back in the early 70's my then boyfriend, now husband, while living in New York, as a struggling musician, had a rare opportunity to have a car, and we were taking to Rhode Island for a weekend. As we were leaving the city, we saw John Lennon and a companion, hailing a cab. We asked if he needed a lift, he agreed and we took him to the Dakota. It was probably the most THRILLING day of my life. He was gracious unpretentious, and humble and twice as handsome in person. My boyfriend/husband chit chatted with him about music and the last thing he said as we dropped him and his friend off, was...."if I ever need a mad musician I will call you gary," My boyfriend/husband, had given him our phone number. I did say a few words to him while he was in THE BACK SEAT OF OUR CAR!!!!! but, being the BIGGEST BEatle fan in the WORLD, as a young teenager, I was in a state of shock.

Back in 1980, I bumped into John by chance at the Carlton Hotel in Johannesburg. He was coming down on the escalator and I was going up. I was completely stunned as he passed! I went straight back down and found him in the hotel foyer, talking to two other people. I asked the concierge for a pen and John signed an autograph for me before going outside and climbing into a waiting car. It was all so surreal!

This song is attached to one of the very few memories I have of my Dad. He died a month before I turned five, so I do mean very few. He played it for me because my older brother had done something to me to make me cry, i have no idea what. He explained that he would just get jealous sometimes and that he doesn't mean to hurt me and make me cry. It's been 31 years since we lost him and when I hear this song it still takes me back to that moment with my Daddy trying to make me feel better and assuring me that my big brother still loved me ❤️❤️❤️

This was written in India in 1968, the original song was called Child of Nature (available on youtube) and it was John's "B Side" to Paul's Mother Nature's son. It's his best solo song because it was written during his Beatles days. For the White Album in particular.

Very beautiful deep and moving song. When John was killed on 12/8/80 it was almost unbearable to me. What makes me more sad and emotional is my grandmother died the same year and at the time I mourned Johns loss more than my grandmother, she raised me the first three years of my life and my Omi and Opa were very poor living in a very old house in Austria, I think about that a lot.

In 2019, I met a man who showed me a lot of beautiful songs, and this is one of them. We've been together for 3 years... After we broke up, he sent me a message telling me he loved me and would like to see me. I never answer. So, in the past month, we lost him to suicide. Hearing this makes me feel a little close to him. I still love you and I miss you so much.

There is an interview of Cynthia Lennon to be seen somewhere, where she said John hit her once because she spoke to some other guy. She said she had nothing to do with him for 3 months, she would not speak to him. But he kept calling and writing to her apologizing and begging her to forgive him.Eventually she did. I am convinced this song came from that incident. It is so deeply heartfelt and and sad. My favorite Lennon song, maybe my favorite song.😪
