I knit standard English so whilst watch your vlogmas I’m teaching myself continental using some cheap cheerful yarn and a stitch count for a cowl. 10rows knit 10 purl 10 moss stich repeat. So far (started knit English to get it moving) purl ok knit was entirely twisted for 1st row wish me luck with moss. Two at a time magic loop is easier than one thing on loop.
I see what you mean with the socks. I wouldn’t call them striped either. Kind of marled maybe? 🤷🏻♀️ I am looking forward to seeing them finished. I hope you did have the hot toddy and are feeling all better by Sunday night. Being sick over Christmas break just sucks.
Hello Martyn! Feel better. It’s not the best time for a cold, especially since crafters have so much to do. Bravo on your progress! I am behind on my projects but it will get done. Stay well!
There is a witch and an oven i Hänsel and Gretel. Maxbe you are makimg a bread and some flames? Thank you, Martyn, lovely watching you. Get well soon. By the way, you are an excellent writer with interesting thoughts!
Martyn, the afterthought or peasant afterthought heel would allow you to use all your yarn if you want, doesn’t require you to count rows and also doesn’t disrupt the striping sequence. I hope you both feel much better soon 😊
Hope you feel better soon. You could have picked up something on the train to Chester. (In Mark’s defense.) I now have only 5 work days (4.5 actually because we stop at noon on the last day) before I am off for a 2-week XMas Break. Can hardly wait.
Glad you’re on the upswing! Rough week!! … I love Hansel and Gretel… you may enjoy listening to the children’s opera by Engelbert Humperdinck… the music is wonderful and great for the holidays ❤
I will check out the written blog tomorrow morning. I’m trying to finish my one row before crashing for the night. It’s taken me almost 2 hours of sitting on the couch to pick up my needles. That’s how tired work and the dark have made me.
Hope you’re feeling better Martyn, and Mark! I’ve had a cough for about 3 weeks. Lots of crafting time though on these lazy weekends. You’re doing really well staying on track with your advents! I’ve chosen my projects but will probably start after Christmas or the new year. I do like your Vlogmas format with a few days in one, I often have to miss days with the daily ones I watch as I just don’t have time on that day, but I get there in the end.
Hansel and Gretel with the Toft advent boxes making the Gingerbread house?????? ...... Lol i had typed this before you said exactly the same 😂❤👍 PS love your Substack written blogs
Hi Martyn,, my voice always completely goes with either a cold or the plague! Husband loves it, but I get annoyed. Better this week than next. Maybe part of the witch? I can't believe you have never read Hansel and Gretel! I'm sure the nieces or nephew have a story book with it in. Have a fabulous weekend. xxJane 🎄🌼
Poor Martyn, there’s your sympathy as requested, you have had a week! The dolls are coming on really well, hopefully you will catch up on all the other projects next week.
Once again I was sneaking an Instagram peek when you popped on. Just finished my first ever mattress stitch to attach my Wham Bam Thank you Lamb fun holiday yarn cowl. It looks like a lumpy old mattress instead of a new one. Most people won’t notice. ??? Once again love the Toft Advent. Feel better, hope my Kill the cold meds kick in too.
I have a whole set of these from my lovely Danish friend I have never opened them out. They catch the smallest of breeze and scatter Christmas tree light all over the room.
With the straps I did mine with a cross back and the straps are an ok length. Yeah my dolls look off to the side, I thought I'd messed up the counts so good to know it's my tension, will remember that going forward!
I've been down with the lurgy too. Bit jealous of yours only lasting a couple of days - I'm still bark-coughing after a week! Get some clementines/satsumas in you, that'll do the trick!
Martyn your written blog is a joy and these videos are a welcome treat! So sorry you weren’t feeling well AND very happy you are on the mend! ( must have been that hot toddy that did the job 😉) I think under the circumstances your keeping up very well! My advice…..don’t let the weekend get away from you. I agree that your Toft might be Hansel and Gretel but not definitive. That third “item” is giving me pause. I’m off to work on my second pair of Advent socks, a pair of fingerless gloves (forever ribbing) AND a pair of BLACK gift socks (requested….NOT my idea) Hope you continue to feel better and are able to keep your crafting up to date! Looking forward to see how your doing!
Hope you feel better soon Martyn! Enjoying your vlogmas videos. Just seen your doll dress, I think there is a cross over in the straps at the back that will fix the length. Also, are you heading to Kew on Tuesday?! If so, I’ll see you then!
Happy Holidays! Do you have a sock ruler? I use that to determine where to start the heel. The fitting may become better for your socks as the ruler works best (perhaps definitely) for toe up socks. Hopefully you'll come to "team toe up". Oh, and Shadow Wrap Heel with Earthtones Girl.
Martyn, I love your vlogs and I am a subscriber for your substack written blog but I haven't got the one you posted today 😢 keep up the good work on your advents ❤
You underestimate yourself. You finish quite a lot of projects. The more we started, the more we finish. If you don’t start something it will never be finished 😅. An excuse to Cast On like mad!!
hello Martyn, the straps of the dress should be crossed on the back. I don't know if this is really important. thanks for sharing your advent-adventures with us.
Oh I don’t know what’s happened there? Is it just on my video or all UA-cam videos for you? I think I saw something from UA-cam saying they’ve now turned dubbing on for other non-English languages so perhaps it’s that setting?
@ It's been happening to so many UA-camrs since the beginning of December, Finish Knitting Stories were affected, the Creabea and more... It's somewhere in the settings when uploading the videos... For you, today is the first time. But I've set UA-cam now to English and updated it, now I have the original again :-) and that can't be topped :-)
@@suzane.7703 That would explain why, if I'm logged on, I don't have the same issue that you've just described. If I'm not logged on, everything comes up in German. I live in Germany, but my mothertongue is English - which is why my account is set to English. Odd. AI/KI might be intelligent, but it can't predict what we want!

Hi Martyn, sorry about your cold. Regarding your socks - have you thought about knitting a sock tube and adding an afterthought heel?
Glad you’re on the upswing! Rough week!! … I love Hansel and Gretel… you may enjoy listening to the children’s opera by Engelbert Humperdinck… the music is wonderful and great for the holidays ❤

Fantastic Vlog as always Martyn can't believe your nightmare journey to get to Chester
Loving your socks x

You see stripes if you do groups of three , group the pink as one stripe, then group the blue as a stripe it works

Hopefully you feel much better now Martyn.
You both feel better real soon. Get lots of rest, that's the best thing.
Poor Martyn, there’s your sympathy as requested, you have had a week! The dolls are coming on really well, hopefully you will catch up on all the other projects next week.
I love the written vlogs and look forward to receiving them. Have a good weekend both of you 🎄

Hope you feel better soon! A lot of UA-camrs are not happy with the Toft decorations! I don’t have this advent so can’t comment!
Oh I love the decorations, they’re a lovely addition to the tree!
I have a whole set of these from my lovely Danish friend I have never opened them out. They catch the smallest of breeze and scatter Christmas tree light all over the room.
Carbs fix everythingg❤
With the straps I did mine with a cross back and the straps are an ok length. Yeah my dolls look off to the side, I thought I'd messed up the counts so good to know it's my tension, will remember that going forward!
Get well soon! I think you're absolutely right about Hansel and Gretel. No bear in that story but there should be a witch
I've been down with the lurgy too. Bit jealous of yours only lasting a couple of days - I'm still bark-coughing after a week!

I've been saying Hansel and Gretel ever since you first showed the Gingerbread House on the boxes.
Get well soon, Martyn 🤧 There is a witch in the fairy tale Hänsel und Gretel...With a pointy straw hat; wearing 2 shawls over her humpback...😊🧙
You are an excellent writer!😊

Is there a witch or something in Hansel and Gretel?
Martyn, I love your vlogs and I am a subscriber for your substack written blog but I haven't got the one you posted today 😢 keep up the good work on your advents ❤
That was footage filmed on Monday morning, so hopefully you got that one earlier in the week?
You underestimate yourself. You finish quite a lot of projects. The more we started, the more we finish. If you don’t start something it will never be finished 😅. An excuse to Cast On like mad!!
Hansel and Gretel was my immediate thought when I saw the little girl with her pinafore.
Lucky me able to see you.😊
I think you are supposed to twist the tree ornaments Love the podcasts 😊
I’m too scared to do it haha
The straps on the dress should’ve been crossed in the back I believe then they wouldn’t seem so long, lol
Wasn't it supposed to crisscross at the back on the dress?
hello Martyn, the straps of the dress should be crossed on the back. I don't know if this is really important. thanks for sharing your advent-adventures with us.
Ahhhh, I didn’t watch that video I just followed the instructions - wrongly hahaha! Thanks for flagging, I’ll correct it over the weekend!
Just knit a tube until you are done your yarn and do an after thought heal.
Which of these stories do they get held hostage by a wicked witch? Was that not also Hansel and Gretel? So maybe you're starting the witch?
Hi, I’m sure your straps should be crossed at the back. 😘
Oh no also on your channel this automatic translation to German and that’s a „horror“ this KI-Voice :-(

Not sure what they're going to do I South Africa with our now 12 official languages!
Back to the „German“ version, even I switched UA-cam to English
