Count Mikhail Loris-Melikov was the hero of the Caucasus campaign of this war. He was an Armenian noble, and the front lines in the Caucasus were comprised entirely of Armenians. The Congress of Berlin decided to ignore the Armenians and not grant them the independence they fought for, unlike how they did for the Balkan states. Had the great powers not ignored the Armenian Question, the Armenian Genocide would have never happened.

I'm British and I'm really fucking annoyed that the British government at the time was too scared that Russia would gain too much power to let them take Constantinople and allow for more local rule in the Balkans. The Crimean War and British support of the Japanese in the Russo-Japanese War were the same bullshit. Should have sent the British fleet to help conquer Constantinople.

UK develop a foreign policy relationship with Saudi Arabia before WW1 to target the Ottoman Empire's downfall while being anti-Russia at the same time i.e. refer to "The Great Game".
UK foreign policy was adopted by the US after WW2.
Trump wanted the US to break away from UK foreign policy, hence a foreign policy conflict with UK. Increase US oil production was US long term goal to break away from one aspect from UK foreign policy. IF Russia is wise, they should help the US to break away from UK foreign policy.
Vietnam war was US foreign policy support for French interest i.e. France invited US into South Vietnam.
Without the French foreign policy factor, US is developing a warmer relationship with Vietnam.
Two problems was due to US supporting European "old world" foreign policies. The founders of US has warned to not get involve with "old world" foreign policies.

beachbum111111 Yes and it was their biggest mistake. Constant guerrilla warfare, attack on supply lines and rebellions stopped the mongol's expansion into the rest of Europe. The battle at the Kulikovo fields when their entire army was defeated was the last straw. They just couldn't take any more and the expansion was stopped never again to be resumed at a large scare.
Still it is commendable. The Mongols are the only ones that came close to destroying the Russians.

My point, go through any countries history you are going to find a time where they really fucked up.

Younan Younan I said that if you look at any other country's history you are going to find a time where they fucked up. I meant that as no country is innocent. So no I do not hate Russians or anyone else for that matter. That is kind of my point actually... I don't get the hate on the Turks. People are trying to paint this angle of trying to make the Turks as the bad guys, and the Russians as the good guys. You can't paint an entire history of ones country as good or evil. It would be like me saying you are evil because of the Neo-Assyrian Empire as they were doing things that today are considered evil, but it was actually the norm during their time.

Valahia, Transilvania and Moldova (Wallachia,Transylvania and Moldavia) never have been Ottoman provinces.
By 1541, the entire Balkan peninsula and most of Hungary became Ottoman provinces. In contrast, Moldavia, Wallachia, and Transylvania, came under Ottoman suzerainty, but conserved fully internal autonomy and, until the 18th century, some external independence. During this period, also called the Phanariot Epoch, the Romanian lands were characterised by the slow disappearance of the feudal system

Great videos on your channel, and great music! I love how this clip shows the aspirations of ''small '' Balkan nations to overthrown Ottomans and gain independence, a process with lasted throughout the whole 19th century all the way to the first world war. Thanks to the great Russia whose involvement in Balkan always led to destabilization of Ottoman Empire (and Austrian too, later) and made space for other nations to regain their freedom and constitute themselves . Russians certainly had their interests which were not all altruistic, but which great power didn't?

Nice video, but The Principality of Moldavia and Wallachia(this was the official name) was not a Russian dominion. The Principality was a semi-independent kingdom who granted military acces to the Russian Empire snd later joined the war as an oportunity to become fully independent. Actually, the Russian forces were crushed at Plevna, but when the Romanian forces lead by Prince Karol I von Hohenzollern arrived, Karol I lead the Russo-Romanian forces to victory and so The Principality became The Kingdom of Romania.

Haha firstly you should know that Ottoman Empire has 4 main vassal for western front; Crimea, Wallachia (Eflak in turkish) ,moldovia( Bogdan in turkish) and Transilvanya( Erdel in turkish) . These are the military vassals of empire, and they joined battles with their armies for 300-400 years. And if we turn ww1, turkish flag is rised in 1916-18 again. But we lost total war. You should not hate us. We dont changes your relligion or execute your people. Yes you fight for us , yet you could live in safety for hundreds years.

As you might see the small dot and holding of Russian advance till December is the legendary Siege of Plevna. Even my lovely Finns had fought there. One castle hold the whole Russian army for months before they run out of supplies. Genius commander of the castle invented the trench warfare.
Also 19th century politics are totally crazy. Every 5 year alliances switched to maintain power balance...

I don't remember who did it but if you mean Romanians are the ones who cut the supply line to the castle. Yeah, they ended the siege in a way. Some army cut the mountain passes so the reinforcements and supplies did not arrive to Plevna.

it would have been really nice if you mentioned important moments in the war though. One of which is the battle of the Shipka pass, in which a small force of russians and bulgarian volunteers stopped an elite turkish army, which, if they didn't do, would have caused the russian defeat and the slaughter of the local bulgarians, similar to what happened to the armenians years after. Thanks to this heroic battle, the war was pretty much saved and is the main reason to have the Shipka monument built in their memory.

All I have to say about this is that Romania wasn't part of the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of this war. There was no Ottoman military presence North of the Danube, no mosques were ever built and at this time there weren't even sums of money sent to Istanbul to maintain peace (like in past centuries). So there was a vassality but only in name. Oh, and a Russian occupation of Romania? no such thing... as far as I know there were clear routes decided for the Russians to cross the principality, exactly because at first they didn't want to get involved in the war.

Im not Ottoman Supporter , In m opinion if Russians and Ottoman would fight just between them , probably Ottoman Empire would win the war thats my opinion. But a lot of another rebels or countries (what you prefere to say) support and joined the war on Russian's side. Ottomans did rule this land for centuries and they were know the geographical structures .Also Ottomans were have a lot of Turkish village in Balkans. This is the advantages why Im thinking Ottoman would win the war.

Here i see some muslims think that they are powerfull so... I decided to type that:
    Fall of constantinople
    Strength
    Byzantines
    Land forces:
7,000-10,000[3][4][5][4][5][6][7]-12,000,[8] many of whom were civilians
    600 Ottoman defectors[9]
    Naval forces:
    26 ships[10]
Note: Of the 7,000 - 10,000 soldiers in the Byzantine army, 700 were both Genoese and Greek from the island of Chios and Genoa (400 were recruited at Genoa and 300 at Chios), 800 soldiers led by the Venetians (mostly of Cretan origin, and renowned for having fought heroically during the siege), 200 men from Cardinal Isidore, all of which were archers. By nationality, there were 5,000 Greeks and 2,000 foreigners, mostly of Genoese and Venetian origin.[11]
    Ottomans
    Land forces: [a]:
    50,000-80,000[12][13][14][15][16][17][18]
    [b]:
    100,000[4]-160,000[19][20]-200,000[2] to 300,000[21]
    1.500 Serbian cavalry
    70 cannons[22] (14 large and 56 small caliber)[23]
    Naval forces:
    70 ships,[24] 20 galleys[25]
    90 - 126 ship
Mehmed II had promised to his soldiers three days to plunder the city, to which they were entitled.[83][84] Soldiers fought over the possession of some of the spoils of war.[85] According to the Venetian surgeon Nicolò Barbaro "all through the day the Turks made a great slaughter of Christians through the city". According to Philip Mansel, thousands of civilians were killed and 30,000 civilians were enslaved or deported.[86]
The looting was extremely thorough in certain parts of the city. Weeks later on 2 June, the Sultan would find the city largely deserted and half in ruins; churches had been desecrated and stripped, houses were no longer habitable and stores and shops were emptied. He is famously reported to have been moved to tears by this, speaking "What a city we have given over to plunder and destruction."[87]
Really nice battle you know 7000 (civilians) vs 50 000-80 000 and battle last 53 day Muslims won becouse they were more not because they were strong.
    Now read this:
    Strength
    Turks
100,000-250,000 according to modern Georgian estimates.
Other studies put the numbers at 200,000 to 250,000 [1]
    or approximately 300.000.[2]
400,000-600,000 according to Muslim, Christian chronicles from around that period.[3][4][5]
    Total: 55,600[4][5]
    Georgians
    40,000 Georgians (5000 Monaspa Guard)
    15,000 Cumans(Settled in Georgia)
    500 Alan Mercenaries
    100-200 French Knights
The course of the battle is differently related in the contemporaneous historical records. According to the Arab chronicler Ibn al-Athir, David sent a small detachment of his men in order to simulate negotiation. Other accounts speak of a hundred supposed deserters requesting an audience with the Seljuq commander. Meanwhile, the Georgians successfully managed to deploy a large portion of their force where they would almost encircle the enemy in a pincer movement. Their opponents remained unaware of such activities. Upon approaching the Seljuq leaders, the deserters or diplomatic group unveiled their real intentions by suddenly attacking and killing every Seljuq commander in sight and others who were attending the meeting. While this was going on David ordered a frontal attack on the enemy vanguard with his crusader cavalry which didn't only devastate the enemy's forward lines but also entangling the Seljuq archers in close combat effectively taking out a crucial component of Ilghazi's force. The Georgians then began to quickly advance on the flanks in full formation. Najm ad-Din Ilghazi ibn Artuq and his son both survived the attack on the vanguard but were severely injured during the fight and left the battlefield leaving the Seljuq army virtually leaderless. The majority of his commanders were either injured or killed which caused confusion and likely resulted in no adequate response to the chaotic situation. King David didn't hesitate and personally led the Georgian right flank ordering his heavy cavalry to ride straight into the seemingly unorganised Seljuk left flank trying to reinforce the vanguard. Having the advantage of moving his troops down slope the charge of the Georgian cavalry proved very effective. Almost simultaneously the left wing under the command of his son Demetrius struck the Seljuk right flank also with heavy cavalry. When the Georgian infantry joined the fight the Seljuq troops started to panic and retreated emmasse through the huge gap in their army's rear which wasn't engaged in the battle. This provoked big parts of uninvolved Seljuq troops to flee as well causing a massive rout while their vanguard got completely annihilated. David then sent forward his 15,000 Kipchak cavalrymen to run down the fleeing enemy so that they wouldn't have time or a chance to regroup or commence any other move. With the Kipchaks joining in the final remaints of Seljuq resistance crumbled and joined the rout. The battle was decided within three hours with the Seljuq army overrun leaving a very large number of dead, injured, prisoners and booty. Fleeing remaints were constantly pursued and run down for several days. The captured Seljuqs would serve for David's ambitions to rebuild his kingdom.[11] Aside from those accounts, it has also been suggested that confronted by a vanguard of the large invading force, David had to rely on the advantages the nearby terrain offered to disguise his troop movements. The Seljuk cavalry was provoked or tricked into a relatively narrow pass where they likely had not much room to maneuver. As they were cut off from the rest of Ilghazi's army the Georgians were easily able to take them out with spears, pikes and light infantry using bows and javelins. The rest of the coalition army was probably forced to climb slopes to attack the Georgian army's main body, while being constantly struck at the flanks by heavy cavalry. After a while, those tactics broke the fighting will of the Muslim army, which was soon routed. Ilghazi reportedly received an injury to his head when a hundred crusaders managed to break through his lines rushing towards the Seljuq command banner.[12] King David ordered his Kipchak light cavalry to keep pursuing the retreating Seljuqs to prevent further conflict. The amount of men fleeing the field must have been so huge, that the Georgian cavalry was taking large numbers of prisoners for several days. As a result, the Georgians were able to liberate the entire region from Muslim influence and even contest territories within the Seljuq Empire which at that point was left almost defenceless.
    Aftermath[edit]
Following the victory, David moved relentlessly against the remaining pockets of Muslim resistance and next year, in 1122, he stormed Tbilisi, so that the city might become, according to a Georgian chronicler, "for ever an arsenal and capital for his sons." The medieval sources emphasize David’s acts of revenge against the Muslims of Tbilisi. However, the Arab historian al-'Ayni (1360-1451), who utilizes sources, some of which have not survived, admits that the city was pillaged but says that the Georgian king eventually showed patience and "respected the feelings of the Muslims."[8][11]
