Once again, I am in awe at the vision and creative boldness of the railroaders of an earlier era who made this impressive route possible. 2023/10/20. Ontario, Canada.

This is my homeland. I grew up in klamath Falls in the 80’s. Most of my early train chasing memories are in these locations. Locomotives were a little darker back then.

Used to live on Garden and go to Mills. Loved seeing the trains as a kid. Hopefully (as a 90s kid) there is some saving grace for Klamath. Such a unique place to grow up. I remember when the snowflake parade was damn near every citizen around. The tulelake fair… etc. aye the good ol days!

This was fantastic. My father's best friend lived in Mount Shasta City, so I was able to see and hear the Southern Pacific in the 60's and 70's. I still have fond memories of hearing the whine of trains climbing out of the Sacramento river valley at night! This was a beautiful reminder of one of my favorite areas. I still check in on the live Dunsmuir station depo cam every day.

We tend to fall asleep with the TV on and last might or should I say early this morning (2-12-24) I woke up to check the fire and your video was playing, it is such a pleasure to watch and it is even better as we live in Mt. Shasta. I was really surprised when I got to the Mt. Hebron part as the Land Cruiser that passed over the tracks belongs to our daughter! Well, you must know that we have shared with a lot of our friends. Thank you so much for making such wonderful, scenic videos.

Excellent! Sometimes, delays on Amtrak divulge the most beautiful portions of the journey which would otherwise be lost in darkness, if on schedule.
Once Empire Builder started pretty late from Seattle, somewhere at 8 pm or so, by the time we woke up, the train was passing through the Rockies of eastern Washington and Idaho, and we were so fortunate to witness Glacier National Park in Western Montana in the bright midday sun. That day I felt, why didn't the Amtrak keep this as the right schedule lol.. leaving at night also avoids unnecessary hotel bills in Seattle. Meaning, you can arrive previous evening on Coast Starlight or Empire Builder, rest in hotel, explore Seattle all day till late evening, grab nice dinner and catch east-bound Empire Builder at night. I wish this comes true one another time in future.

    • @greggoryrice7046

Exactly. Happened to me on a trip from LA to Seattle, delays enabled me to see a lot of the route around Mt. Shasta to K Falls that is normally hidden at night.

Your videos are top shelf. Done in HD with stunning scenery. The narration throughout the video is so refreshing to hear. I also like the maps at the beginning of the videos as they explain the sub(s) that are depicted along withe the stations along the line. My favorite videos are this one and the two parter from Eugene to Klamath Falls. Mountain railroading at it's finest. I found "East to Spokane" a bit boring. Other than that superb stuff. When driving along I-5 one of my favorite stops in Dunsmuir is the Railroad Park Resort. You can spend the night in a retired train car, and you also can dine in one. I’ve done that, such fun! It’s also a prime photography spot for the Castle Crags.
Thank you, this is a fantastic video! I’ve missed seeing a good stretch of this route when on the Coast Starlight, because it’s dark when it passes through some of this section. It’s nice to see it in daylight!

In response to your comment on DPU's I think it depends on the territory, train makeup, logistics, etc. UP runs a lot of mid-train DPUs on other parts of their system, but it is not very common on the Shasta Line. Today even rear-end DPU's are not often seen (on the Shasta) since UP went back to using manned helpers some years ago on the Cascade Sub in Oregon.
