Fogerty never had been to the south, Louisiana or the bayou when he wrote this song. This is his view of what the bayou would look and feel like…. He nailed it!!! People are shocked to hear he was from Cali and never went to the Deep South. At one point CCR was right in the Beatles heels! My dad raised me on these guys and we still ride around and listen to them. One of the greatest rock bands of all time! Also… that rickenbacker is legendary! 🎸
CCR has so many great classic rock songs, John started a solo career in the 90's and had some great songs like Centerfield and the old man down the road. I always think of my mom when I hear born on the bayou, one of her favorite songs. She has good taste in music.
The look on people's faces when they first hear Fogerty singing on "Born on the Bayou", especially if they've never heard Creedence before, is priceless. The song is a great example of something simple executed to perfection. It's just 3 simple chords, and the rhythm guitar is hanging on the E chord almost all of the time. The tremolo and tone of the guitars is perfect, thick and crunchy. The bass line is really fun, just the right amount of cowbell and clap track (or whatever that is), simple lyrics but still brilliant and to the point, even inventing a new word (chooglin'), and that Voice! Try listening on headphones and just focus on any one instrument to appreciate this.
Be careful Britt...the CCR rabbit hole is as deep and formidable as any artist out there. And it's all quite tasty. The choice is yours. Keep up the amazing work!!!
You would NEVER believe after listening to CCR that they were not Southern from Louisiana. I call it "swamp rock". Fabulous voice & great overall musicianship.
As opposed to Swamp Pop. If you're not familiar with Swamp Pop you'll be surprised. Pure Louisiana style that had a huge influence. After you listen to some, note that Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant is a fan and even toured with a Swamp Pop band from Lafayette called Lil' Band of Gold.
CCR covered "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" originally released by Gladys Knight & the Pips and later by Marvin Gaye. It was another hit for CCR not only because of John Fogerty's southern fried vocals but his lead guitar filled in much of the 11 minutes of the song.
They are my all-time favorite group! They have the best sound. Try Fortunate Son. CCR will leave you wanting more. Very popular with OUR soldiers during the Vietnam War.
We saw John Fogerty play a sold out show at Red Rocks last weekend. It's just amazing that at the ripe old age of 78 his voice still carries almost the same power and grit that he had back in '69 when Born on the Bayou was recorded. And he still has the range! For a baritone this song is kind of high to sing, and he can still do it all the way through. Fantastic show. I read in an interview with the drummer Doug Clifford that he felt this song was his best recording. Creedence was considered to be the American version of the Beatles.
Lucky you! I love Fogerty and I love Red Rocks. Great acoustics there, such a cool place. I once fell down the steps that lead down to behind the stage. 😂
CCR has so many iconic songs, Favorite Son, Lodi, I Put A Spell On You, Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Have You Ever Seen the Rain...many, many more. You will not be disappointed in this quintessential American band.
And...Lodi is in California...for what ever that's worth. When I was 18 to about 23, I road Greyhound a lot around my State. Logged a lot miles between the far west of Washington State and Idaho Border where my university was. And other destinations. Believe me, there is a lot of Lodi's to get suck in.
I saw John Fogerty about 12 years ago, at a music festival. I knew his music catalog was vast, but still was amazed. It was like, “I know this one, I know this one”. It was hit, after hit, after hit. It was an amazing show, on a perfect summer night.
John Fogerty has been blessed with a voice that has held for a very long time.He wrote most all of the songs and was the primary and lead vocalist. His solo career was just as inspiring as his group efforts. He still tours and his voice has finally wealening but then again he is 78 years old now too. BTW,your voice is barely audible but the music video is the right volume.
Their sound is even more magical when you realize they’re from good ole California. Cuz it’s as real as magic that they’re from the Bayou. But, man, they sure capture the sound😊
Their actually from CA, was out late 60s. John Fogerty is one of the greatest singers ever. The whole band is terrific I'm listening to music over 60 years they are my favorite group yet. Their first hit was Suzie Q in 68 and hit after hit followed. Their 🔥🔥🔥 FIRE songs r I heard it thru the Grapevine, Fortunate Son, I put a Spell on You, Traveling Band Up around the Bend and Night Time is the Right Time Their in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and surely deserve being there
I saw ccr live in 68 or 69. Best live concert I've ever been to. Every song was as good live as recorded. Perfection, no lasers, no fireworks, no computers, just pure talent. They were from the bay area around San Francisco.
If you go down the Creedence rabbit hole they have some of the most amazing songs and rhythms. I love their "I put on spell on you", their version of "I heard it through the grapevine" and of course all their classics, they were just an incredible band.
I saw CCR on July 11, 1971 in Detroit along with Bo Diddley and Tower of Power. CCR was active only 4 years, but released tons of hits in those 4 short years. Definitely one of the best bands ever and their music can be heard in many movies.
Out of all the reactions I've been watching regarding CCR's Born on the Bayou, I must say, yours is the most authentic review, with authentic reactions. Thank you for your work.
I can remember listening to Credence in 1968 when i was five, my older brother had an early Album of theirs and a really good Pioneer sound system, used to drive the neighbors up the wall ... i'm sixty now and i still get that same feeling listening to them as i did when i was five!... it's weird being sixty, i'm now the same age as old people!!!
His voice is amazing..and his playing is just as good. All of car's music is unbelievable including their cover of "I heard it through the grapevine " is amazing! They are from California but you would never know that by their sound!! One of my all time favorite bands..so underrated.
One aspect of CCR that often goes unmentioned is their superb rhythm section. Doug Clifford on drums and Stu Cook on bass are as tight a rhythm section in rock and roll that you will find. Plus there's Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar. Doug Clifford in particular is one of my favourite drummers.
I couldn’t agree more than the Cajun/Creole/American South Louisiana culture is mystical, magical, and has the damn goodest cuisine. I luv CCR and was shocked to learn they were from California.
John is a legend, he has solo albums too, after his 10 year hiatus to scorn his record company, THE OLD MAN IS DOWN THE ROAD, ROCK & ROLL GIRLS, SAW IT ON TV.
"Proud Mary" is great - Damn almost everything they did was great! Tina Turner did a great cover of proud mary as well. sixties was amazing time for music
They are actually from southern California, but dang his vocals are straight up southern to the soul❤❤❤ this is my favorite❤you wont find a bad ccr song. Johns vocal capabities❤❤fabulous.
This was my parents go to album anytime they threw a party in the late 60s to mid 70s. When this Album was on everyone was dancing. Great decade for music. 2 others you might know are Brandy and Smoke from a distant fire. Both thier voices are unique and awesome The performances on the Midnight Special are best.
They formed in California in the 60's. Huge hit with Fortunate Son a anti Vietnam song during all the unrest. Many other songs are good. They were very popular.
My favorite CCR song by far. They were around for maybe 2-3 years, but put out 7 albums in that short period. As a few others have said dig into their music.
The whole album Bayou Country is fire. One of my favorite albums by any artist, not just CCR. Graveyard Train and Penthouse Pauper are great deep cuts that get overlooked.
In 1969 I had just graduated from college, and taken a new job working for the man. On a Saturday night, on my way home after a bit of partying, windows down, and listening to the local AM station, the DJ introduced a new song. 30 seconds in and I had the sound cranked as loud as I could get my poor little car radio to go. The song was Oh Susie Q, and it was that distinctive beat that you hear on so many of their songs and that you are hearing on this one. So many great rock artists are easily identifiable by their voice, but CCR always had that unique beat. By the end of the song I was singing aloud with them, and I predicted they would be the next big thing.
Bayou Country released in January 1969. I'm playing lead guitar in a Bay Area cover band at that time. I learn the songs off the album and we incorporate many into our set list. In March we go see them at Fillmore West with Jethro Tull 2nd on the bill. This was before they really broke nationally. One could walk up to the box office and get a ticket same day. In May, we go see them again. Both times they tear it up. What a lucky time to be a young man in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Sure its calming Darlin, it takes you in your mind to a slow moving body of water, quietly paddling, or laying back reclining, in a piro. Flat bottom canoe basically, with low sides, with the hum and buzz of insects, quiet rustling of critters, the splash of a gar fish, or alligator sliding into the water. Soothing ASMR with an overdose of serotonin. That's CCR.
1969. Graduated high school. And this music was EVERYwhere !!! So fortunate (son!) Heck! When we did our senior trip to Disneyland (a Thing back then) and had the park just for seniors ( from all over SoCal) All Night.... there was a legitimate rock band playing.... and we made them play THIS SONG.... over and over and over so we could all just dance to it !!! One. Great. Memory!
They all grew up in El Cerrito, California, here in the SF Bay Area, a few blocks from my house. John Fogarty wrote so many great songs. This was released in 1969.
It's not where your from but where you at. Embracing the music and culture. CCR is a one in a lifetime band. Blessed to be old enough to remember the time the song was released and trust and believe all the house parties played it.
CCR became popular when I was in high school (& we danced our lil' asses off to this song) & we all thought they were absolutely Bayou born & bred. It was years later when I found out they were from California & I STILL can't wrap my head around it! Btw, I love your voice & really enjoy your mini-singalongs or when you point out little things with your singing voice. So talented! And now you need to react to "Green River". One of CCR's best & most beloved songs. And it will take you to the Bayou just like this song did. Much love from Kentucky. 💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙
Saw John Fogerty in Las Vegas a few years ago. Still has the voice, the stage presence, and the energy! Awesome show!! Did you know they played at Woodstock???
Britt Former members tried to sue John Fogerty of using his voice on his solo music, but judge denied their lawsuit because they can't copyright John Fogerty's voice. His voice is so iconic. Like others have said, "at 78, his voice is still strong"
INCORRECT ! Band members DID NOT sue my Uncle John. That was the owner of the record label Fantasy Records, his name is Saul Zaentz. My dad Tom and Doug and Stu DID NOT sue my Uncle John.....
CCR, the ultimate garage band. All the guys attended El Cerrito HS north of SF. John, the singer and Tom were brothers. Cook, the bass player, sat in back of Clifford the drummer in 7th grade home room class. That’s how they met. They went through multiple name changes from Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets, to The Golliwogs (ugh) and finally CCR. Tom left the band in 71 and the whole band broke up in 72. What fantastic music they produced.
Sometime around 1973 or '74, John Fogerty was at Creedence Clearwater Revival's rehearsal space in San Francisco. The band had recently broken up, and the successful guitarist/songwriter didn't really know what lay ahead-at least beyond his new album at the time, The Blue Ridge Rangers. Two 12-year-old kids-apparently named Rick and Louie-were hanging out at the rehearsal space, and Fogerty decided to give his 1969 Rickenbacker 325 to Louie. The Rick had been his main CCR guitar for several years; he used it for pretty much every standard-tuning song on every Creedence album from 1969's Bayou Country through 1972's Mardi Gras. It's the guitar he played at Woodstock and on The Ed Sullivan Show, the guitar that can be heard on "Green River," "Travelin' Band," "Up Around the Bend" and many more. Forty-four years later John got his old Rickenbacker back, still in very good condition, still able to play it great.
When I moved to Georgia from California to work, 40+ years ago, I thought I knew what to expect when I drove my family to our new home. Boy, was I surprised and pleased as I drove through Louisiana! I’ve been back to the New Orleans area several times, and I’ve been happy every time!
Smiling and anxious, I was waiting for you to hear John Fogerty's voice. and I really loved your reaction, those facial gestures and your spontaneous and sincere expression. Something similar happened to me since the first time I heard that singular voice in 1988 when I was 8 years old, I'm mexican, native of La Paz, Baja California Sur, México. and it was because of this band that I decided to learn english from then on.
Legendary band songs I enlisted in the Australian Army in 1967 in Vietnam in 1970 this song is part of the soundtrack of my life. This song carries so many memories for me. I have several albums they get a good workout. 😊
Britt, thank you for digging this one up!! I served on US Navy ships for several years during the Vietnam era off the coast of Vietnam supporting our aircraft flying off the carriers. Several other electronics techs and I talked our bosses into letting us build a "Radio Station" on our ship. We actually got an affiliation with the Armed Services Radio & TV Network in the course of this endeavor. Of course, we had to get the ship's Captain's permission to "repurpose" the print shop so we asked him to spin the first record on "KFOX" when we got it all wired and running. He thought that would be cool. Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary" was the first record we broadcast (closed circuit, within the ship) but Captain Bowlan didn't know "Creedence Clearwater Revival" from a door stop. His heart was in the right place though. I keyed the mike for him, and he announced "Here's Clarence Creedwater with Proud Mary." We struggled not to laugh. He was a great skipper and a really nice guy but I guess we all listened to different music!! We broadcast KFOX Radio for the next couple of years every WESTPAC Cruise we made. John Fogarty and "Clarence Creedwater" were one of the favorites along with most of the other popular music of the late sixties and early seventies.
What ship, I worked flight deck on the Enterprise and Kitty Hawk during the 70's and 80's, music like CCR got us through some long out at sea periods, and certain songs put me right back on the ship, the smell of JP and the sounds of the cat shots, and afterburners. Press on Shipmate..
@@davidgross990 After 2 1/2 years of ET-A School and several C-Schools, I served on board the USS Fox DLG33 for 3 years and then 3 more years on shore duty/ET-B School in San Diego. After B-School, I served two more years on USS Reeves CG24, out of Pearl Harbor. We did have a bit of JP on board for the helos and our "miniature flight deck." It wasn't much compared to the Enterprise but it could hold our two helos. The Fox came back from WESTPAC with the Enterprise in '70 or '71. I think that cruise finished in '71. It's good to hear from someone who was there about the same time. -Gary
The word soooo many folks use to describe this band, this singer, this music is SWAMPY. A perfectly chosen word. So many great song. Pick any one and you won’t be disappointed.
The Band CCR, was a great band. John Forgerty was born in Berkley, CA. He is a big Oakland A's fan. There were issues with CCR, the Drummer and other members of the band broke up and for at least 10 years he could not play CCR live. He then got the rights back and is able to play all of his CCR tunes live. His voice is amazing. He has visited the south bayou after writing the song.I saw him twice. Best show I have seen.
From age 6-13 I grew up in Louisiana, and these guys were huge there! We felt like they we our brothers! The skating rink was the place to be on Friday night and the rink filled up to any CCR song! Such great memories!
They were a supernova. Right up there with the Beatles and Elvis, just not for as long. 14 consecutive top 10 hits and 5 consecutive top 10 albums in a 3 year span.
CCR guys from CA! Yep, sounds like he could be from the bayou! Just saw John Fogerty last nite here in ATL! He’s amazing. Hit after hit! Yes sung this tune…..👏🏻🎶
Great reaction. Did you notice the long curly to Guitar chord? This was before Wireless and just like phone cords started to become available in the 70s which could stretch further but would contract to a much shorter distance than a regular cable, and he was using one on his guitar. I think it was white.
They are a really, really great band that I believe never really got the full appreciation they rightly deserved. They were up there at the very top. They released great numbers such as Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, and Have you Ever Seen The Rain, phenomenal.
I've got about 10,000 record albums. The very first one I ever bought was CCRs Cosmos Factory when I was 7. I saw them doing Up and Around the Bend on American Bandstand and had to have it. Still got it. Listen to their version of I Heard it thru the Grapevine. FIRE!!
This song is from 1969, and the group started (( as CCR)) about 1967 or '68. My favorite band in High School. They were from Northern California, I believe. John Fogerty on lead and Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar. Also with Stu Cook and Doug Clifford.
I was back in the green room at Winteland San Francisco 1968. My friends were playing first before CCR. There were 2 green rooms, everyone was partying pretty hard. Great music and fun times.
John Fogerty has an insanely incredible voice and it is just as crazy when he is talking to you,. No John is not from the bayou. He and his brother started in the Bay Area in the 60's. His brother was my neighbor when I lived in Northern California. He would come and visit and my brother in law would be invited over because his brother's daughter's had a crush on him and he got to meet him many times in the 15 years we lived there. He said that his brother worked at a pizza parlor when he was starting out and that is why he was able to keep playing music until he was discovered. Really nice guy.
Britt, quit it already with the honest reactions! You kill me with your ability to genuinely get captivated by such diverse musical selections and genres! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT. An old soul after my own heart. I really appreciate people who APPRECIATE good music, no matter the genre! YOU ROCK, GIRL!👍👍❤❤
Creedence Clearwater Revival is a San Francisco band originating just across the bay from SF. I grew up in that area in the 60's and 70's and SF was the best place in the world for rock and roll.
Swamp rock! And yeah, cultures embedded in quirky difficult places are indeed magical. And places like cat swamps and such are mysterious and dangerous.
They are California boys who somehow became all time great swamp rockers!
Fogerty never had been to the south, Louisiana or the bayou when he wrote this song. This is his view of what the bayou would look and feel like…. He nailed it!!! People are shocked to hear he was from Cali and never went to the Deep South. At one point CCR was right in the Beatles heels! Roger McGuinn of the Birds also played a Rickenbacker, and so did John Lennon.
He nailed it perfectly.❤❤. 😅
John Fogerty was from the bayou in another life.
Not only was he not from the South - he grew up in the SF Bay Area - El Cerrito - 5 miles north of Berkeley
CCR has so many great classic rock songs, John started a solo career in the 90's and had some great songs like Centerfield and the old man down the road. I always think of my mom when I hear born on the bayou, one of her favorite songs. She has good taste in music.

The tremolo and tone of the guitars is perfect, thick and crunchy. Try listening on headphones and just focus on any one instrument to appreciate this.
Beautiful! You would’ve been a great “ liner notes” writer!
@@TheDivayenta Thanks.
The drummer has such a funky groove going…perfectly suited to this tune.
They were as unique as you can get,and as great or greater than the Beatles.so many terrific songs it’s hard to choose a favorite.
You miss some of it, if you don't hear it on good stereo speakers. A lot of music in that era was recorded in quad or stereo sound.
Be careful Britt...the CCR rabbit hole is as deep and formidable as any artist out there. And it's all quite tasty. The choice is yours. Keep up the amazing work!!!
John Fogerty, the singer/songwriter, wrote "Proud Mary", which Tina Turner covered so amazingly well!
You would NEVER believe after listening to CCR that they were not Southern from Louisiana. I call it "swamp rock". Fabulous voice & great overall musicianship.
"Swamp rock" reminds me of Jim Stafford

Love that you and others do these reaction vids to the past generations, to keep them alive! Tfs! 😍
That's CCR.
From El Cerrito CA across from San Francisco and a few miles from Oakland and Berkeley.
Tina's "Proud Mary" was a cover of their original. Like The Eagles, they came from California.
One. Great. Memory!
John Fogerty had one hell of a voice!!!!!!!!
Had ??
This is from Bayou Country released in 1969 , I have the vinyl and sang myself time and time again, I sound just like that voice 👍👍
I love this song, please listen to their song " proud mary".
They all grew up in El Cerrito, California, here in the SF Bay Area, a few blocks from my house. John Fogarty wrote so many great songs. This was released in 1969.
This band is from California, but clearly identifies as southern rock.
Some even call this swamp music
The only band I've bought all the singles and LP's from. Then later all CD's. Some of the best of my teenage years and I still love it. 🥰
Funny cause he never left California when writing all these songs lol
I hate when artist do this.
The saying is as old as the hills...but it remains forever true. You can't judge a book by its cover.
Gran tema me encanta saludos desde Uruguay 🇺🇾❤😊
Saw John Fogerty in Las Vegas a few years ago. Still has the voice, the stage presence, and the energy! Awesome show!! Did you know they played at Woodstock???
Britt
Former members tried to sue John Fogerty of using his voice on his solo music, but judge denied their lawsuit because they can't copyright John Fogerty's voice.
Tech wannabe ie:
This album and their music was a part of the background sound track of my 70's.
Shocker he is from Berkeley, California and the band is to they went to school together
That was a really cool story. Thanks for serving and sharing that, brother. 👍

The word soooo many folks use to describe this band, this singer, this music is SWAMPY. A perfectly chosen word. So many great song. Pick any one and you won’t be disappointed.
I only learned of this song because they used it for the show Swamp People. Been obsessed since. Every time I hear it. I get so excited lol
John Fogerty and his brother Tom are from El Cerrito California in the Bay Area !
They were a supernova. Right up there with the Beatles and Elvis, just not for as long. 14 consecutive top 10 hits and 5 consecutive top 10 albums in a 3 year span.
My number 1, favorite band of all time.
He would hang around rivers in Northern California. Another song Green River was inspired by that also.
I think it was white.
arguably one of the best rock voices ever
They are a really, really great band that I believe never really got the full appreciation they rightly deserved. They were up there at the very top. They released great numbers such as Bad Moon Rising, Proud Mary, and Have you Ever Seen The Rain, phenomenal.
All-time fave group! Still have their albums and play them often🙂
@ 0:54 IKR!!!! Same here, that line and this song let u know CCR is 🔥
Britt, quit it already with the honest reactions!
