There's a version of this where instead of a second screen they put in a keyboard, which I feel is more practical. Linus, the reason for the second TOUCHSCREEN for this with DS/3DS emulation is so you can use the touch controls as intended for games that utilized them. My DS Lite still gets about 20 - 30 hours of battery playing Pokemon games. I can go weeks without charging it. Other handhelds running Android or otherwise for emulation have not even come remotely close to the endurance of actual Nintendo hardware.
3ds emulator has an option to split the screens into different windows, and the DS has a button to disable on screen metrics below, so you can drag n drop the other screen down below
I emulate DS/3DS on my Odin lite. Depending on the game I either use side by side with one larger and a hotkey to swap or rotate the unit for some games and display one screen over the other. I have a DS and 3DS, it's just easier to carry my Odin lite and it's less than a third of the price of the Flip DS. I bet it's lighter too. I have a Onexplayer, great sized screen but it's not the most portable and the overheads mean less battery life as well. I just can't really justify upgrading from the Odin lite. I can stream to it via Sunshine/Moonlight for higher spec emulation or games. The battery life is superb.
Not gonna lie, this thing looks sick and the specs are respectable, I love the layout of the buttons and screens, I can tell I'd have an awesome time at this even though I've never played in a handheld PC
I genuinely don't know. What kind of games would you play on this or similar handhelds that aren't Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck? Is it just for emulated games or can you install all your typical games launchers and play your Steam/Uplay/EA/etc. games?
I'm waiting for my 8840 DS. Yes I'm one of those guys who wanted the latest NPU. Kudos to Linus for providing lab tested information that not even Ayaneo provides, such as the actual screen luminosity.
For DS this may not be a good idea considering you can probably find one at your local curb/cousin's old bedroom but for 3DS or even better WiiU games this might actually be a pretty solid device.
I like the keyboard version more, it has more practical value than a second screen. But then you have the GPD Win Mini that offers the same in a slighlty better form factor.
@DanteS-119 lol, I mean, that's the shorthand sure. The reason I was pointing it out is because they were saying it was an odd cable size, but it's not.
every ds emulator ive ever used has an option for individual windows for ds games idk what he's talking about on that one. you can easily have both of those windows full screen.
DS emulation does not usually support it. 3DS emulation and Wii U emulation does. DS emulators require DeSmuME or OnTopReplica. Even MelonDS which is the current most popular DS Emulator does not support Multiple windows
I've wanted proper dual-screen mode in DS emulation for years, thankfully the 3DS devs are much more competent, and it's been available from the get for 3DS emulation, and it works perfectly on the Flip DS, someone who knows what they are doing will add proper DS mode to a DS emulator eventually, it's essential for some of the best DS games, like Retro Game Challenge and Retro Game Challenge 2, Sonic Colours, Zelda Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks and so on. It will be added to MelonDS soon, it's on their road-map, and may now be expedited thanks to the Flip DS, Wii U also works perfectly, which also is home to tons of incredible Virtual Console games, there are also dual-screen arcade games, PC games, being able to use game trainers for your fave PC games on the bottom screen will be amazing, watching some videos while playing games, there are so many dope use cases for this thing, I canny wait to get one, only thing is, it doesn't have an OLED screen :(.
Unrelated to the video itself, but as someone who wants portable gaming but also sucks with controllers, I really just want a portable PC that has a detachable mouse and keyboard. The Lenovo Legion Go is *this* close to my perfect portable form factor and I will probably get it at some point to pair with my foldable keyboard that I use with my phone.
I have to admit, I like the form factor, but don't care for the second screen. The general shape and ergonomics for it as an Ally equivalent with one screen would be great though - being able to fold it shut to protect the screen and make it really portable in-bag is great. now I can play my ds games for 4 times the price as ds!
5 days and the Ninjas haven't been alerted yet. I'm impressed.
Y'know what else is making me not wanna pick up this thing? In addition to everything else, I mean. Are you HEARING the sound of that hinge throughout the video? I fear the hinge weakening so that every little jiggle makes that horrible RNNGGG sound. It's like styrofoam rubbing on styrofoam, it's kinda hideous.
when a msi claw and a 2dsxl really love each other
You know what's perfect for ds emulation? A 3ds
1:28 a 5ft cable? So it's perfect for Linus!
Skip to 12:20 for pricing forget it
Every time you sneeze *aya* brings out a new hand held PC. Lets be real here
How many machines do AYANEO produce each year? How is it that they haven't conquered the pc handheld market already? *looking at their prices and understanding it immediately :P
10:25 There need to be a way to split the screens into 2 separate the windows
There is for Citra
I think that might be a suggestion he's responding to from off camera that got lost in the edit with the information he got from a community member/possible dev
i really miss Linus's beard look
Missed opportunity to test Wii U games on this. The "new" 2DS LL/3DS XL are hands down the superior consoles for anything NDS
My DS Lite still gets about 20 - 30 hours of battery playing Pokemon games. I can go weeks without charging it. Other handhelds running Android or otherwise for emulation have not even come remotely close to the endurance of actual Nintendo hardware.
3ds emulator has an option to split the screens into different windows, and the DS has a button to disable on screen metrics below, so you can drag n drop the other screen down below
...why does he look like he's been crying all night?
Well because he was
Shaving downsides
The battery life is superb.
all of the ds emulators i've used have had the option to have the second screen in a separate window, just do that and put it on the bottom screen
Is it just for emulated games or can you install all your typical games launchers and play your Steam/Uplay/EA/etc. games?
You can play pc games, games from steam, games from any other launcher, emulated games, etc. Its basically a laptop shaped like a handheld.
I'm waiting for my 8840 DS. Yes I'm one of those guys who wanted the latest NPU.
Kudos to Linus for providing lab tested information that not even Ayaneo provides, such as the actual screen luminosity.
10:38 that is an issue that could be fixed by Batocera OS or running Retroarch surely?
I do like that the screen is above your hands so it's not SO unergonomic
For DS this may not be a good idea considering you can probably find one at your local curb/cousin's old bedroom but for 3DS or even better WiiU games this might actually be a pretty solid device.
Considering you can get a 3DS for like a third the price I am going to have to disagree
@@RusticRonnieyeahhhh even a base launch model 3ds or 2ds can be had for a hundo or less
I like the keyboard version more, it has more practical value than a second screen. But then you have the GPD Win Mini that offers the same in a slighlty better form factor.
You should be able to go into the emulator and change the 2nd screen on the ds to the 2nd monitor on windows (the bottom screen)
any review on Ayaneo customer service?
1:25 it's probably just under 5 feet. It's likely a 1.5 meter cable which is 4 feet 11.055 inches.
@DanteS-119 lol, I mean, that's the shorthand sure.
The reason I was pointing it out is because they were saying it was an odd cable size, but it's not.
Life hack: never leave your desk and you don't need a portable.
What if you have custody issues?
every ds emulator ive ever used has an option for individual windows for ds games idk what he's talking about on that one. you can easily have both of those windows full screen.
DS emulation does not usually support it. 3DS emulation and Wii U emulation does.
DS emulators require DeSmuME or OnTopReplica.
Even MelonDS which is the current most popular DS Emulator does not support Multiple windows
Linus in his best Deedee voice "ooh what does this button do?" 😂
I've wanted proper dual-screen mode in DS emulation for years, thankfully the 3DS devs are much more competent, and it's been available from the get for 3DS emulation, and it works perfectly on the Flip DS, someone who knows what they are doing will add proper DS mode to a DS emulator eventually, it's essential for some of the best DS games, like Retro Game Challenge and Retro Game Challenge 2, Sonic Colours, Zelda Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks and so on.
It will be added to MelonDS soon, it's on their road-map, and may now be expedited thanks to the Flip DS, Wii U also works perfectly, which also is home to tons of incredible Virtual Console games, there are also dual-screen arcade games, PC games, being able to use game trainers for your fave PC games on the bottom screen will be amazing, watching some videos while playing games, there are so many dope use cases for this thing, I canny wait to get one, only thing is, it doesn't have an OLED screen :(.
cool that they included a linus sized cable
"yup it's six feet, ohp he's short" ...the 6' wire check was so confusing for me being over six feet forgetting how short Linus is. 1:24
8:43 😂😂 this needs to be a meme🤣🤣
I've seen it used for Wii U emulation and its fantastic when it works
Slider joysticks are so much better than slightly smaller normal ones
12865 glorps in 30 zetabloogs? bro cronked off
That's fontazood my brukonka!
I like the addition of the extra buttons next to the top rockers
I'm normally not an Apple fan, but this thing makes the new M4 iPad Pro look like an absolute steal.
Linus really has an interesting way of saying "45-watt-hour". Must be a Canada thing.
If that TTS for the watthour is the plan for the LABS videos, I like it!
The MelonDS emulator gives me lots of options for displaying the screen practically any way I want.
The OG 3DS had amazing speakers. Probably the best I've heard on a portable device.
I have to admit, I like the form factor, but don't care for the second screen. The general shape and ergonomics for it as an Ally equivalent with one screen would be great though - being able to fold it shut to protect the screen and make it really portable in-bag is great. Is there a single-screened equivalent?
There's a version with a keyboard instead of a second screen
@@1726Meow Oh, interesting!
This screams Nintendo lawyers all over around. Nice.
Wulff Den has a good vid on this where he has a full top screen and bottom screen setup. (it's @11:45 in his vid)
This is cool because you don't need a case to protect the screen when you throw it in your bag like an Ally or Steam Deck.
Can't wait for second iteration of this to come out by the end of next week :)
getting those 2000s portable dvd player vibes
