3:02 - 3:20 spoilers So that’s why scar tried to kill Simba, to try and get in love with the queen, which he does try to get her to be his queen in the movie.
It's actually quite accurate in that sense. He kills the Alpha Male and attempts to remove the cub. If the cub is strong enough, it can just run away where it grows up on its own until it is strong enough to challenge another pride for leadership.
I remember reading recently that the "fact" that cannibalism is a regular part of praying mantis mating is incorrect. Yes the female will eat the male if she is hungry enough, but more often then not the male is able to live and mate another day. This myth comes from studies on captive specimens, where they were kept in close proximity to each other and the male was unable to escape due to the confines of their container. So yes, praying mantises are cannibals but it isn't a normal part of their courting behavior like the australian red-backed spider.
Thank you! It’s always so, so important to keep in mind that what we see happen between individual animals in captivity may not always be the case for other, free-roaming individuals-If I remember correctly, one Portuguese study found that under natural, wild conditions, a mere 25-30% of male European mantids are eaten by their partners.
@K- potato: The problem is that the Human Social Structures will penalize that behavior. So it would be a net-penalty to your competitiveness. That and we are a bit beyond animals, so "Animals do it" is not really an excuse. Because even they do not do it all the time.
