Glad you had that experience! I love the S5 for photography. I've used the Sigma 28-70 2.8 and the Lumix 85 1.8
Thanks for the comment Francis. I have fallin in love with the S5 and have hear the Sigma is almost the go-to lens for it. Did you happen to purchase the L-mount version of the Sigma?? Also love to hear that you are enjoying your S5. Cheers Sir
Who out their is rocking the S5 for photography??? If not whats your current setup? Cheers
Thanks for this review, one of the most helpful to me
Cheers Orange42. I'm pumped to hear this review was helpful. What camera are you currently shooting on??
Thank you for this, there are so few videos on the s5 for photography, as someone who doesn't do video it makes me feel like I am only using 10% of the cameras capabilities but thanks anyways!
Thanks VT, Cheers
Love this video! Yup this cameras can still kick ass...
Hi Lowell, I shoot stills with a LUMIX S camera (not the S5 currently) and an M43, the AF is up there with both, here’s how I setup my AF and what I find works very well for me: Single shot with AF on but with lens MF override with pip, I use back button focus too. I also use AFC with burst which is good good but I shoot motorcycle racing and the I often MF using zone focus too, all depends on the circumstance, face and eye is good but doesn’t work for all circumstance, you just have to be realistic with your expectations. Native Panasonic glass does make a difference, having said that Sigma’s glass is so good nowadays especially the DG DN, oddly the sharpest glass I have is the Sigma 50 f1.4 but it has the HSM focus which struggles for AF, but I use MF more often than not. I’m looking at the S5 for stills and lowlight and to explore video which is one reason that I found your great channel. Really interested in the stills side of the S5 though, especially lowlight. Thanks Lowell..👏
That Sigma 50mm f1.4 sounds amazing
Also was surprised with photo skills with the S5 I shoot fuji for photo but man S5 is a beast either way...thanks for the vid!
Thanks for the comment. Cheers
Wonderful review! Just curios about if the IS performs well on your setup because some people said that it can only be selected from the body IS or the lens IS
thank you !
Love this channel! Recently got a S5 as my HS graduation gift. I'm mainly an outdoor content shooter who just used autofocus on Canon M series cameras, so trying to up my skills in manual focus. I am building my rig for the S5 currently, I got the cage, handle, follow focus, mic, and aside from my monitor which is coming, and a portable power bank, I want to get another lens eventually. I'm fine sticking to my 20-60mm, but I want a lens with a longer focal length. I've looked into 85mm, which is okay, but I like 70-200, and with the adapter, and the 70-200 f4 would be about $600. Would this lens be good for video? I would plan to use manual focus most of the time, but AF occasionally I guess. Or if you have any other options that would work good, please let me know
Congrats on being an S5 shooter. Sounds like you have a sweet setup. I highly recommend saving the money and getting the 70-200mm with the adapter as you can still pick Ef mount glass rather cheap. As for AF with that combination for photography you will not run into any issues but for video AF is really rather poor. That being said I only pull focus manually for video and have not had any issues especially when using a monitor which it sounds like you have. Hopefully that helps you out. Cheers
Great video on the MC21 set up. So the autofocus works in photography with the canon lens?
Thanks Steve. So far I have no issues with the AF when using the sigma adapter with my canon glass. The only issue I may run into from time to time is center AF but I tend to use Facetracking and it works pretty solid.
Pls buy Sigma 45mm F2.8 L lens, best for wide angle portrait!
Nicely done...I use the S5 primarily to shoot video for my gospel group. Could you do a video on your approach to removing noise in Resolve/Premier pro? Thanks
Thanks for the comment Dan, and great to hear that you are using the S5 to film your gospel group. If you don't mind me asking what lens/lenses are you using to film with?? Also what picture profile are you typically using when filming. Cheers
@@LowellProductions 20-60 kit lens, Sigma 35mm DG DN f2 and Sigma 16mm DC DN f1.4. I am still trying to figure out what's the best profile to use. I love V Log outdoors with the GH Alex Lut. I have problems when it comes to interior video. For this reason I have been practicing with CineD lately. My indoor footage tends to be grainy and less pleasing. I am new to video. I think that I really need to get better at color grading and understanding lighting. Thanks for the feedback. All help is greatly appreciated 👍
The studio resolve has a very nice denoiser, very similar to neat video plugin. Have you tried shooting in HLG? Do you expose to the right a little (0.3, 0.7)?
@@orange42 Thanks for your response. Lately I have been using CinelikeD and I have been exposing to the right (+2/3). It seems to be more forgiving in low light etc. than VLOG. I have not tried HLG.
@@dancrosby6091 Ah yes cine d good too
Great videos! I've subscribed to your channel, love the "feets to earth" mindset where you just use what you've got unlinke other youtubers comparing "the latest and greatest lenses" that offer just 2% better performance for 1500$ more
Thanks Nucu for the positive vibes. If you dont mind me asking what camera/cameras and lenses are you currently filming with?? Cheers Sir
do these adapters work for AF-C? mainly in low light (concert).
Hey Lowell, great video. Which model of the 70-200 is that?
Thanks Mike. I'm pretty sure its the OG 70-200mm f4 version 1. I have had it for years and really have enjoyed the result, but I imagine if it were the Version II it would deliver even better results.
@@LowellProductions thanks. Yeah I'm looking at the f4 mark 2 or the 2.8 mark 2. Can't decide.
@@miketucker5379 I would treat yourself and get the f2.8 as the f4 is nice but getting down to 2.8 is a nice treat especially for low light situations
Hello, somebody knows something about the f control? Because i find that de canon 70-200 f2.8 Mark 1 dont have manual F, so i dont know if the sigma adaptor control only the autofocus, or also the F ???
thanks for this video, has anyone tried the Tamron 70 - 200 G2?
Do I also need the sigma adapter to use the Tamron 70-200 g2 ef mount?
And what about ISO 4000 ? IS the same?
Hey what’s the best lens for video and photography under 500 for the lumix s5
Every reviewer should make it clear in the title if it’s about photography or video.
So good to hear of an alternative to the expensive panasonic 70 200 2.8.. or f4. Would you still go for the canon and mount for the s5 or go with l mount glass? I'm going to be doing dog photography so might need 2.8?
Hey Mark, if your gonna be focusing on photography first, then video. I would choose native glass just to get the better AF results, which are slightly better than the adapter route. But like I mentioned in the video the AF is still solid with the adapter its just the native glass seemed to be a hair quicker when pulling/nailing focus. As for f2.8 its great to have but the S5 native ISO are 640 and 4000 which should mean you are fine in most situations even at f4. I even find myself shooting at ISO 6400 and still get rather good results. Cheers Mark
I photograph dance (low light / movement) Do you thing that de 70-200 f4 with the d5ii is enought ? or I need the 2.8 version?
If you have it in your budget I would try to get something lower than an F4 but you can still get the job done with the f4 for sure. Is your looking to save I still think you will get good results either way. Cheers
Hey Trey! I know this video has been made quite a while back, but how does the IBIS in the S5 work with the IS in the lens?
Hey Jeffery, in my experince with the S5 and canon glass that has Lens IS, typically if both the Lens IS + the camera IBIS is activated they both work and in my opinion get great results. I not gonna say that you wanna always shot fully handheld but when I add my monitor, vmount, cage, handle, etc. I find the handheld footage is very reliable even when shooting 24fps. I tend to sometimes add stabilization in post but most if the time the footage looks great even with out the extra editing. Hopefully that makes sense. I think if you have had any experience with the GH5 and its IS results you will be really happy with the S5. Cheers
Does the Panasonic allow for IBIS + IS in the lens to work together? I have read that for Sony, with the MC-11, you can't use both IBIS and IS at the same time.
Stabilization is 5 stops with IBIS and 6.5 with combined (Only few approved Lumix S lenses allow this additional)
5:13 6:55 7:10 7:20 gang shitzzzz
Should've ended the video with skrrr boom boom boom xDD
Love it, CHeers Shazz
How does the single point auto focus do while shooting events such as this? Could I shoot concerts with it?
I actually found the face detection to work much better than the single point AF, not sure why but that was my personal experience. Hopefully that helps you out. Cheers Jake.
Is there a way that I could get a Canon EFS 18-55mm lens to connect to the Lumix S5 with some type of adapter that doesn’t suck?
possibly you could look into the Sigma MC-21 adapter or you could look into the viltrox ef to L-mount adapter. that might work for you. Cheers
hi, first of all- your videos are very professional! my second income is shooting small events(video+stills) and short films, special for Elementary school(students are actors). i have the canon 6d2 and some good tamron lenses(15-30, 70-200, 24-70 all f2.8 g2 and 35mm 1.4). is upgrading to the s-5 safe?:)I'm very worried. some videographers told me to buy only canon body(R5,R6..) because the lenses wont work well with s-5 body. have to say that i dont like the af for stills of my 6d either!! not acurate at all. in the other hand, manual focus for photography(with adapter to my lenses) won't becomfortable at all.
what do you think? price here in my country for s-5+20-60 kit lens :2350$
So overall if you happen to purchase the S5 for photo and video I think you will be nothing but happy compared to the 6D, the pictures that S5 captures are amazing and I find I get very little grain even in low light situation shooting at an F4. For video I truly think you will be mind blown compared to your current setup. For photos + the mc-21 adapter + canon glass I found the AF to work rather well, but the true is the AF for video when paired up with the canon glass is crap, but its useable if your behind the camera, but definitely not great if your continuous just filming yourself. Cheers sir
The sigma 70-200 2.8 works with s5ii?
I want to upgrade my canon r to Panasonic s5. What are your thoughts this upgrade for hybrids shooter?
Overall I think you would be super happy on both the photo and video coming from the canon r. I'm 100% sure the S5 video features and resolutions will keep you busy for a while and panasonic IBIS is great. Also for photo, even when I used ef mount glass with the sigma speedbooster the AF was nice for photography. Overall the S5 has meet every need I have. Cheers Hsuman.
