@@EverlastingEclipses bro we need to know if its shit or not!
I ran into a guy with one of these while I was on my 49cc moped. We went for a quick ride then he let me try it out. The thing has crazy torque! I weigh 223 and it had no trouble rocketing up to the speed limit... And then some. A bit overpriced for my budget and the reliability of a 4 stroke is where I'm at.
Finally! I've been waiting so long for this review. Thank you 🙏
Dude I am tripping out. I seen this bike several times owned by a gal who goes to the same gym I do. She would park it by the front window so it could be seen and lock it to a tree. I told her I liked her electric bike and asked some questions about it. She said she was one of the investors in the company when they were building it up; and that she got the bike at cost etc' just assumed it was another mom & pop electric bike in the vain of the Super 73 & the Rose Ave' Etc' I wrote her off as an air head when I asked her "so whats the top speed?" And she said "60" I figured right then she has no idea what she was talking about and now here I am seeing this for the first time! Now I want one!!!! lol.
I too was an early backer of the bike and company and love seeing what they've accomplished in the past year and a half growing now to 2 locations in California. She wasn't kidding. instagram.com/p/Bw_nCFEg5GA/
Hell yeah, 4k is nothing compared to long term maintenance on a vehicle or comparable moped.
Especially if you’re just city traveling this is perfect.
The 60 MPH he attained was downhill. I'd guess the true top speed is approx 40-45 MPH max.
@@millennial_weeb2382 True.. but a car will go on for many many years. This bike.. when the batteries reach end of life, it'll cost an arm and a leg to replace them.
@@NRGZ28 What are you talking about?
Just buy a new battery, you’ll still save on the average cost of yearly maintenance not to mention insurance costs like what?
Wow, Onyx earned a fan on this one! Impressive design + an American company. We really need to get behind more stuff like this
Finally an actual review on the onyx😭😭🤘🏻 by the way bought the ride 1 up 500 series tnx to you!!! Next is the onyx 😁👍🏻
Impressive little ride. Once it gets more affordable and battery is proven we may just order a pair of these.

@@chibba5418 any videos on sticking an electric bike together? I'm an absolute beginner..
@@jacobsutton3815 You should get an E-Bike Conversion kit. Look for one with a 48v 1500W controller and motor. You'll also need to get a battery, preferably a 48V 1500w Li-ion battery or better (battery, controller, and motor should be the same volts). You can go for a 36V set up (which is cheaper), but your top speed, acceleration, and battery life will be lower.
Once you have that, just look up E-Bike Conversion kit and you'll find a bunch of videos on the assembly, plus your assembly kit will probably have its own instructions.

Not a grey area at all.
Its a electric motorcycle because it goes over 30mph...
@@brianmccann666 Secret switch press... 'no, officer... It was the wind pushing me, here, try it for your self'... See 20mph 😂
@@brianmccann666 It also exceeds the 2 BHP limit for mopeds, and it's lacking any of the required safety equipment to be a road legal motorcycle (DOT approved headlight, brake light, turn signals, rear view mirror). (And folks always be prepared to just

Great video, thanks for being thorough and upfront about the range limitations! I think onyx nearly nailed it with the RCR - finally some decent power to make it an actual personal transportation vehicle that can safely keep up with traffic. I'll probably try the QS motor on my next build bc of this bike. My biggest concern about the cool retro cafe racer frame style is the 'bikeability'. They need to design a way to adjust the seat for proper rider geometry. Or maybe consider removing the pedals? Pegs would be more comfortable but you'd lose the active transport / human assist side of it. The scooter wheels and tires are a great idea too, much more rugged and puncture resistant than a fatbike setup.
@Martyr4JesusTheChrist yeah I'm not worried about the definition of moped, my point about the frame is that it's geometry is obviously not designed to be comfortably pedaled for medium to long distances. This will cause mulitple issues over time; lower back, knee, hip, shoulder and neck pain. They should either make the seat height adjustable like the new Rad power bike or just ditch the cranks and make an e-moto or whatever you want to call it. Also the main reason they added little cranks to classic mopeds was bc they were unreliable and underpowered. They were there only to start the motor, help climb a steep hill or as backup if the motor fails. These should be a non issue for the QS motor.
Great video, thanks Micah! I really want to ride one of these now.
Then your a dunce. You are an advertisers dream. I can't wait for one of these to set itself on fire while running at full speed. Start cleaning the rubbish out of the gene pool

Why stop there? Why not just move to China and make it even cheaper!
@@quarterburnt because China is a horrible country? And production in the US should be a top priority.
I can agree any state out of California is better to Small Business
Vincent Pellegrini Huh?
What kinda’ve argument is that, this is a small business first foremost.
Second if one state is being excessive with it’s taxes/regulations & it’s straining your business. An alternative is simply to move, I mean Elon Musk is moving TESLA out of CA simply because of how officials are running businesses out of CA.
Many people live in certain states because of taxes alone & it’s a non brainer for a business of this caliber.

Made in the USA. Amazing quality and amazing customer service while trying to buy. Cabt wait to get mine!
In Australia it rated as a electric motorcycle and for riding on the streets registration and insurance would be a must.
Electric bicycles would need to be pedaled to gain the power and not accessing the power by a flick of the switch.
Love the RCR model.
The conversation with the LEO will greatly depend on where they catch you riding it and how they catch you riding it, and if you're wearing a helmet, and how old you are. Then having a motorcycle license would probably help.
Question is can you take your skills test on it? If not then you can't get an M endorsement so what can LEO say?

As a current owner I feel like everyone should know that the top speed of 60 MPH isn't really achievable. The bike real world top speed is 50 MPH. I never seen anything faster on my speedometer. I've calibrated and compared it with tachometer (physical data) and GPS to validate my results. In order to achieve the top speed on this is like getting to the top speed on a Bugatti. You got know the secrets and have the utmost perfect conditions to go any faster. Tons of people will flame me on the comments but look up the "ONYX Motorbikes Group" on FB and you will other users who have that same issue. Random question: this thing isn't named in honor of Mr. Regular, is it?
In city, keep it on eco or normal mode and keep the speed at city limits and PEDAL. This can still pass as an electric "bike" if you function it as such. Cops wouldnt know.
As soon as u see a cop . Lower speed and pedal and act like ur so tired pedaling lol

@@Charmander009 I bet there's no VIN number to even register it so it's a bicycle, legally.
@@f4jsh 🤣
@@KennyRider137 in CA you can still register it without a VIN just like you can if you put a 4 or 2 stroke engine on a normal bike. Plus you have to stay at 30mph or you can be ticketed for speeding even if the speed limit is over 30 on the road... because 30mph is the fastest a moped is legally allowed to go without being registered as a motor driven cycle and require a full motorcycle license. If it is a moped you just need a M2 and still be registered.

Hot... Hot... Hot... 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow, looks just about perfect. I hope they eventually sell another version as a full on motorcycle and just ditch the pedals. There's no way I'd get away with that around here as an ebike. Even as a moped I'd have to plate and register it and technically still only allowed max 20 MPH and 1 horsepower. Having foot pegs or a floor board on the step through model would be much more comfortable anyway.
The designers of the Onyx made it to be a modder, it's super easy to swap out the pedals for pegs, a bunch of people have done it. You can register it as a moped and ride freely on the streets
@@ryanhunt7052 Good to know about swapping out the pedals. Registering it as a moped in my state only allows for 20 MPH though. If it came with a VIN and MSO, I'd just register it as a motorcycle.
Ron Tropics It’s 30 for mopeds and 20 for electric bikes
@@burgerman101 Ohio law is pretty clear on this unfortunately. "total power output of at most 1 horsepower

Best Biker Yes?
You’re aware products only reach mainstream status when they are actually bought?
Peter goes to Hollywood Yes... but also when they are made in mass. Right now only small pop up companies are making them. And Harley. When Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, and all the other big brands start making them they will truly be mainstream and truly be bought more.
Tesla should make an ebike. Make it cheap as hell and dominate the market like Ford did. And then once he has the consumer base, he can release more luxurious, high performance models.

No your not paying for a bike
You’re paying for an e-bicycle
And for 4k, just get a 600
What is a 600?
JasonWW2000 a 600cc motorcycle. Typically referring to an A2 category bike between 400cc and 650/700cc but not a litre bike
@@ryanm.191 Oh, that's a completely different type of vehicle. You cant compare ice to electric. If all you care about is cost, stick to gas. Electric bikes have a ways to go before they get their costs down.
JasonWW2000 e bikes are better imo, I prefer them. I love the sound the efficiency the power etc etc. But this isn’t an eBike. This is an ebicycle. It doesn’t have that motorbike look or style and literally has pedals. And due to that fact, 4 grand is simply not worth it, way too much money for way too little when there are much better options for much less money. so that’s why I said buy a 600 or spend the cash on a zero fx or something
@Pilot Omaha It's simple, just start your own business, lease some property, hire some employees, buy the parts, have your employees assembled it, buy some advertising, pay all the legal fees and before you know it, you have to sell it for $4,000 just to make any kind of profit. This should be common sense. If you have the time, knowledge and mechanical ability to assemble all the parts and build it yourself, of course you can do it cheaper. Why do you think so many people are building their own electric bikes and motorcycles? Because it's way cheaper. This is called cutting out the middleman.
Very cool video thank you
What's the max Cycles of Charge for the ONYX Battery?
cant call it a moped with 60mph xD
It's real top speed is 50 mph. I haven't seen anything higher on my speedometer, gps, or tachometer. Still faster than the most mopeds that top out around 35 mph.
It might make sense where you live but where I live mopeds are restricted by law to 30mph so it would have to be registered as a motorcycle. And if I have to do that 60mph is a handicap not a feature
The biggest issue is its a grey area ebike or moped.
Its a class 2 ebike in eco. It can pass for a moped in normal but sport is motorcycle status. Thats fine with me I test rode it and normal is PLENTY for me, sport was crazy.
Biggest issue is legality, it lacks turn signals, mirrors and other parts to register it as a moped such as a vin number.
Right now its underground so most people dont know about it but if it ever becomes mainstream I can easily see karens lobbying to ban these. Especially since Ive seen all the videos of people blowing past stop signs on 40 mph.
