Spider spinning complete web + Megarace game music!

  • This 17 minutes video shows the complete spinning process from a clean start to a final perfect spider's web. Everything is in real-time, unless when "high speed" is displayed.
This cute little spider, (a harmless Danish type, only 0.5cm) has been living in my lamp for some days now. Almost every evening it spins a new web. Actually a pretty impressive construction and due to the light source it also gets a good catch of flying insects. So, its a clever little fellow.
The construction process is very complex, when starting from scratch, it still keeps the overview and through quick decisions it makes a flawless web. The spider has different types of threads. The initial ones are stronger and used for climbing, while the final last type of thread, used for the circular grid, seems very flexible and sticky.
I was thinking of adding harp music, but it ended up more electronic. The (AdLib) music is from the old PC game Megarace and is composed by Stéphane Picq: Terminal Space, New San, Fractallian space, Maeva, Factory land and Skyholder!
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MegaRace...
Video is recorded with the Nikon d5100 using an anti moire/ anti aliasing filter, to prevent the thin horizontal lines to be affected by strong moire artifacts.

I love how at the end the little spider sits on the center of the web, settles in place, and kinda says: "Done. I did a thing"

One evening, sitting by my work desk, this extremely small spider suddenly appeared and spun a beautiful web from my desk lamp. It was really impressive, so I let it be. The next morning everything was cleaned up. But again in the evening, the process was repeated. That actually went on for some evenings. Due to the predictable behaviour and favorable light conditions I got the idea of making a video of it.

Amazing! I’ve never seen the entire process like this before. I love how she builds the frame, then knows exactly how to place each segment of webbing, adjusting for tension each time. Thank you for posting this. And great music choice!! She appeared to be dancing!

At the end, when he heads over to his center pad, you can see him tuning the tension in the web, and getting a feel for how the web works. It is like his little control panel

Vcafr0 If we kill everything that is 'creepy' we will screw up the balance of nature. Plus we are filling the air, water, and soil with harmful chemicals the effects of which will come back to bite us in the ass.

What I find fascinating the most is that this spider tried to bridge the third connection for the frame from the beginning, but as it tries again it goes down farther and farther until it hits the desk. This is an excellent video of a furrowed orb weaving spider!

Absolutely wonderful. What a work of art. This little spider taught me a few lessons. Sometimes if you want to achieve something you have to build it all by yourself, nobody is there to help.
Tenacity, determination and a strong foundation will allow you to achieve the desired result. And if what you built gets destroyed, do it again and again!
This spider had no time for procrastination, it started the work and only stopped when it was done!
Oh man, I can go on and on about it! Much Respect to our spider brothers out there lol, I will never look at you the same way!

This video is amazing. I have a spider living on my balcony for 2 months now. She cleans her web at twilight after she eats. Then she hides all day and I have no idea where she is. Sometimes she’ll come back out near midnight and tidy her web. She spins debris with her silk then cuts it off the web and it falls to the ground. She will do this if there are too many Midges (small flies) caught and crowding her web too.

You can see that when the spider's done building its web it'll eat the big balls of silk in the center of the web. That way it'll be able to recycle the proteins to create another web once it eats the current one the next night / morning.

Orb weavers are master craftsmen. Some species can make almost geometrically perfect webs, hunt with them, then completely break them down by daybreak. They do this every night.
Some orb weavers can spin a web as wide as 12 feet and the spider themselves only be as big as a nickel.
