Price to performance seems to be about right for this to me. It is certainly not the cheapest option with that impressive AMD APU, but its not badly priced either. So if its as well made as suggested, and feels like a real premium product... Being a 'real' computer you can do anything on is nice, it only seems expensive if all you really want is the old consoles that are not yet so old as to be stupidly overpriced... Though the lack of brightness control would kill it for me, I want nice dim screens at the bottom.
This more of a luxury item than anything. Playing literally any DS game is as easy as getting a cheap R4 flash card and a used DS (or dust off the old one you have knocking around in your closet)
I mean, there are concerns about hardware availability and costs. This doesn’t solve those problems obviously, but maybe this is kind of a “prototype” and if it sells enough, they will do more and they will get cheaper?
Those who are genuinely in game preservation know that the lifespan of the hardware is a real pinch point. New hardware made independently is absoutely necessary to keep this going once all the original devices have failed. The Commander X16 exists for very good reason.
To fix the DS emulator not having separate windows, you need to run DS games through the 3DS emulator like Citra. Citra has an option for dual windows.. that's how I play MM3D and OoT3D on my PC.. Also you don't need an app for borderless gaming literally just hit f11 or Alt enter for full screen...
The dual control sticks and the size of this thing kinda reminded me of that 3DS + Wii U fusion consle that Nintendo was planning to make before the Switch.
The Wii Weather Channel Night time music...so peaceful. Reminds me of when I was 15, staying up too late. Too much nostalgia. Hard to grasp being older than double that age now.
The UA-cam algorithm is so dumb. I haven't seen any Wulff Den videos on my feed for months and then just now I thought, "I wonder what Bob has been up to? Did he leave UA-cam?" so I search for your account and sure enough there's tonnes of new videos that YT hasn't been serving to me. It's such an overly reactive algorithm.
I really want one of these, so many cool use cases, even just for PC gaming, like you can have your trainers open on the second screen, or controller layouts and macros, it's just perfect for PC gamers who want a handheld, and the fact that you can play DS/3DS/Wii-U/Game&Watch/Dual-screen-arcade-games/Dual-screen-PC-games, or you can have your game hub or map highlighted on the 2nd screen, if you are playing music you can have your music app open on the second screen, game walkthrough both text and video form on the 2nd screen, and another really dope use, is I can use MIDI programs for making beats on it on the go, you could even just have the game cover art open of the game you are playing.
I bought the OpenPandora handheld gaming device many years ago. It has a small keyboard on it. It's powerful enough to emulate systems all the way up to the PS1. It is still my favorite handheld, although my jailbroken/homebrewed 3DS is a close second.
The bottom screen on the Ayaneo flip ds is smaller than all the ds's bottom screens which is pathetic Imagine paying £800 to £1000 for it and it has a smaller bottom screen than a 2004 handheld console
its always funny to me seeing people gripe about the price of these things, because while $800 is certainly not cheap (particularly if you are only looking for an emulation device) i think its crazy that a small company like aya neo can release a device like this at that low of a price point. if this was released a few years ago it would probably be like $2000. overall i think its kind of a dumb and niche product, but it excites me in a way that other pc handhelds outside of the steam deck havent. im hoping it does well enough that the concept doesnt just disappear because i think with a bit of work on the hardware design and software it could become a really cool product category
3:18 "lunch time meal *product*" sounds exactly like the kind of mumbo jumbo jargon that "food" companies use to describe garbage that they make in a lab and designed to get you to consume more of it. That's why they call it a "product" and not just a "meal".
Top screen looks great, and I wish thats what the 2/3ds had! Wii U is also great, but im with you about the price. $800+ vs the $175 I paid for my JP 2DSXL (shipping included).
reconfigure your monitors in display settings to register as being side to side rather than top and bottom so you can move a window to the side and catch the other side on the other screen
you could potentially get an old 3ds xl, a 512gb steam deck, and a used switch for the same price as this device which i think makes it obvious that this is not the better choice lol
I think from an innovation standpoint, this this is dope. From a quality control, user experience, price, and business model standpoint, YIKES. Can't wait to see ambernic, retroid, analoge, and others though follow some of the blueprints of this and make their own spins
remember that you could also use the steam deck as a wii u gamepad and a second monitor as the "tv" if you have a dock. this set up for only wii u is overkill
14:36 I think for borderless gaming you have to choose the process binary name (AKA the .exe option)... so it disregards the titles, and immediately recognizes the emulator. It'll save you from the annoying setup of every game that you emulate. The All-in-one solution. Give it a try Wulff Den.
It's a micro switch D-Pad, which is perfect for many D-Pad type games, the trouble is, there are games perfect for micro-switches, like arcade platformers and shmups, beat'em'ups, platformers, and bad for others where you need to roll the D-Pad, but micro-switch offers precise and accurate feedback at least and is the best all-rounder D-Pad, once you get used to the Neo Geo micro-switch D-Pad for retro games, it's hard to go back to normal D-Pad's imo.

This is awesome, but also one of those EXTREMELY NICHE USECASE kind of devices. Like, most of the stuff you could use this for can be done on a modded 3DS or another PC/Android handheld, but the Wii U emulation is something so unique to this that it works as a compelling selling point. I suppose if you're looking for a beefy handheld PC it also works, but as someone with a almost $4000 gaming PC that's not something I'm particularly interested in with any of these handhelds.
To fix the Chrome window issue: Plug in a mouse and keyboard, open a new Chrome window, move the window to the top screen (make sure this Chrome window is NOT in fullscreen mode), with the Chrome window up top hold the "ctrl" key on your keyboard and with that key held down left-click (so the normal click) on the mouse to close the window (so click on the "X" button top-right of the Chrome window with the mouse). This tells Windows that you would like Chrome (or any application) to open in that area of screen (unfortunately this does not always work).
I think everyone seems stuck with the idea that you have to emulate 3DS and WII U on this machine, well it would do great, but I ordered mine with an idea to just multi-tasking on the fly when I travel around coz I dont have full PC setup in all the places I need to stay, so having 2 screens to play a game and watch a football match is freaking great. It literally depends on the use cases for each individual whether that price point is worth your bucks.
These devices are cool to see where the current ‘edge’ of handhelds can be. Also I think a lot of these PC handhelds are a good indicator for what Nintendo WON’T and will do. I don’t imagine Nintendo releasing a handheld with less than 3 hours battery life which definitely limits them. I just cannot imagine a Nintendo device that would only have 1 or 2 hours when it was brand new. If the next Switch has 3 hours I will be fine with that since I rarely play that long in portable anyways and you can always bring a big battery charger along if you end up playing longer on a flight or long road trip. The other thing I’ve really appreciated about seeing all the devices that have come out since the Switch is just how damn efficient the Switch is. They really nailed it with battery life from day 1 with the Switch and somehow made it so devs could make games for 8 years though I think we hit the wall in terms of what Switch can do pretty fast at launch. The balance of power and efficiency with affordability is a difficult one Nintendo engineers have no doubt been dealing with. If we can get a portable PS4 power Switch I’ll be pretty happy though I still don’t think Nintendo is there yet. The development of the mobile space and all these portable PCs is rapidly changing and that is one reason I am glad Nintendo has ‘delayed’ the next system until 2025. Better late and better than early and weak sauce. The Switch 2 would do well to become a line of devices like iPhone where upgrades can be added on yearly or every other year basis but I just don’t think that would fit Nintendo’s image. I just don’t imagine Nintendo Switch 2 will be even as strong as Steam Deck but that would be amazing just to be on par with it.

I wonder if Bob will ever find a use for a tackpad on one of these handhelds.
