- I bought this Harry Potter Monster book thing on eBay. It was sold as faulty and the description said that it won't open and is stuck in the closed position!
Let's see if I can work my magic and get this thing working again!

This is more secure than some MasterLocks that LPL has had.
08:03 my guess would be the motor got stuck at some point hence the non opening. That added to what must be over a decade of non use meant the stuck motor was seized in place. However you manually operating the belt both freed up the stuck motor and probably helped with it being seized by a little corrosion.

Those monster eyes on the front cover are creepy as hell.
It seems like the motor was stuck due to not being used or oxidation on the contacts inside the motor. When you turned the belt manually it turned the motor, scraping off some of that oxidation and allowing the motor to work again. Running the motor by locking and unlocking the book freed it up even more. Nice fix Steve.
Proving the old saying "use it, or loose it" holds true!
No matter how accidental or unorthodox the fix is, it's still a fix lol 😆 nice one x

Too late now but perhaps a little contact cleaner dowsed all over the belt and wheel would ensure future working.

Could have at the very least lined it with velvet or felt! Maybe even a nice magical inspired journal & wand/pen! They Really Missed The Mark!

We have one of those. The fault of ours is that it doesn't lock lol. Only paid a few quid in a charity shop though and I'm quite supprised the kids haven't completely destroyed it yet. They've managed ro blind it with playdoh though

Probably damp ingress stopped the motor nice easy fix 😁
i recommend tapping it lightly with a sledge hammer at full force to send the bits flying.
don't forget to recycle the debris.

God love IPA, after watching several of your videos, I was able to fix my touchpad in my laptop by removing it and cleaning it with a soft brush and IPA. I'd broke it by spilling larger in it, which sent it mental....all is well now.

Bit silly super gluing it back together as if it does it again, how you gonna re fix it? But apart from that a ok video.
out of curiosity are you familiar with super glue activator? it's a game changer.. stuff like you fixed there, super glue on one side, activator on the other, hold them together for 3 seconds and boom instant bond, no heavy book needed

@@StezStixFix I was a bit frustrated on that one! I wish you had opened it to see the mechanism! It probably will jam again soon. It seemed to be easy to get inside once it was opened, just held by some philips screws.
