I’m trying to decide between an LX raptor or JX raptor fishing big grouper, AJ’s and big red snapper from the boat. I figure around 150 to 200ft of water . I’m Thinking 100lb hollow core with a short mono top shot. I was leaning toward the LX but wanted to see what you think. Thanks

hi THL. I just got an MXL and have an 8' star rod for casting of piers, beach and even for the boat. They are pretty cheap in price and have served me well for many years. I'm now getting an LX raptor for bigger fish...maybe some shark fishing off the beach. My question is what rods would you recommend in the under 200 price point? Maybe I'd go up to $300 but would prefer under 200. I definitely want the ability to continue casting it off of piers but I don't want it longer than maybe 8 ft as any more and I can't fit it into my jeep. Thoughts? Also, what would be a decent under 200 boat rod for the same reel in 7 ft or under, I guess, since it's for the boat? Thanks in advance! BTW, love your vids. Thanks for the video. I’m planning on having an avet reel for a surf fishing setup, I’m torn between the LX and MXL (MC raptors). Going to be using a 13ft rod, to catch monsters from the Arabian sea shores. What do you suggest between the two reels? Casting distance is very important to me.
Mxl will be easier to cast but you will be limited on line ... but if your used to bigger reels then the lx Raptor mc will give you everything you want

i’m looking to buy one of these for surf fishing for 150+ pound sharks, we have a couple spinning poles where we catch 30-80 pound sharks but we’re looking for something bigger. is this a good reel to target those fish? and if it is what pole do you recommend is a good pair for it

I need your help choosing a conventional reel for shark fishing, ive got a 08 stella 20000, for medium sized sharks although its landed 7ft bull sharks no prob the fight would definetely be quicker on a conventional setup, i need something for the larger sharks but dont care for for 80 and 50wides due to weight, ive got a stupid heavy conventional jig rod rated for up to 250lb braid with a 500gram lure rating, but i dont know what to pair with it, theres the talica 50, accurate bv 1000, avet hxw raptor, what would you choose or suggest, im more or less looking for a monster jigging reel that can handle larger sharks for the surf, the lighter the reel the better. I would prefer to spend under $750 ln the reel, but if you think the better reel is worth more than that then bye bye budget.
The hxw raptor is a beast ... but when you try and mix boat fishing and land based fishing its harder... because land base fishing you have to fight the fish based on the line capacity.... but on a boat you have a lot more lee way cause you can always use the boat to follow when your getting spooled..however, the hxw raptor has enough drag that you can put 80#-100# hollow core braid and fight atleast 10ft sharks on no worries..
That's a good question. One is more pricey than the other. I guess which is best for the money, on the Lx. Custom would be pricey I know, but would the LX on the tackle industry be to heavy of reel. I would love a custom though.

You should upgrade to the g2 versions of either one or raptor cause the bearings will get eaten up by the surf weights... they will start to scream after a while and your will have to replace them

Well for $40 difference i would have to go with the raptor cause they hold the same amount of line, and the raptor has more drag.. and your using solid braid? With mono top shots?
@@TeamHardLife yes about 50yrds for example I have a avet mxl And have 200yrds of 65 power pro and the rest is 40lb mono but I some times get the mono spooled and once the braid is out the guides chips and it's mostly when I hook up on big game

Both will work but you will have to crank more with the jx cause of the thinner spool...

hi THL. I just got an MXL and have an 8' star rod for casting of piers, beach and even for the boat.
They are pretty cheap in price and have served me well for many years. I'm now getting an LX raptor for bigger fish...maybe some shark fishing off the beach. My question is what rods would you recommend in the under 200 price point? Maybe I'd go up to $300 but would prefer under 200. I definitely want the ability to continue casting it off of piers but I don't want it longer than maybe 8 ft as any more and I can't fit it into my jeep. Thoughts? Also, what would be a decent under 200 boat rod for the same reel in 7 ft or under, I guess, since it's for the boat? Thanks in advance! BTW, love your vids. I lost count of how many I've seen now and they have helped me out tremendously.

Going to be using a 13ft rod, to catch monsters from the Arabian sea shores.
What do you suggest between the two reels? Casting distance is very important to me.
Mxl will be easier to cast but you will be limited on line ... but if your used to bigger reels then the lx Raptor mc will give you everything you want

i’m looking to buy one of these for surf fishing for 150+ pound sharks, we have a couple spinning poles where we catch 30-80 pound sharks but we’re looking for something bigger. is this a good reel to target those fish? and if it is what pole do you recommend is a good pair for it
Mxl Raptor is a good sized reel for casting and catching. If you want s little bit of kayaking then the lx Raptor is better.

We have handled 7ft sharks with it and 50"plus bull reds, Jack's, kings, and monster black drums, and monster snapper as well
I need your help choosing a conventional reel for shark fishing, ive got a 08 stella 20000, for medium sized sharks although its landed 7ft bull sharks no prob the fight would definetely be quicker on a conventional setup, i need something for the larger sharks but dont care for for 80 and 50wides due to weight, ive got a stupid heavy conventional jig rod rated for up to 250lb braid with a 500gram lure rating, but i dont know what to pair with it, theres the talica 50, accurate bv 1000, avet hxw raptor, what would you choose or suggest, im more or less looking for a monster jigging reel that can handle larger sharks for the surf, the lighter the reel the better. I would prefer to spend under $750 ln the reel, but if you think the better reel is worth more than that then bye bye budget.
The hxw raptor is a beast ... but when you try and mix boat fishing and land based fishing its harder... because land base fishing you have to fight the fish based on the line capacity.... but on a boat you have a lot more lee way cause you can always use the boat to follow when your getting spooled..however, the hxw raptor has enough drag that you can put 80#-100# hollow core braid and fight atleast 10ft sharks on no worries..

That's a good question. One is more pricey than the other. I guess which is best for the money, on the Lx. Custom would be pricey I know, but would the LX on the tackle industry be to heavy of reel. I would love a custom though.

You should upgrade to the g2 versions of either one or raptor cause the bearings will get eaten up by the surf weights... they will start to scream after a while and your will have to replace them

Well for $40 difference i would have to go with the raptor cause they hold the same amount of line, and the raptor has more drag.. and your using solid braid? With mono top shots?
@@TeamHardLife yes about 50yrds for example I have a avet mxl And have 200yrds of 65 power pro and the rest is 40lb mono but I some times get the mono spooled and once the braid is out the guides chips and it's mostly when I hook up on big game
