    I'm a windrider 17 owner, and I sail it on the ocean in Maine. I admire what you accomplished. Congratulations. Thanks for showing what one person can accomplish on a windrider 17.

      I used to live in Kittery for about a year, I loved Maine but dang that water was cold! :). I admire you for sailing those fridged waters.

    Congrats and great job persevering through a very difficult year for sailboats. Finishing is winning in the Everglades Challenge. - MicroTom

    Congratulations on a huge feat and thanks for posting. I've been watching the challenge from California for a few years and finally have a chance to try next year. I have a 27' trimaran that would be great but much too big for the event and also not quite so challenging. I just picked up a Compac 16 to set up for the attempt and will sail with my adult son. It's a slow but conservative option for my first go and we can rotate watches through the night to make up for slow speeds. Your route looks similar to what I intended staying mostly in the gulf and not straying too far into the narrow channels, so it was really helpful to see your videos. Hopefully we'll see you there next year when you attempt to kayak.

      A compac 16 would be great for the event. As long as you can paddle or row it for a long time, if need be. I really like the compac boats

    When you were doing the tacs and I was watching online, I didn't know what you were doing. I was here saying, "He's going the wrong way. He fell asleep and is drifting out to sea..." You know how mom's worry. Lol

      I actually had a few people think I was going the wrong way when I left Flamingo and headed back out to the Gulf instead of heading towards Key Largo :). My boat just drafted too much to go that way from what I saw on the charts. I know Windrider 17's have gone the other way, but I didn't have confidence in finding that route :)

      @sailingslowmotion yes it was at that time when you left Flamingo.

      It felt like a real accomplishment to get there, and it's a cool little spot to hang out at. I'm sure it's a fun spot to live too :)

    Congratulations, you overcame a lot hardship but was up to the challenge. Well deserved finish. I to sail a windrider 17, and I'm guessing you didn't have the pin in the base of the mast where it sits on ball of the step, or the damage could have been worse. You had a good journey and made memories to last forever.

    • @sailingslowmotion
      @sailingslowmotion  10 місяців тому

      I did have the pin in and it held when the mast fell down. Having the mast land on the console saved damage at the base, I think. Either that or the boom taking a hit and slowing it down

      Thank you, it was way harder than I expected, I mean I knew it was going to tuff, but it was one of the hardest weeks of my life. I'm glad I did it, and I'm glad I was able to finish. I'm also glad you liked the videos, they were fun to put together

    What a great video series!! Congratulations on finishing. It’s hard for us to experience how you were feeling physically and mentally on the last day especially when your mast came down. I’m sure it must have been a low point for you, but you showed great resilience and problem solving skills. I hope to see you out there when I do the challenge.

    keep on truckin!
    btw Sailorking 9th in EC this year...finished in just over 4 days, our slowest.
    BIG difference having two on board to sail

      Ah, thanks for the correction, I just counted down the lines on raceowl. And yeah, a second person would have help eliminate sleeping stops :). I have a whole new appreciation for anyone that even attempts the EC let alone finish. I got lucky with the favorable winds on the last day, otherwise I wouldn't have made it in time. A big congratulations to you

  • @amo757

    Why do you say that that the Wind Rider isn't the best boat for the EC? It isn't the boats fault the wind was light😅😅.

    • @sailingslowmotion
      @sailingslowmotion  10 місяців тому +1

      I agree, and if the winds were perfect, it would have been a fast run. I think it's not the best boat because it only paddles at about 1 knot and not at all into current or wind. It's a great boat, and I think it will be perfect for the Texas 200 where a motor is allowed
