples.
God! What a beautiful man, full of love and wisdom and poetry. His message, his energy, his light and life are always with us. They can kill the prophet but he is is definitely not dead in our hearts. 'Love IS the answer' - he knew and told us - 40 years ago.
Absolutely ❤️
Well said! Long life and legacy to human beings like John Lennon and Yoko Ono, those who dedicate/d their time, talent and intelligence to make us all grow as a race, showing us a different way for the benefit of countless generations ahead. Let's hope that such kind and loving hearts will keep on coming, and that by some chance, someday we'll have the opportunity to thank John if he's out there somewhere.
As a child I was taught John Lennon was an angel. As a teenager I learned john Lennon had his demons. As an adult I realised John Lennon''s angelic songs and Demonic side made him into masterpiece his music and he was. RIP
Well said
That was well said he was in the very best group and the way he wrote music was only matched by one other person Paul
nailed it. We are all imperfect. John Lennon used his weakness. That's the lesson
He was being honest and genuine. No artist today could show its demonic side to people. John is a brave and a good guy.
me too
What a handsome, delightful man. I love seeing him with those kids. He looks so kind. I know he had his moments, he wasn't always nice, but this song and this video picks out the best of him.
How could it be that 4 young boys just happened to get together in Liverpool and change the world?
That is a bit of a myth. Yes, he was a provocateur, a rebel, he could rile you up. He also wouldn´t bullshit, so he could be brutally honest. But by most accounts of what he was like in private says he was very sweet and humane.
He was docile from bein high n all the domestic abuse he suffered from ono 🌈
Makes me happy seeing him having a great day.
Me too, and his wearing his Elvis button!!!!!!!
difficult to even imagine visiting NYC in the seventies, and just seeing John Lennon walking around.
Very foolish and naive of him. Evil was all around (and still is). Evil only understands one thing: DEATH PENALTY. Listen up, New Yorkers. You are WEAK, compared to your ancestors.
David Brown Keep playing your mind games, brother

fortunate me,...i worked in NYC in the 70's....in a cab, i saw what looked maybe like John...and snapped! It is him with Yoko and Sean....amazing

This hurts deeply. It cuts my soul. What a genius. Gone too soon.
I wish he'd took security more seriously especially at the time of his shooting when new York was very violent.

I stood outside the Dakota one day when he was still alive, but not in town and I sobbed for over an hour non-stop. Not because he was supposedly in Japan, but because I was so close and breathing the same air. He has had a profound affect on me and I still can't completely explain why.
That's powerful. Thank you for sharing that memory and moment.
@cboyle707
Since argon is a component of air, actually 20 times more abundant than carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, every atom of argon that we inhale are then exhaled essentially unchanged and goes back into circulation.
In every breath we take, we inhale and exhale 10¹⁸ atoms of argon.
These atoms, remain in the atmosphere essentially unchanged, to be inhaled again and again throughout time.
It is certain, therefore, that in every breath you take, you have inhaled at least several atoms of argon that have also been inhaled by Einstein, and Newton before him, Mohammad, Christ, and John Lennon etc.
So even in his absence from your proximity , you may well have breathed in some Argon which was once in John Lennon's lungs
We are all connected this way❤
