  • The ONYX RCR has been my daily commuter for 2 weeks now. This video shows my usual 6 mile ride home from work.

    Curious which phone mount you have, it seems to be hanging on to both your bike and your phone pretty well on some of those bumps.

    Thank you. I'm still paying some debt so I can buy one. Also gives me time to buy the one with higher capacity battery. Word on the street is they'll have one available sometime in October.

    I turned my mongoose hitch fatbike into a ebike i use it for postmates. So worth it ebikes rock

      Great. I now have 2500 miles on the original bike and 500 miles on the new one that my girls rides.

    When you ride, do you allow cars to have the right a away? Looking to get one, but there is such a back order. Great presentation.

      Yes, I give cars their proper respect but I also want them to see me at all times so I ride more like a motorcycle in the regular lanes.

      ive only been caught twice by rain and both times visability was the biggest problem. face mask fogs up. i just slow down and pray. lol

    Do you have to have it registered or insured have a plate ot any thing ?

      It depends on where you live. Ive spoken to several officers here in Nashville and they view it as a bike that doesn't have to be registered.

    Nice quiet ride...and VERY quick acceleration! You hit 53 mph. Is that the top speed or will it go faster? This is electric bike right? Does it require registration? I have a 6000w electric scooter and tops out at 55 mph lol.

      don't need to register, however some have registered their onyx as a moped for insurance purposes.

      @@tbone2123 The agent will ask you if you have a insurance or not. Just say Yes. Usually they will not ask any further as they are not there to interrogate you. But if they do ask what insurance just pick one, Geico.

      @@tbone2123 just the opposite. They register so they can get insurance. A lot of these bike are targets for thieves.

      Most days I bring it inside to charge up. I do have 2 combination locks for when I leave it outside.

      IMO the bike is too heavy to pedal. I ran out of battery and tried to pedal home and almost died. Lol. My bike took 92 days to be delivered from the order date.

    Does it handle and drive like Motorcycle or a bicycle? As in on my 1200cc motorbike if I want to turn right I push forward on my right handlebar and lean into it naturally. From what I can gather from these videos it still handles like a bicycle and maybe dirt bike.

      id say motorcycle just from the weight. turn radius is decent but im not comfortable with high speed cornering.

      I think they don't need any as of rn because they have pedals , but I'm guessing they'll change that later on two wheel viechles that go faster than 20mph . The ebike also has a Vin number so they're ready if the law changes.

    do you need protective gear for those type of speed? would a bike helmet suffice? that is fast 50mph

      I usually wear a Daytona helmet that is DOT approved and motorcycle glasses.

      @@michaelmaynard1 Nice ride bro! I'd recommend a motorcycle jacket, denim or kevlar jean pants and maybe some riding footwear (they make boots and sneakers too). Road rash is the worst and broken bones can suck too.

    Do you need a motorcycle license?

      it will vary from state to state but if you plan on going full speed and using all the lanes like this guy did, you'd probably be best getting a motorcycle license just to be safe, even if you have it registered as a moped. but if you only drive on back roads and bike trails at relatively low speeds then you'll be fine.

      Im well over 1000 miles on this bike. There is always risk but I know my limits and the bikes at this point.

      It really depends on the state and city that you live in. In some states, it would register and a full on motorcycle but in states with big metro areas like NYC, LA, SF, etc, its classified as an ebike.

      standard, i plan on getting dirt tires cause standard has zero traction in loose gravel or grass. if you plan on off roading at all, get the dirt kit.

      @@michaelmaynard1 but wouldn't DRT kit mess up your tires traction for the street? Such as hitting tough road dips and cracks at high speeds? [53+] i watched you jump over that railroad track at high speed and was impressed by the onyx ability to not swindle out and become unstable.

      @@midorian12491 good question. several guys in the onyx facebook group use the dirt tires in the city and claim great stability and equal performance. Im definitely gonna check it out this winter.

      @@Sammywhammy773 one of the guys in the facebook group lowered both pedals to fit his frame. If you sit to back of seat, you should be fine. Ive ridden 900 miles since August 3rd.

      @@michaelmaynard1 i travel that road all the time .. you started out right there at clarksville highway.......i live off old hickory dickerson road .....i like to pedal my bike all the time and everyday i ride up that pass the school make the right turn onto Clarksville highway all the way up to old hickory and right turn back to whites creek pike......i knew were you was when i saw you coming down buena vista pike........
