    I’ve tested many pipes and with the stock can and a single tube pipe seems to give 8-10% over bone stock. The Rowdy pipes I’m building now (similar to the Bearclaw original design) give a noticeable increase over the pipe / can design and absolutely annihilate the stock muffler. Only 2 drawbacks are increased fuel usage and loud (but not any louder than a straight shot or a bark box). If I burn an extra $1 worth of gas I’d say it is well worth it for the increased production and enjoyment (snappier throttle / way more torque). A good set of earplugs or muff is definitely in order. I find that the output is deeper and more throaty with no high pitched sound like the others

      @@justinweaver8787 I’d say from seat of the pants it’ll give 5+% over a factory dual port which gives about 7-8% over the stock. Again I don’t have a Dyno to give precise numbers but I wood say 12% over stock peak torque. Way better throttle response and low-end grunt - only videoed the 272xp so some saws may gain more or less … the epa friendly saws may not pickup as much performance as an older non - stratos saw simply because of the design but there are other flow tricks you can use on the intake side to enhance the performance for sure!

      My 261 has a nununun when you let off the throttle like a dirt bike, they can be improved on but it's very hard cause they are factory made to be 50cc screamers, bigger saws are all about torque and low end and by porting and piping your making a saw run like your 50cc saw, higher end power but on big cc's

Possibly use a thicker flange you can put a bit more heat into the weld . I used 5mm stainless on the flange and tig welded that sucker . Strong as brother . Keep on keeping on Tinman it’s an interesting journey. 👍🏻🇦🇺

    Couple of things I would like to talk about, first is porting, you can modify the port timing by raising and lowering the top edge of the piston, called a performance piston, Also on a pipe your after a couple things, pipe volume which has to do with the cylinder volume, and then the size of the outlet, remember the biggest thing is you want the pipe to pulse and push back on the exhaust port so intake flow doesn't come pass the cylinder before it's burnt, love your channel and your enthusiasm, stay strong

  • @kennytheguitarfanatic054
    @kennytheguitarfanatic054 Рік тому +3

    Cool idea on that pipe! Muffler mods I have done on Husky 372's I found if you aim the exhaust pipe at about a 45 degree angle and up a little you lose some exhaust savaging meaning you lose pull in the cut. I found if you use a stock muffler but use a 3/4 pipe. To encourage exhaust savaging I aim the pipe about a 90 degree angle from the cylinder. It seems to have nice pop at idle better throttle response and better pull in the cut and make the saw run pig rich so have to lean the hi jet out a bit.

  • @230e4
    @230e4 Рік тому +1

    I am using the old style 372xp muffler with a 3/4" pipe no top outlet on a 390xp. I have been wanting to experiment with the newer muffler like yours with a 3/4" pipe and run it with the factory top port open and then blocked off with a piece of sheet metal in place of the screen to see if it favors the dual port or not on my stock 372 x-torque. I suspect the top port being open may actually hurt the performance, it would be an easy test with the muffler you have. It would be interesting to test a pipe design like your brothers pipe with a single outlet instead of duals as well, coming out the bar side like the pipe on your stock muffler. I would like to make Ironhorse's basic pipe with a single outlet and try that sometime as well. It would be nice if someone would take the time to perfect a design that works great on a work saw and sell them.

  • @jimharmon3404
    @jimharmon3404 Рік тому

    Just a word about test failures... there is no such thing! You had a device failure and you learned a few things along the way. That is exactly how things are on the road to invention. Never stop testing and developing a better pipe!
    Your work reminds me of work an old friend of mine did in ham radio with tuned cavity filters. They resonate at very narrow but adjustable frequency not unlike what you are doing with that exhaust.
    I suggest you experiment with a pipe that is way longer than you think you need. Install a disk on a threaded rod such that you can adjust the volume of the cavity in that pipe. That makes effectively a adjustable whistle.
    You can then tune it to the engine for max performance. Then you will know what size pipe to make.
    I look forward to your next experiment.

    As you said it makes it run lean, you need to make the outlet of your pipe smaller, edit, the smaller outlet will give the exhaust a pulse and push back on the exhaust port, stopping the fresh intake air from flowing out of the saw before the piston comes back up to shut off the port

    I think a lot of people that mess with pipes on saws don't know a ton about 2 strokes and what the pipe actually does. Not saying that is you. Spot-on statement about the chainsaws operating temperature. Go to far with compression and machining the saw could exceed that temperature and actually LOSE power.
