I like the 22 magnum, about 40 years ago. My grandfather in law has about 2,000 acres. Outside of Bandera Texas he had a jackrabbit problem, there were eating up his crops. So at dusk. my wife drove the pickup truck and I was shooting off at the top of the cab with mounted spotlights. I shot 32 jackrabbits. It took all night, but he paid me $5 a rabbit. I thought that was pretty cool, and I was having a damn good time!
Back in the early 70's my buddy and I made a nice chunk of change hunting hides and the 22 Mag was our go to caliber. We took yotes, cat's, fox and anything else that would bring a buck. My go to rifle was a Marlin 783 with a K-6 Weaver, made numerous head shots at 100 yards, hit them any where else and a 125 dollar Bob Cat would get docked 40-50 bucks. I've got a 17 HMR and a 17 WSM both will have to go a long way to catch up with the old Marlin.
@@thatoneguybones8036 just standard standard 1000 round pack stuff like the browning or the Winchester M22 but I have a vortex crossfire II scope on it sighted it in at 30 yards then aim on the 3rd mildot and I can hit it every time it’s really hard when it’s windy

I have my dads old Marlin 25MN 22mag. Ordered extra mags for it. Learned to shoot on a Marlin model 60 and a glenfield. All iron sights at 100yds with a 22 long. Got the 22 mag and shot prairie dogs at 150 yards. plenty of this caliber at home with extra mags.
I have the same Savage 93 and it’s shoots great. I have used Hornady, Winchester, Remington, and Federal Ammo and pretty much the same results all good. But keep up the good work enjoy your channel.
Way I was shown to sight in my rifle if I had a good rest like you've got, is to take 2 shots, adjust my rest until the crosshairs are on where I just hit, then crank the turrets until the crosshairs are back on the bullseye. Save a ton of ammo that way. No telling you what to do just something to for you to try out if you wanted to. As always, thank you for the content.
You got that backwards. First two on bullseye, then lock your rifle down again on bullseye, then adjust your cross hair to the 2 bullet holes. It's that simple. Nice to have a second person to turn the cross hairs while you look thru the scope. Just sayin after 70 yrs. of shooting.
@@thomashoward9806 fair enough, but that's the way I was shown and it works well for me. Much more accurate than counting clicks or just blindly turning the turrets. It's saved me a lot of ammo when I'm zeroing in a new optic.

In Aus I used a 22 mag as my fox rifle for years, (back when there was a skin trade), had no problems with head shots out to 200 consistently! I was surprised at this group at 100, woeful I’d say, musta been doing a lot of things wrong or in middle of cyclone! My rifles nothing flash; 80’s era micro groove marlin bolt action with 6x40 Leopold, Winchester hp ammo! Cmon man! 😅 shot better groups than that at 100yds with me 22lr pistol!! No offense but that’s not a true reflection of 22mag’s capabilities!! 💥
I owned a Marlin 22 mag micro groove like brand new and swapped the darn thing. I wish I had it today but I swapped it for a Glock 45 cal I didn't even test fire it and swapped it for a Ruger Mini 14 so I figured I swapped my Marlin 22 mag for the Ruger Mini 14 so I guess I did ok. I have a nice Ruger M77 Skeleton stock stainless steel 22 mag I love. Also a Henry 22 mag lever action and a Henry pump action 22 mag so I'm still fixed up on 22 mags. Great cartridge and will drop anything in my territory. We only have small game, coyotes, white tail and feral hogs and with shot placement it will handle any of them.
I too like the micro Grove but you need to weaken the trigger spring for it too shine. But I also have a Winchester and Glenfield made by Winchester lever actions in 22 mag.
My 22mag experience has always been very close group’s I’ve taken turkey at 100 yards many times over the years . All shot in the head two even at 75 to 85 yards with open sights one with peep. Have out shot 223s at 100 yards five shots slightly over one hole. So the 22 mag is deadly at 100 yards and a bit farther.
I shoot a lot of .22 mag from my smith model 48. I have cronoed alot of ammo in it. Out of its 6 inch barrel, I get 200ft/lbs of energy with aguila. That's about 50ft/lbs more than a .22lr rifle. It's my favorite caliber and it's easy to find.
I have a mossberg model 640T with a vortex diamondback 3-9x40 and it is a nail driver @75. Absolutely love the 22 mag for the availability of ammo and the extra power it has over the 22lr for hunting.
.22 mag is my favorite round. Best all year all around hunting round in my opinion. Will take any game deer/hog and smaller. Hits hard, shoots straight, with nearly no recoil. Out of a rifle, it's great. Comparable to a 9mm pistol.
My 40yrs old Anschütz 1516 loves the Hornady V-max 30grs. Although less weight best precision at 100m (of course no wind!). Just love your 'dramatic report' in some videos, good job man! Greetings from Germany!
Great video man loved every second of it. Just a word of advice try to keep the barrel of the gun off the rest and use the stock instead. Having the barrel on the rest can mess with the harmonics and throw your accuracy a lil out of wack
Always enjoy your videos! Hope that you find that magazine before it rains! My experience with scopes is limited, I've only been using them for 50 years and the one brand that I have used in that time has been Leupold. Not a single failure of any kind and I could not begin to recall the number of small and medium game that I have taken using them, or the number of big game. If you are looking for quality American made rifle scopes that will not let you down with a life-time of hard use, I would give Leupold my money and not look back! I enjoy a good .22 mag. rifle, but to me, its the man behind the rifle that counts. Keep making these great videos and GOD Bless my friend!
Just a helpful tip, when shooting from a rest, try not to rest the barrel on directly one the rest. Won't make a lot of change at short distance, but as you get to further distances, it can have an effect(especially with free floating barrels).
You need to put a leupold on that thing! I got a new England single shot 22 mag and have a leupold rifleman 3x9x40 on it and it drives tracks at 100 yards!
I got a Marlin model 25 in 22 mag I know what it will do to knock out slugs from a electrical panel ! No tellin what Hootie’s gonna do !! Bring it on ! I got faith in ya
I also have a Marlin model 25 in 22 mag and I love it! In a survival situation this would be my rifle of choice. Even with no scope these guns are deadly accurate at 100 yards.
Absolutely my favorite rimfire cal. Have 7 bullet slingers in .22mag, favorite is my heavy barrel stainless marlin bolt 97 (I think). If you wanna try a .22 mag firebreather, test a pmr30 keltec! Love my mags!
My savage 93 loves cci hollow points and Winchester super x soft hollow points. I often get 2cm groups at 100m (I'm a kiwi we use metric lol) I've got the stainless barrel but I can't imagine that making much difference
I once read that the .22 magnum is more accurate in rifles than in revolvers. All I only know is that an Astra revolver that I used was highly accurate out to 30 yards.
Built my own 22 mag bolt action rifle, reciever made from scrap carbon steel tubes, barrel is a chromoly steel with 1:16 twist rate, 16 inches.. got good groups up to 100 yards especially the CCI ammo... Love the 22 mag and it has become my favorite hunting buddy since then, never stopped bringing wild boars and wild chickens to table. Shot a deer once too, low neck shot and it didn't had a chance to stand again..
Hey I always watch your videos. I've heard sometimes with scopes (especially the cheaper ones) when you adjust the zero it can stay "stuck" or not move. If you lightly tap them it helps move the inner tube that has the reticle. Also, I like to only adjust up/down or left/right, supposedly it's easier on the inner tube. Just my two cents, big fan and always watch your videos. 👍👍👍🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I bought 2 HK 300 ... 22 MAG with 20 round clips... one 300 is a genuine HK... the other was a u.s repeating arms 300 with patent rights from HK... I did an accuracy test on both rifles and quality build... I sold the u.s repeating arms due to lack of build quality and inaccuracies... the genuine HK was built better and far superior in accuracy... the genuine HK can hit a quarter( coin)at 100yrds .. I still have the quarter today with a bullet hole in it,,, the genuine HK has a floating super match barrel ... the original HK's are very hard to come by... I also have a Belgium browning lever action 22 mag saddle carbine.. EXTREMELY ACCURATE at 75 yards or less... due to its short barrel... great rifles!!! I started the HK collection in the late 70s into the 80s... HK ALL DAY! your video brings back the memories!!
Used a .22 cal. mag fired out of a Taurus Tracker with a 6" inch barrel to take out a varmint at 125 yards. Open sights using a little Kentucky windage at the top of his back. Did not think I would hit him but was surprised when it knocked him to the ground! Deadly round ! Your video using a long barrel just proves my point! PO
It would be awesome to see you do a ballistic gel test at 25, 50, 75, and 100 yards with the .22 mag!! I'm very interested in seeing the penetration that it has past 50 yards!
Before I watch the video, the answer is: hell yeah, all I shoot is .22 wmr and hell yeah it kills a whole bunch of animals from small to large (strategically placed).
Proud to have purchased my dad's lever action Winchester 22 magnum from my mom after dad passed away. It was given to dad when my brother-in-law passed away at the young age of 56. My sister did not hunt/shoot. I remember when dad ,who was diabled, would sit on the front porch of the farmhouse and shoot muskrats on the bass pond, a good 100 yard shot. My very young nephew would go and retrieve them with a garden rake. Dad always had a big smile on his face when my nephew returned with one. It is my favorite gun and I have many.
I still would love to have a full auto 22WMR PDW type gun in my collection. Actually, part of the reason why I wanted to open my own 07/02 at home is to make some really unusual, highly specific designs with readily available resources that could fill specific roles for specific people (LE/Mil.)
Wind may have been affecting the performance a bit. The difference between the .17 & the .22 mag is that the mag left bullets out there, the .17 left metal shavings
A tip that I do. To help scope cross-hairs to seat after adjusting dials is to lightly tap the blank side of the dial body of scope with my knuckles. I have seen people chase a scope around a target or say you need to fire a few rounds to get it to seat or blame the scope or even the gun
I’d like to see more 22WMR videos & if you can find some try Hornady 30 grain V-Max bullets. My rifle really likes those bullets even when shooting 75 yards or more.
It might be the barrel warming up as you shoot, changing the impact point. I use a digital thermometer to load a round at the same temperature and time my shots to offset temperature related issues. Let the barrel cool down between shots to simulate a cold barrel.
I just started using scopes too but learning to sight it in at 25 and then 50 should fine tune the scope with 5 to 10 shot groups. Wherever the hole is the biggest is usually the hotspot.
22 mag is great for shooting ground squirels. You can shoot more than 100 yards easily. I use a Ruger 10-22. My favorite rifle is a Remington 788 in 223 though.
Hope you find your mag. My daughter lost 1 in the field while bouncing round on the back of the bike. Found it the next day. Being stainless it stood out amongst the grass in the light
Back in the late seventies/early eighties I had a Winchester model 9422M .22 Magnum with a Redfield 4X scope. Man, I loved that gun. It was a great squirrel gun. I shot more squirrels than I could count with it. I ended up selling it because I needed rent money when I was out of work. Wish I never sold it. I usually kept it sighted at about 35 to 50 yards. It was a lot more effective for squirrels than a .22LR which I also had. There's nothing worse than hitting a squirrel 2 or 3 times with a .22LR and having it crawl into a hollow tree. I had an old Remington pump action .22 that my grandfather gave me. That one was also sold with the .22mag..... another one I should have kept. Anyway, thanks for the videos, very interesting stuff.
I looked up the pump action .22, it wasn't a Remington, it was a Winchester. I believe a model 62 gallery gun. It shot shorts, longs, and long rifles. I sold that for 50 bucks in the early eighties. It was a good little gun. I shot squirrels, rabbits, and a Groundhog with that one. OMG, when I see what they sell for now. It was a collector that I should have held on to. I was in my twenties when I sold it. I'm 62 now. I have to chalk it up to dumb things I did when I was a kid for sure.
I have twin Rugers. One 77/17 the other 77/22 magnum. The 17 is a tiny bit more accurate, but the 22 magnum has more stopping power. I've had ground hogs get away with the 17 but not the 22 magnum
The table you're using is there a hole in the center of it my dad used to be a lineman and would bring those home all the time for tables and if I remember right there's a big hole in the center check that for your magazine
Hey I recommend buying a smith and Wesson 15-22 sport. It is chambered in 22lr and it’s awesome it’s like $350 and it comes with a 25 round mag. It works well with federal champions and it’s super acurate and real fun to shoot, I will be very happy if you get it and if you do you won’t be disappointed.
Love me some .22mag.....got the marlin in stainless, jeweled and polished bolt and trigger assembly, made a huge difference in usability ( feels good too)😜...eats all ammo and sub moa with most at 100 yards....
Have 2 Marlin 22 magnums put in dime at 100yds. 100yd velocity same as 22lr at muzzle. Max point blank range 150yds kills better and handles wind better than .17hmr and just as accurate. Grandfather Raymond used to kill cattle for butchering with old Winchester Pump 1901 mfg with 22 shorts this can do at 100+yds same velocity accurate to pick the eye or freckle. Use to shoot Pennys for necklace holes duck taped to target like asprin shoot or generic oreos at 200yds. At 75yds the magnum shot hole in trash can placed pencil in hole then shot pencil eraser end pushed through trash can only 1 hole. B4 heart attack eyes nerves used to work good.

But the best shot I ever made was with a .22wmr head shot broadside running at 60 yds. Never had I imagined that. I thought of tigers/ rhino, lion with heavy calibers. Hey I was only 19. But I carried that 22 mag every day almost for years. Never thought I would make my best instinctive shot with it. I had a big imagination and dreamed of dangerous game closing in on me. This was a 150 lb hog running across RR track. Uneven ground and I didn't have my brother in law who was usually with me. He would have rejoiced at the shot like I did. Sorry to not have him with me then. You can plan / plan / plan but surprises happen.
Hell yeah, I know for a fact it'll kill a nice sized dough at 100yds and my favorite, bores they'll run for about 20 to 30yrds but they'll just throw they're legs up and do the chicken dance as they succumb to their death.
I was taught to shoot several times through the cold barrel to see if the groups were tight once it was warm. Then we adjusted from the group one time, shot another group to see what we might need to adjust. For the shooter here, it's clearly a bit of a windy day at the target, so the shot placements might be affected by that and once he starts adjusting every shot, it's tough to be sure of why the holes are moving.

Its skull measures 27 and 6/16 inches, making it the biggest bear ever taken down by a hunter and the second largest grizzly ever documented. However, Bella’s bear still remains the current Alberta provincial record. She was 63 years old.

He scammed you. Should pay more. How much damage each jackrabbit do?
He scammed you. Should pay more. How much damage each jackrabbit do?
Back in the early 70's my buddy and I made a nice chunk of change hunting hides and the 22 Mag was our go to caliber. We took yotes, cat's, fox and anything else that would bring a buck. My go to rifle was a Marlin 783 with a K-6 Weaver, made numerous head shots at 100 yards, hit them any where else and a 125 dollar Bob Cat would get docked 40-50 bucks. I've got a 17 HMR and a 17 WSM both will have to go a long way to catch up with the old Marlin.
Love the way you don't edit out your mistakes. Keep up the good work and "Keep the faith"

Is it still a 22 Mag if you lose the Mag?
😂👍
Several of mine don't use magazines, so ....
Hahahahahahahaha
Well, the caliber doesn't change, so it might be called a "Mag-less Magnum."
A 22 mag without the mag is just a 22.
I’d hope 22 mag would be good at 100 yards I can still hit a 8 inch steel gong at 250 with a 22lr
That's some good marksmanship.
I believe "point blank" range for the 22mag is 125yards (from a handgun).
I can't find the video on your channel. It says this channel has no content? 250 with a .22lr is impressive. Cool story.

I don't know about a cyclone but if you look at the plates the wind was factor. Need a wind ribbon to help compensate or maybe choose a windless day
I picked up a savage model 93 with a 3-9-40 yesterday, looks brand new! When I read the barrel WHO-TEE-WHO was the first thing I thought of.👍

This is one of my favorite ones to plink around with. Thanks for all ya do Who Tee Who a modern day gun slinger. 👍🇺🇸

.22 mag is my favorite round. Best all year all around hunting round in my opinion. Will take any game deer/hog and smaller. Hits hard, shoots straight, with nearly no recoil. Out of a rifle, it's great. Comparable to a 9mm pistol.
I ALSO like the ..222 Rem.
Agreed
Just a helpful tip, when shooting from a rest, try not to rest the barrel on directly one the rest. Won't make a lot of change at short distance, but as you get to further distances, it can have an effect(especially with free floating barrels).
VERY SOUND ADVICE!👍
You need to put a leupold on that thing! I got a new England single shot 22 mag and have a leupold rifleman 3x9x40 on it and it drives tracks at 100 yards!

Cheep scope may take 2 shots to jar it to the new adjustment.

Love the .22 mag. Great little round. I agree that you should try different brands of ammo.
Wind may have been affecting the performance a bit. The difference between the .17 & the .22 mag is that the mag left bullets out there, the .17 left metal shavings
I'm looking forward to this.
A tip that I do. To help scope cross-hairs to seat after adjusting dials is to lightly tap the blank side of the dial body of scope with my knuckles. I have seen people chase a scope around a target or say you need to fire a few rounds to get it to seat or blame the scope or even the gun
Try solid tip ammo, i prefer the cci maxi mag for my 22 mag. It shoots very accurately

Jeff Scuderi well not really. Impressive groups at a 100 yes. Putting down a critter at the same distance not so much

At 75yds the magnum shot hole in trash can placed pencil in hole then shot pencil eraser end pushed through trash can only 1 hole. B4 heart attack eyes nerves used to work good.

I'm glad that you found your magazine ( I read the comments before commenting myself ). Both the Savage 93 in 22 Winchester and in 17HMR use the same magazines , so you could switch them out if needed . My Savage 93R17 in 17HMR came with a five round mag . I've purchased a ten rounder and have another ten rounder on order . Imagine accidently loading a Savage 93 22 magnum rifle with 17HMR ammo because the magazines are interchangeable. All the clickies and spinnies wouldn't keep it from patterning like a 410 shotgun at 25 yards .
