Fogerty never had been to the south, Louisiana or the bayou when he wrote this song. This is his view of what the bayou would look and feel like…. He nailed it!!! People are shocked to hear he was from Cali and never went to the Deep South. At one point CCR was right in the Beatles heels! My dad raised me on these guys and we still ride around and listen to them. One of the greatest rock bands of all time! Also… that rickenbacker is legendary! 🎸
Roger McGuinn of the Birds also played a Rickenbacker, and so did John Lennon.
He nailed it perfectly.❤❤. 😅
John Fogerty was from the bayou in another life.
Not only was he not from the South - he grew up in the SF Bay Area - El Cerrito - 5 miles north of Berkeley
CCR has so many great classic rock songs, John started a solo career in the 90's and had some great songs like Centerfield and the old man down the road. I always think of my mom when I hear born on the bayou, one of her favorite songs. She has good taste in music.
The look on people's faces when they first hear Fogerty singing on "Born on the Bayou", especially if they've never heard Creedence before, is priceless. The song is a great example of something simple executed to perfection. It's just 3 simple chords, and the rhythm guitar is hanging on the E chord almost all of the time. The tremolo and tone of the guitars is perfect, thick and crunchy. The bass line is really fun, just the right amount of cowbell and clap track (or whatever that is), simple lyrics but still brilliant and to the point, even inventing a new word (chooglin'), and that Voice! Try listening on headphones and just focus on any one instrument to appreciate this.
Beautiful! You would’ve been a great “ liner notes” writer!
@@TheDivayenta Thanks.
The drummer has such a funky groove going…perfectly suited to this tune.
They were as unique as you can get,and as great or greater than the Beatles.so many terrific songs it’s hard to choose a favorite.
Their version of "I put a spell" on you is amazing.
Also recommend.
The best in my opinion
It is fantastic!
Agree 200%😊
Yessssss!! So good
Be careful Britt...the CCR rabbit hole is as deep and formidable as any artist out there. And it's all quite tasty. The choice is yours. Keep up the amazing work!!!
John Fogerty, the singer/songwriter, wrote "Proud Mary", which Tina Turner covered so amazingly well!
CCR covered "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" originally released by Gladys Knight & the Pips and later by Marvin Gaye. It was another hit for CCR not only because of John Fogerty's southern fried vocals but his lead guitar filled in much of the 11 minutes of the song.
We saw John Fogerty play a sold out show at Red Rocks last weekend. It's just amazing that at the ripe old age of 78 his voice still carries almost the same power and grit that he had back in '69 when Born on the Bayou was recorded. And he still has the range! For a baritone this song is kind of high to sing, and he can still do it all the way through. Fantastic show. I read in an interview with the drummer Doug Clifford that he felt this song was his best recording. Creedence was considered to be the American version of the Beatles.
Lucky you! I love Fogerty and I love Red Rocks. Great acoustics there, such a cool place. I once fell down the steps that lead down to behind the stage. 😂
Jelly!
CCR has so many iconic songs, Favorite Son, Lodi, I Put A Spell On You, Proud Mary, Bad Moon Rising, Have You Ever Seen the Rain...many, many more. You will not be disappointed in this quintessential American band.
Don't forget Run Through the Jungle.
Fortunate Son
And...Lodi is in California...for what ever that's worth. When I was 18 to about 23, I road Greyhound a lot around my State. Logged a lot miles between the far west of Washington State and Idaho Border where my university was. And other destinations.
Believe me, there is a lot of Lodi's to get suck in.
John Fogerty has been blessed with a voice that has held for a very long time.He wrote most all of the songs and was the primary and lead vocalist. His solo career was just as inspiring as his group efforts. He still tours and his voice has finally wealening but then again he is 78 years old now too.
BTW,your voice is barely audible but the music video is the right volume.
They are my all-time favorite group! They have the best sound. Try Fortunate Son. CCR will leave you wanting more. Very popular with OUR soldiers during the Vietnam War.
Mine too!
Everything they did was great, one of my top bands too.
Vietnam war...... The only war with its own soundtrack. Lol
john foggerty solo without ccr is so much better
Not so much JZ
Creedence as a Band were the complete Bomb
I saw John Fogerty about 12 years ago, at a music festival. I knew his music catalog was vast, but still was amazed. It was like, “I know this one, I know this one”. It was hit, after hit, after hit. It was an amazing show, on a perfect summer night.
You would love their "Run Through The Jungle", extended version. Leave yourself some dance room....
Creedence Clearwater Revival was the most popular band the World from 1969 to 1971 😎
When this records was new in 1969, I heard this song by them when I was 8 years old, and I was hypnotized forever by them and a big fan ever since. Then finding out they grew up and lived less than a few miles from me, and seeing a couple of them roaming around town here in Oakland, made me proud to be from the Bay Area too.
Fogerty's voice just reaches out and grabs you. He does not hold back.
You need to hear their version of "I put A Spell On You."
"I Put a Spell On You" - CCR will blow you away with that one. One of the greatest groups from this era and they inspired many that followed them.
There is only one group like CCR, totally unique. They STILL work today.
This band got me through some very dark times. They spoke to my generation particularly Vietnam Veterans. By the way they’re from Northern California.
Graduated high school in 1975. Grew up listening to this era of fantastic music!!!
The saying is as old as the hills...but it remains forever true. You can't judge a book by its cover.
Their actually from CA, was out late 60s. John Fogerty is one of the greatest singers ever. The whole band is terrific I'm listening to music over 60 years they are my favorite group yet. Their first hit was Suzie Q in 68 and hit after hit followed. Their 🔥🔥🔥 FIRE songs r I heard it thru the Grapevine, Fortunate Son, I put a Spell on You, Traveling Band Up around the Bend and Night Time is the Right Time Their in Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and surely deserve being there
This man could sing nursery rhymes with conviction
Out of all the reactions I've been watching regarding CCR's Born on the Bayou, I must say, yours is the most authentic review, with authentic reactions. Thank you for your work.
I saw ccr live in 68 or 69. Best live concert I've ever been to. Every song was as good live as recorded. Perfection, no lasers, no fireworks, no computers, just pure talent. They were from the bay area around San Francisco.
Sooooo many hits..CCR... the only band that can fill a double album set with all hits... Great music. Bayou soul... Great reaction. Thank you.
CCR is one of the greatest bands of the 60's and 70's. Love, love this song. Groovy for sure! ❤
If you go down the Creedence rabbit hole they have some of the most amazing songs and rhythms. I love their "I put on spell on you", their version of "I heard it through the grapevine" and of course all their classics, they were just an incredible band.
My sweet husband's most favorite group ‼️‼️💯
RIP ANTHONY....MISS YOU MY LOVE
❣️❣️❣️💔
CCR is a Bay Area (SF) band. They used to play off the back of a flatbed truck. They literally were "Willie and the Poor Boys."
I can remember listening to Credence in 1968 when i was five, my older brother had an early Album of theirs and a really good Pioneer sound system, used to drive the neighbors up the wall ... i'm sixty now and i still get that same feeling listening to them as i did when i was five!... it's weird being sixty, i'm now the same age as old people!!!
John is a legend, he has solo albums too, after his 10 year hiatus to scorn his record company, THE OLD MAN IS DOWN THE ROAD, ROCK & ROLL GIRLS, SAW IT ON TV.
I couldn’t agree more than the Cajun/Creole/American South Louisiana culture is mystical, magical, and has the damn goodest cuisine. I luv CCR and was shocked to learn they were from California.
Their entire catalog is super. Iconic band; seminal for ppl of my generation. Fortunate Son is my fave.
John Fogerty had one hell of a voice!!!!!!!!
Had ??
"Proud Mary" is great - Damn almost everything they did was great! Tina Turner did a great cover of proud mary as well. sixties was amazing time for music
I only learned of this song because they used it for the show Swamp People. Been obsessed since. Every time I hear it. I get so excited lol
One aspect of CCR that often goes unmentioned is their superb rhythm section. Doug Clifford on drums and Stu Cook on bass are as tight a rhythm section in rock and roll that you will find. Plus there's Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar. Doug Clifford in particular is one of my favourite drummers.
They are actually from southern California, but dang his vocals are straight up southern to the soul❤❤❤ this is my favorite❤you wont find a bad ccr song. Johns vocal capabities❤❤fabulous.
Northern Cal actually. El Cerrito.
@@MattJocks cool. Thanks for the correction.
@@MattJocksreally?
Ok the band is from California
But individually are any of the members from the south.
Curious
@@marktracy1721 They were all from El Cerrito and went to El Cerrito High. I remember when I was young, I assumed they were from the South as well.
El Cerrito is in the Bay Area.
Cerritos is in LA County
They're from just north of San Francisco. The singer is John Fogerty, and his brother Tom is playing rhythm guitar. It's 1969 or 1970. He's still alive - just yesterday, he posted a video of himself playing guitar and singing somewhere around Sausalito, CA.
Pretty cool when you've never heard a song but feel so moved you're singing along with it!
His voice is amazing..and his playing is just as good. All of car's music is unbelievable including their cover of "I heard it through the grapevine " is amazing!
They are from California but you would never know that by their sound!! One of my all time favorite bands..so underrated.
Great reaction Britt! CCR had a very distinctive music and vocal sound! There was no mistaking it as soon as you heard it.
I'm cajun and they are not from da bayou, but the admiration they have for south Louisiana and us is well appreciated✌️✌️
@ 0:54 IKR!!!! Same here, that line and this song let u know CCR is 🔥
Britt, thank you for digging this one up!! I served on US Navy ships for several years during the Vietnam era off the coast of Vietnam supporting our aircraft flying off the carriers. Several other electronics techs and I talked our bosses into letting us build a "Radio Station" on our ship. We actually got an affiliation with the Armed Services Radio & TV Network in the course of this endeavor. Of course, we had to get the ship's Captain's permission to "repurpose" the print shop so we asked him to spin the first record on "KFOX" when we got it all wired and running. He thought that would be cool.
Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary" was the first record we broadcast (closed circuit, within the ship) but Captain Bowlan didn't know "Creedence Clearwater Revival" from a door stop. His heart was in the right place though. I keyed the mike for him, and he announced "Here's Clarence Creedwater with Proud Mary." We struggled not to laugh. He was a great skipper and a really nice guy but I guess we all listened to different music!! We broadcast KFOX Radio for the next couple of years every WESTPAC Cruise we made. John Fogarty and "Clarence Creedwater" were one of the favorites along with most of the other popular music of the late sixties and early seventies.
That was a really cool story. Thanks for serving and sharing that, brother. 👍
One of their early songs that I like is "walk on the water". The way he sings it is extraordinary.
Your reviews are always so fresh and your outlook on music is just amazing, keep on your path, love it
Originally from San Francisco....wrote "proud mary" which you've heard of i'm sure...super popular in the late '60s😉😉
They formed in California in the 60's. Huge hit with Fortunate Son a anti Vietnam song during all the unrest. Many other songs are good. They were very popular.
Your face and expressions are just the best !
He would hang around rivers in Northern California. Another song Green River was inspired by that also.
This is from Bayou Country released in 1969 , I have the vinyl and sang myself time and time again, I sound just like that voice 👍👍
Love that you and others do these reaction vids to the past generations, to keep them alive! Tfs! 😍
Sure its calming Darlin, it takes you in your mind to a slow moving body of water, quietly paddling, or laying back reclining, in a piro. Flat bottom canoe basically, with low sides, with the hum and buzz of insects, quiet rustling of critters, the splash of a gar fish, or alligator sliding into the water. Soothing ASMR with an overdose of serotonin. That's CCR.
I love this song, please listen to their song " proud mary".
Tina's "Proud Mary" was a cover of their original. Like The Eagles, they came from California.
LOVE CCR !!!
This was my parents go to album anytime they threw a party in the late 60s to mid 70s. When this Album was on everyone was dancing. Great decade for music. 2 others you might know are Brandy and Smoke from a distant fire. Both thier voices are unique and awesome The performances on the Midnight Special are best.
Love it! I’m a South Louisiana man. He loves us . We love him!
You would NEVER believe after listening to CCR that they were not Southern from Louisiana. I call it "swamp rock". Fabulous voice & great overall musicianship.
Their sound is even more magical when you realize they’re from good ole California. Cuz it’s as real as magic that they’re from the Bayou. But, man, they sure capture the sound😊
They all grew up in El Cerrito, California, here in the SF Bay Area, a few blocks from my house. John Fogarty wrote so many great songs. This was released in 1969.
My favorite CCR song by far. They were around for maybe 2-3 years, but put out 7 albums in that short period. As a few others have said dig into their music.
The whole album Bayou Country is fire. One of my favorite albums by any artist, not just CCR. Graveyard Train and Penthouse Pauper are great deep cuts that get overlooked.
The only band I've bought all the singles and LP's from. Then later all CD's. Some of the best of my teenage years and I still love it. 🥰
Welcome aboard, Miss. First discovered this song about 55 years ago, reaction similar. Somewhere along the line on UA-cam Black people have become the arbiters of good music.
I was born on a Bayou Black Bayou.
Raised up listening to CCR .
Does me Soul good watching a young uh jamming to this tune.
CCR became popular when I was in high school (& we danced our lil' asses off to this song) & we all thought they were absolutely Bayou born & bred.
It was years later when I found out they were from California & I STILL can't wrap my head around it!
Btw, I love your voice & really enjoy your mini-singalongs or when you point out little things with your singing voice. So talented!
And now you need to react to "Green River". One of CCR's best & most beloved songs. And it will take you to the Bayou just like this song did.
Much love from Kentucky.
💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙🌿💙
Shocker he is from Berkeley, California and the band is to they went to school together
literally one of the greatest rock singers of all time.
John Fogerty and his brother Tom are from El Cerrito California in the Bay Area !
I love this music. CCR was astoundingly good! The sixties and seventies are my favorite music eras!
My all-time fav song by CCR. It is so much fun cruising down the highway in a 60's-70's muscle car to this song - and Green River as well!
In 1969 I had just graduated from college, and taken a new job working for the man. On a Saturday night, on my way home after a bit of partying, windows down, and listening to the local AM station, the DJ introduced a new song. 30 seconds in and I had the sound cranked as loud as I could get my poor little car radio to go. The song was Oh Susie Q, and it was that distinctive beat that you hear on so many of their songs and that you are hearing on this one. So many great rock artists are easily identifiable by their voice, but CCR always had that unique beat. By the end of the song I was singing aloud with them, and I predicted they would be the next big thing.
Just seen John Fogerty down in Nashville Tuesday Night for the 5th time, Awesome show!!, At 78 John still Rocks!!!!👍✌️
Bayou Country released in January 1969. I'm playing lead guitar in a Bay Area cover band at that time. I learn the songs off the album and we incorporate many into our set list. In March we go see them at Fillmore West with Jethro Tull 2nd on the bill. This was before they really broke nationally. One could walk up to the box office and get a ticket same day. In May, we go see them again. Both times they tear it up. What a lucky time to be a young man in the San Francisco Bay Area.
CCR guys from CA! Yep, sounds like he could be from the bayou! Just saw John Fogerty last nite here in ATL! He’s amazing. Hit after hit! Yes sung this tune…..👏🏻🎶
I'm an old man that grew up in the sixtys and seventys. It's a kick to see you enjoying the music that I grew up on, keep on keeping on. And if you'd accept a respectful compliment from an old man, you are gorgeous!
Believe it or not this band is from the San Francisco Bay area. I used to blast CCR in my very first car on a 4 track tape deck. I saw them perform in 1970 at the height of their popularity. It was a Great show!
I was back in the green room at Winteland San Francisco 1968. My friends were playing first before CCR. There were 2 green rooms, everyone was partying pretty hard. Great music and fun times.
I’m from far south Louisiana and love this we love CCR here
Singer John Fogerty is still singing today. I saw him live in 2013 and he was great. I know it's been ten more years but I believe he is still out touring today.
Thiis is the genius of CCR leader John Fogerty. In boyhood, he and his famly took frequent camping trips to rivers and lakes near their East Bay home. Somehow he came to channel the spirit of the deep south so perfeclty that, with his leaership, CCR became a music phenomena as different though authentic as the Beatles had done in 1964 with their vibe. Try others: Green River, Tombstone Shadow, The Old Man is Down the Road, Up Around the Bend -- too many others to mention here.
The Creedence boys are from El Cerrito, California. The east bay area. They formed when in junior high school and played around the bay area for about 10 years under the name Blue Velvets, then The Golliwogs. They changed their name to Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1967-8 when they got signed to Fantasy Records, a small jazz label. No, never been to the south until later in their career.
I've got about 10,000 record albums. The very first one I ever bought was CCRs Cosmos Factory when I was 7. I saw them doing Up and Around the Bend on American Bandstand and had to have it. Still got it. Listen to their version of I Heard it thru the Grapevine. FIRE!!
Calming... I bet most of us here were rocked to sleep in our cradles listening to this. Plus many more greats from that era. The nights my parents were cranking Pink Floyd are countless. I use to get paid to go to bed early. I wouldn't sleep obviously with music as loud and cool as that.
Don't forget to check out 'The Blue Ridge Rangers' and, of course, John's solo-career from Centerfield to Blue Moon Swamp to that live show in London and all those Rock & Roll Girls (you'll see) in between. Keep on Chooglin'
An all time great band. He wrote this song (John Foggerty) in his New York apartment, so the story goes.
This song is from 1969, and the group started (( as CCR)) about 1967 or '68. My favorite band in High School. They were from Northern California, I believe. John Fogerty on lead and Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar. Also with Stu Cook and Doug Clifford.
The band CCR was formed in El Cerrito, CA I grew up in the 70's grad in 1972
CCR is a band that was formed in El Cerrito, California. They had never been to the south or to a bayou at the time they did this song.
Shook-ith to your core-ith! Girl, you make me laugh. 70’s was/is my jam. I love how you love that time in music, hair and fashion. 🔥❤️
And he still sings that way John Fogerty and he still tours
You really can't go wrong with CCR music. It's all amazing, and Fogarty had some great ones when he went solo too.
This was part of the soundtrack of the Vietnam War. Run Through the Jungle, and Fortunate Son were theme songs. They blasted Run Through the Jungle from Huey helicopters.
From El Cerrito CA across from San Francisco and a few miles from Oakland and Berkeley.
Huge success from 1969-1971 with 14 top ten singles and 5 top 10 albums, however, this group from El Centro, California was wracked with disagreements over buisiness and artistic control. Much like Fleetwood Mac, hugely successful with Lyndsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joining in 1975, but the ensuing years laid waste with interpersonal relationship problems within this band as well. What dichotomy to be so massively successful with music yet the polar opposite with intersonal relationships. I do agree, however, not knowing any better I would have guessed this band to be from the bayou as well based on this song. Gotta tip my hat to John Fogerty's vocals on this one. Great reaction, TY.
Heard It in the Grapevine a la CCR is a thing of beauty and soul!!
CCR is from El Cerrito, California,.
Brilliant
Great reaction. Did you notice the long curly to Guitar chord? This was before Wireless and just like phone cords started to become available in the 70s which could stretch further but would contract to a much shorter distance than a regular cable, and he was using one on his guitar. I think it was white.
