How To Use HID Mode with Pioneer CDJ-2000s & Serato DJ Pro

- Many DJs who use DVS as their primary form of digital DJing frequently find themselves in front of a Pioneer CDJ setup. The normal method of using CDJs with DVS is using timecode on either CDs or USB flash drives. But there is a better method that gives you way more control - it's called HID mode.
In this video, we show you how to set HID mode up using CDJs and a laptop.

Thanks, this was one of my favorite trick on this channel, even tho I was already aware of HID mode and how to connect CDJs to Serato DJ Pro on my laptop. HID mode is definitely an amazing feature, it brings so many advantages to timecode DVS and even CDJs in standalone mode. However, it's important to note that with Serato, you will always have to connect a Serato DJ primary hardware (mixer, interface or controller) to bring the Software into performance mode, before you can connect your CDJs!

So for Serato I would need sl2, usb’s and hub. Do you still need timecode cd’s?
it is cool. I have an older CDJ-850 and it still works. works great on Rekorbox. but also works in serato pro, though the jog response is better on the Rekorbox software
I'm in total agreement with you. I don't use DVS, but I use hid mode with serato all the time with nxs2000 decks all the time. No need for thumb drives. Great video 👍. Keep up the great work.

And this is why I use Traktor! You can connect anything you want as controller to do whatever you need... Also the audio can come from the cdj's or from the mixer or any other soundcard. Plus you can DJ with a couple of nexus players, add some pads and a ps4 controller to browse or trigger effects... If it has midi/hid you can plug it in :p
Great video, been thinking about this for a while instead of using my SL4 box, and this video has convinced me to do it now!! Just wondering is there any difference whether the gear is NEXUS 1 or 2, and is a full licence for Serato needed? When I use Serato it's either with my SL box or a Controller (VCI 380) both of which act as dongles for the software. I use Rekordbox DJ too which is licensed with a code, so I'm pretty sure this will work, but I still prefer Serato to be honest. Oh and any recommendations on a decent powered usb hub will be useful? I'll be using it with a MacBook Pro late 2011 running mac OS High Sierra.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to run say 2CDJS in HID mode and also have 2 turntables as DVS simultaneously for 4 deck control?

How do I record in HID mode? Unfortunately my record function in Rekordbox does not work in this function.
Ultimately any advice on how to record through Rekordbox would be highly appreciated! Setup is a DJM2000 mixer with 2 x CDJ 2000s
Thanks for the video. Do the other features (samples, loop roles etc) work on the queue point buttons on the CDJ when in HID mode?
No the hot cue buttons on the CDJ are just for hot cues :)
isn't there also one more USB cable that should be going from the computer to a slot on the mixer? Think you guys forgot to mention this but I could be wrong

Will this work with the original CDJ2000 and is there any drivers or anything that needs to be installed on the laptop to make this work with Serato?

I use a licensed controller at home so to make this work in a club all I would need is a full serato licence plus the drivers for the mixer and cdj's correct?
the club mixer is almost definitely Serato anyway

It works on Rekordbox too - we have a separate video showing that coming.
Just to clarify for those curious the USB cords being used are USB A-male to B-males if I'm not mistaken
if you have multiple djs and djs are using cdj's regular with control cd's and you're using hid any issues with changeovers and stuff?
You just have to make sure you have a way to keep the music going whilst things are getting plugged in/out - take a look at what is in the booth and plan ahead!
@@digitaldjtips I know that if you unplug the hub the cdjs are connected to it'll keep playing in internal, I guess just hot swap the hub to the other computer and re-link them? Was hoping there was a safer way...
Not sure I like the Serato influence in this equation . . . shouldn't Recordbox provide this feature or am I missing some technical details?
You can do this with all types of software, but in this video we're demoing Serato.

What if you’re using a mixer that doesn’t have a USB out
then you just can use your laptop like a big usb flash drive. With HID mode the CDJ control your software in your laptop. From your laptop the sound will sent to the mixer in HID mode.
Without HID mode the laptop sent the music to your CDJ were you control the music. The CDJ sent the music to the mixer with a rca cable.
