Omg. I would say that this is the best comparison video for phones ive ever seen. Very detail. Youre good at mentioning all aspects to compare including: camera, speed, battery....in the comprehensive way
Thanks! Yeah, and with Exynos 9825, it seems they're moving to 7nm too, which should help. I definitely don't want samsung to just give up and stop making their own processors. I know Qualcomm already has like the lion's share of the market, but some competition is better than no competition. So having Huawei and Samsung around making their own chipsets is ultimately a good thing, just that samsung needs to at least match the snapdragon counterpart if they want to keep dual sourcing their chipsets on their flagship devices. 😂
I think that because the s series launches earliest and the price of the SD is still high when compared to the later launch dates of other flagships, Samsung is compelled to use their own chipset. Coupled with fact that prices vary starkly in different countries, it would make economic sense to find a cheaper alternative without compromising the form factor.

it's not a compact phone though, it's as big as a galaxy s5, which was a flagship phone. as for the s10e snapdragon, the battery performance makes all the difference. s10e is also nearly same width as s10 (because s10 just distorts the sides of the screen/image, making s10 better since it's flat. 1080p is plenty for this screen size, and the s10 has poorer battery performance than s10e even if you change it to use 1080p. this means that the s10 will drain like hell on its native resolution (probably the complaints from s8 and s9 users about the s10's crappy battery are due to this). And while the s10+ has better battery performance (at 1080p...), it's only due to the huge battery, which would probably degrade faster than s10e's battery, making s10e's battery healthier over time. the only thing s10e doesn't have is the telephoto lens. that 2x makes the difference of losing facial features vs having recognizable but bad quality facial features. in other words, the telephoto lens on the s10 and s10+ is not worth the $200+(?) difference in price. so, you can just buy a telephoto lens accessory (with even more zoom) for the s10e for a cheaper price. in the end, with the s10e, you will have better battery longevity, better telephoto lens magnification, more reasonable size, no distorted image on the sides of images, and a reliable side fingerprint sensor that also lets you pull the notification bar down.. So, basically, the only reason left to get the s10+ is the mainly taller screen, which is good for movies and stacking 2 tabs together, but then you'd get the distorted screen which makes no sense if you pack so many pixels to improve image quality (which only 30-50% can tell under abnormally close viewing distance side-by-side) only to distort the sides (which everyone can see)... and battery saving options + bixby is awesome for saving battery. bixby is also awesome for being able to give many commands to apps that google assistant cannot. and then there is still the samsung good lock app with many features... s10e on sale for $550, and it's probably the best phone around as of this moment (overall). -it has headphone jack, ip68 rating, expandable storage, good battery performance, dynamic amoled screen, no curved screen, premium build (unlike other "lite" phones), etc. -u can buy the best telephoto lens accessory and it will still be cheaper than any current flagship. PS: ofc, it even has wireless charging for a "lite" version phone, but i don't use wireless charging and fast charging to preserve battery life, and it already charges fast without fast charing on.
I dont understand why so many people complained about the battery life of their s8/s9.. my Note 8 has an even smaller battery and I tend to get 6-8 hours SOT
OH MY GOD, FINALLY!!! All the other channels always focus on the very top devices, they never talk about the budget flagship phones in a series. I was in love with the S10e when it first came out. The samll design is extremely rare these days, but it is perfect for me. Unfortunately, I could not get the sd855. The exynos 9820 is trashy and not optimized, affecting even everyday use experience. I had to abandon it and got the Huawei P30. Thank you for making this video!

Seems like the photos look better on the exynos version. Nice comparison. We are seeing now the same with the s20 ultra now. But the s865 does not come with esim support which makes the exynos a better buy if we need to expand memory and use a dual sim. Thanks and stay safe.
Yeah, i kinda like the way the photos looks on the Exynos version a bit more too, but overall probably not a huge difference unless you have them side by side. I'm just hoping Samsung will improve on their Exynos chipset soon, since they have been a bit behind in recent years. Thanks man, and stay safe!
I've been watching videos about S10e for a couple of days. And I am almost ready to buy one. What hesitates me now is that I can not buy one with a S855 processor. Your video helps a lot. Thanks!
here in LATAM they sell the Exynos variant, I like the phone but it really gets warm easily even in simple tasks, I was planning to use it for gaming but since I brought it less than a year the constant warm usage is not a good idea so I brought i refurbished Snapdragon variant from China, man the SD did not warm so easily, now i'm planning to exchange the motherboard to use the SD as daily driver, cause the refurbished one have some flaws in screen, cosmetic ones only but have and the Exynos wich I brought new is perfect condition. Nice review, it's sad to see that diference in a Phone like that feels like we are paying same for less.
Very good video and very detailed I have the exynos variant and have noticed that it drains a bit of battery luckily the fast charger included charges the phone up too full in like 1 hour so it's not a problem
Mali GPU cannot make it. Even the Huawei using mali the performance for gaming FPS still sucks. Can’t win adreno/Apple custom GPU. Hope the new Samsung Exynos with AMD can fight.
@@OXIR yes please, i love exynos, but cant deny that it has a bad gpu, my thought is, current GPU (mali) cannot compete with the cpu (exynos) so the gpu bottleneck the cpu. (Sorry if i had a bad english)
Not just thermals are different while gaming , but there's a huge difference in the frame rate aswell , exynos drops frames like drazy , feels like a budget phone while playing pubg
actually the exynos version is still good enough already, and is still the one I would normally recommend in Singapore since it's more expensive to get the SD855 version imported here, and there isn't local warranty. Would be nice if samsung sold the same version worldwide of course.
Yep, the Exynos version in the UK is a deal breaker for me. At least the upcoming Note will have caught up, just about, with a 7nm Exynos, just as Qualcomm upgrades to a SD855+, so Note wise again, in the UK, sold an inferior Exynos Note at a more expensive price. The battery life is the killer, its about 25% less efficient on the Exynos, especially on standby. There is every chance Samsung throttles the US SD version so that it doesn’t completely make a mockery of the Exynos version? I know Samsung will catch up in 2021 with their 3nm SOC, but until then no thanks Samsung in the UK. The A13 chip will kill the S10+ and Huawei with their 5g chip in their new Kirin could top both. Samsung are last at the moment with the Exynos and bearing in mind they are now as expensive you really have to be a Samsung super fan to buy an Exynos S10+. The SD S10+ is nice, though already after a few months outdated. I get that, Qualcomm knows that Huawei and Apple are going to make fun of the SD855 so they have had to up their game with a mid-year upgrade, but that makes the S10+ and other SD855 devices fall behind. Samsung wants to be first with any new Qualcomm chip to market to the teen sector, but that means by Q4 of 2019 they have a far inferior product and explains why the price has been in free fall. Why buy something without a SD855+, UFS3, latest RAM (Note rumored to have), latest 5g modem, improved cameras, fast charging, fast wireless charging, etc. Having the s10+ for 4 years without the future proofed features makes it a bad choice.
Yeah, we'll just have to wait and see how it goes on the Note10. At least the price over here in Singapore has gone down enough to short of make up for the chipset, so it's still not that bad. But otherwise, I can totally understand if some consumers wants to vote with their wallet and refuse to pay for the Exynos variant. Even though, on its own, the Exynos 9820 is probably still decent enough for regular consumers. But then again, I don't think it would be good for Samsung to just use snapdragon as well, since monopoly in the market isn't good for consumers too. And I don't want a repeat of the Snapdragon 810 fiasco which caused almost every other Android phone to suck that year. 😂 Let's hope it'll be better for the next Exynos chipset!
The note 10 seems like a disappointment to many note users but they have at least more differences between S and Notes series this year than the last 3 to 4 years with the note 5,7(RIP),8 and 9.
I feel cheated when Samsung discriminates between its customers. That's really unfair. I am presently using Note 9 but despite having a 4000 mAh battery, it struggles to last an entire day. I do not play games. I have only 4-5 third party apps but still it drains out. I figured out that the problem is with the Exynos chipset. What's the point in having a costly phone when you can't use it to its full potential just because of its mediocre battery life? I am going to sell it off as I am frustrated with Samsung now. I am not too excited about Note 10 either as removing the headphone Jack has left me heartbroken😥😥😥
Thanks! hmm, I think ebay would be an option? not sure what online retailers are available over there. For my side I got it from Expansys since they ship to singapore from hong kong.
Last I recall GPU performance is generally better on the Snapdragon as opposed to the Exynos. Kinda wish we have more Snapdragon 855 options in Singapore (Sony's Xperia 1 will probably not make it here since the whole Xperia lineup has disappeared, LG didn't even bother releasing the G8 ThinQ here, ASUS Zenfone 6 has some good reviews but...no news so far). Only ones I can find here are Oppo's Reno 10x Zoom, Xiaomi Mi9 and Oneplus 7 Pro.
Yeah. Actually kinda strange that the ZenFone 6 didn't make its way here. The 5 was pretty decent. Xperia 1 I think have been certified by IMDA already, so there could be a chance it could come to SG. But yeah, kind wishes we had more options. The Pixel 4 will probably will SD855 too, but by then we'll probably see phones with SD855+ already. 😂
I think it's still not too bad if you are not a heavy user and don't really game on your phone. For me the performance wasn't really the issue, but it's just that it gets warm more easily compared to the snapdragon version, and that when using it with mobile data it drains the battery more it seems. Other than that, the rest of the phone is still pretty solid. Compared to newer mid range phones it still has all the bells and whistles, like an actually usable ultra wide angle cam, ip68, wireless charging, 3.5mm jack, capacitive fingerprint sensor (which is more reliable than the ultrasonic one samsung likes to use), and it's still one of the rarer compact android phones around. But like i mentioned earlier, if you're a heavier user (like a lot of camera, using the screen at high brightness outdoors on mobile data, gaming), the phone will heat up quite easily and battery life will probably not be enough. If those are deal breakers for you, the Pixel 4a could be a nice alternative actually. a little less premium overall and less bells and whistles, but it's a newer phone with longer software support, and battery life is a lot more reliable. hope this helps. :)
@@agustina-bp8rd actually at the point of my testing i think the exynos camera performed a little better than the sd camera overall. I like the better processing and better details. but both are pretty good though and very close in camera performance. :)
you have a version with Snapdragon or Exynos, no difference, if these actions improve your performance by 20%, try disabling those applications that I said and you will feel the difference before and after, when I played pubg at ultra settings, I spent up to 30 fps for fun, I turned it off in the settings (game launcher, game optimizer, game booster) after these actions at ultra settings below 60 fps, it does not sit out, who has the version with Exynos, disable these applications in the settings and feel the difference, from my own experience I know the difference is huge after these actions !

The CPU in the Exynos is a bit greater than the SD's but isn't as power efficient, the GPU is the default one from ARM and sucks in comparison to the SD's in-house GPU. Really hope Samsung beef up their GPU game with AMD and maybe turn the tables. That's the least they can do for market they made the underdog of performance.
Finally! A test I wanted to see! I have 2 s10e aswell. A flamingo pink snapdragon chip set s10e from USA, I also have the british prism silver exynos chip set s10e.
How about Samsung Pay? Does it work with Snapdragon CPU in countries that only sells Exynos CPU? I'm thinking about using Snapdragon-powered Samsung devices with Samsung Pay in Malaysia, but I'm worried that it wouldn't work at all.
Samsung pay still works for me and I can add singapore issued cards on the Hong kong SD855 S10e. Just that the rewards is based on Hong kong's samsung pay system instead of Singapore's.
i can imagine why a diffrenet SoC may use less power/run cooler etc, but why are photos different? arent the same instructions executed everytime? shouldn't the post-processing be the exact same? of course after accounting for slight sensor difference
It could be due to the different ISP (image signal processor) used on both chipset? that might cause a difference as well. It could be due to the difference in camera version as well? Hard to say for sure. 😂
Wira That literally won't happen. Why would a Company sell its own chipset to others especially when they also use SD and other Chinese companies use it too... it's like the same for Huawei, no other phone uses Kirin beside its Honor subbrand
Ok, so i did test the audio out and I couldn't really hear a huge difference on my Samson SR850 or KZ ZSN Pro. Those are more like budget audio gear and I'm listening to like compressed audio like aac or mp3 files (mostly 320kbps) anyway. Or maybe my ears are just not as sharp. BUT I did some digging and found a great breakdown on anandtech on the audio portion. According to them, while the Exynos variant typically have better DAC (wolfson/cirrus logic) inside them, they found that it's still using an older audio chip that has been in use since S8, and it has since been surpassed by the SD855's audio chip. But in the end, I personally couldn't hear a big difference, so I didn't really thought it was a big enough point to be worth mentioning in the video. www.anandtech.com/show/14072/the-samsung-galaxy-s10plus-review/16 Camera wise, actually it depends on your liking too. I think both are good with slightly different style of processing. Personally I think the Exynos rear cameras are a bit nicer in terms of processing. Front camera i like the SD855.
Can you comment on if everything was working on the snapdragon version? (I assume you are in Exynos territory?). So voice calling over wifi, no other strange problems because you used a phone outside of your region? I'm thinking of just taking the risk and importing the 855 one.
Hmm, most of the stuff works fine. Not sure about voice over wifi since I don't normally use that. There are some things that wouldn't work like not being able to get VoLTE on some carriers, Samsung pay rewards being specific to the country of origin (still usable, just that the promos you get will all be for the other country). But mostly the phone works just like an Exynos version would for the rest of the stuff. :)

Hmm. I don't recall hearing any difference in audio quality between either version? That said, i don't have both of them around anymore to test them again, and it has been a while. Exynos used to be known for their better DACs, but it seems like Samsung hasn't really been doing much in that regard in recent years. I think the V20 will probably still sound better though with the ESS dac, so I guess it depends on how particular you are. Or if you're using higher impedance audio gear then maybe the S10 might lack power. For me i'll be fine living with the S10's 3.5mm audio quality since i'm just using IEMs with them. 😅

Yeah. the battery life on the Exynos S10e is good enough for me too for like my daily usage. But i do know quite a few people who think it's a little too short though, so the SD855 version would be great for them, if only it was officially available in Singapore. haha

I might still lean towards the exynos s10e actually. For me i don't game as much, and don't spend so much time on mobile data, so battery life is not as bad for me. It also has IP68, 3.5mm jack, stereo speakers, better build quality, and wireless charging. Qualcomm having a monopoly is ultimately not great for consumers as well. Hopefully their new Exynos 9825 will be good. :D
Or they could just detect that a benchmark is running and then boost performance artificially. haha. That's why I don't really take the scores too seriously, and rather just base it on my own experience. Anyway, the speed difference isn't even that big. I'm using benchmark just so the phone uses up battery more quickly for battery test, and so I can measure the temperature of the phones while they are under load. 😂
@@axhng or just have Gary Explains test it. He made a more accurate benchmark for Android phones that he can only test since he won't give it out to others. So the scores for that test can't be cheated by OEMs.
Hey! Is there really that much of a difference between the two chips? I’m planning to buy the S10e. I’m most curious about the battery life, as a regular user. Thanks!
I would say performance wise, it's not that big of a difference in day to day use. But the Exynos heats up faster, so if you play games, the Exynos will start throttling faster which will result in noticeable drop in performance. Battery life for me hasn't been all that bad because I'm a pretty light user, i don't use samsung service (disable whatever I could on the phone, no samsung account), and I'm on wifi a lot. So a day of use is still fine for me on Exynos, and it's better than even the Pixel 4 for me. Though I did notice the Exynos seems more power hungry when it's on mobile data. For me i think it comes down to price. Because the Exynos version is being sold in singapore officially, it's way cheaper and easier to find. So to me the difference might not be worth paying the premium if main concern is just battery life. Since it's cheaper just to buy a powerbank anyway. 😂
Alex Hong Thanks a lot for your fast response! If it’s not that big of a difference I’ll just go ahead and buy the Exynos, I’m not a very heavy user either. I sometimes just like to play some heavier games. I made my decision! Thanks!
just nwabisa Yeah I bought the exynos version and honestly... It’s a huge improvement from my last phone (iPhone 6). I get around the whole day without charging, and as a regular user (around 3 hours screentime). The game launcher says you can play a game like Brawl Stars around 6 hours without stopping, charging or lag, which is 100% true. For me it’s the perfect phone and battery doesn’t bother me with the exynos chip. When you’re a heavy user who often goes outside with your phone and you want to get around without charging it, you might want to search further... I personally would buy the werelds charger, it’s compact and can help you out if you find yourself in the situation I just mentioned. Conclusion: for me it isn’t worth the extra money to buy the snapdragon, it kind off goes against the goals why you would buy the S10e; all the essentials in a cheap and compact way. If you have any more questions feel free to ask! (English isn’t my native language :/ )
😂 I don't think it's that bad. Main difference is just in thermals and battery life, and it's not a massive night and day difference. It would have been nice if they were the same, but unfortunately we don't get to choose anyway. I'm using the Exynos note10 now and i'm happy enough with it.
Nice that I found this video, they had an S10e for sale but it's using the exynos and seeing the huge difference in battery drain. No way I'm buying that. That's unfortunate, all mobile phones seem to be small tablets these days, hard to find anything that is actual "phone size". I don't want to carry around a tablet in my pocket.
I think the best small phone is probably the iphone 13 or if you want smaller 13 mini. Sadly Android devices just doesn't seem to be as battery efficient somehow, so smaller phones with smaller battery usually suffers. :/

I'm not sure if they managed to fix the idle drain since I don't have the phones with me anymore, but with $200 difference, you can just get a powerbank to keep the phone topped up, or if that's not convenient, the S10 with slightly bigger battery could be an option too.

So having Huawei and Samsung around making their own chipsets is ultimately a good thing, just that samsung needs to at least match the snapdragon counterpart if they want to keep dual sourcing their chipsets on their flagship devices. 😂

Thanks! Yeah, I'm kinda okay with both variants too. Exynos version does performs well enough still. Just a bit bummed out to see the difference.

The battery works just fine for me, and I think 3650mAh is a decent amount for you. Though, it depends on how you use your phone. I will tell you how I use mine and let you decide:
- Chatting app: 10-20 mins per day;

thanks for the way to compare phones side to side. do ypu think that is a good ides buy exynos version? i dont know what to do..pls

Hello! I was told that on exynos the sound is better than on SD. But at the expense of the camera, exynos goes red, is that right?

Exynos used to be known for their better DACs, but it seems like Samsung hasn't really been doing much in that regard in recent years. I think the V20 will probably still sound better though with the ESS dac, so I guess it depends on how particular you are. Idk wtf just happened. Until 2017, Exynos was one step ahead compared to Snapdragon. From 2018 and on, something happened. And even tho I know what happened, I can't explain to me why they did such a stupid thing
@2good2be4gott From Exynos 9810 and on, they started using a limiting cpu governor and unoptimized scheduler. This causes poor battery Life and lowered performance. Now if you want to get full power from Exynos, you gotta root and change Kernel.
Is the battery still shit on exynos variant because i hear recent updates fixed it?
I've haven't really noticed any difference actually. It's still about the same for me.
@@axhng how much screen on time do you get out of Exynos variant?
Maybe you said it in the video but i missed it :)
@@Tonixxy i can get around 4-4.5 hours normally. but then I'm not using a lot of samsung services and apps, and I don't have a lot of apps installed. so it might be a bit better for me compared to most folks. SD855 gives me about 30-45mins more SOT. :)
The WiFi connectivity is too damn slow in exynos.
Is this comparison updated?? I read some comments saying that with updates exynos has improved
yeah. well, as updated as I could get on these phone as of last week. The Exynos version have not gotten any update since then, while the Snapdragon version received a small update that didn't really change anything it seems. haha
@@axhng
I don't notice my Exynos underperforming like yours in this video at all, the amount of time youre Exynos needs to open apps is ridiculous, mine opens up lots off apps just as quik as the Snap version.
I remember that back with the S7 the exynos variant was better but lately Snapdragon does a better job!
yeah. during the S7 era, the SD810 was so bad that samsung went with exynos globally. haha. That's one of the reasons why I think Samsung should keep doing their own chipsets despite not being able to match Qualcomm in recent years. Qualcomm having a monopoly is ultimately not great for consumers as well. Hopefully their new Exynos 9825 will be good. :D
@@axhng true, they definitely can do a better job with those chipsets. Hopefully this new chip shows decent improvements.
Why S20e didn't arrive?
Because the vanilla S20 replaces the S10e. S20+ replaces the vanilla S10, while the S20 Ultra replaces S10+.
I think benchmarking apps are not accurate anymore because OEM pay them to make their device score higher
@@axhng oh haha wow your opinion is way better than mine 😁
@@axhng or just have Gary Explains test it. He made a more accurate benchmark for Android phones that he can only test since he won't give it out to others. So the scores for that test can't be cheated by OEMs.
Excellent effort and elaborated very well.... Keep it up....
Well Exynos used to be the better chipset but it seems they've fallen behind ever since the SD845. Samsung needs to catch up now.

Just saying 😂🤘🏽
@@jijo666 lol. Hello brother from another mother! 😂
Thanks!
@@diivineprod Did you buy the exynos version, how are you finding the battery life ?
just nwabisa Yeah I bought the exynos version and honestly...
@@diivineprod Thank you so much for responding!
watching this on my exynos s10 i feel like an idiot wth samsung
😂 I don't think it's that bad. Main difference is just in thermals and battery life, and it's not a massive night and day difference. It would have been nice if they were the same, but unfortunately we don't get to choose anyway. I'm using the Exynos note10 now and i'm happy enough with it.
I felt that man.
Exynos is so much better in taking pictures
4:06 Built-in FM Radio on Samsung S phone? That's it, Snapdragon variant all the way! I wonder if the North America variant of Samsung S phones also have built-in FM Radio like that Hong Kong set that you got.
yeah, seems like the Hong Kong variant still have FM radio support, though i'm not sure about NA variants though. 🤔
I'm waiting the new Asus Rog Phone 2 comparisons ...
Where then do we buy the snap dragon 🐲 variant?

How about in Battery life? Which is better Exynos or Snapdragon?
Overall usage I think the SD855 is better, mostly because it feels like when using mobile data the exynos uses more power.
Same in India no SD only exynos.
S10 lite
How does it look today after all pathces that fixes Exynos battery drain issue? Still drain in idle mode? I am considering to get 10e, there is $200 difference between Sanp and Exynos versions.
I'm not sure if they managed to fix the idle drain since I don't have the phones with me anymore, but with $200 difference, you can just get a powerbank to keep the phone topped up, or if that's not convenient, the S10 with slightly bigger battery could be an option too.
@@axhng I see different opinions on reddid, some people can see battery life improvememts after updates, some not. And it appears that google camera doesn't work with s10 exynos out of the box, some tricks required. The reason why I curious about battery life snap vs exynos is because I don't want carry power bank and want maximum battery life.
The only thing Exynos is having it is the CPU performance but Qualcomm caught up so now the Exynos version has become a rip-off.
Camera as well
Someone knows where can I import one S10e with snapdragon pls? I'm from Brazil. Tks.
