Andrew in some mad helicopter, Martin Charteris busy on the phone sorting things out, the Queen Mother out managing the garden despite being nearly 82, Princess Margaret still in bed and of course the Queen doing her usual duties. It suits them all perfectly!
The queens 60th birthday was in 1986 and this would have been before that because Andrew was talking about a girl friend he had before Fergie whom he married in 1986.
This scene really does a good job of portraying the Queen's relationship with her second son in a series that usually doesn't delve into her younger children's lives. One can see what Elizabeth sees in Andrew: a young, dashing, somewhat cavalier naval officer, not unlike Prince Phillip when she first met him. She's both scandalized and amused by his antics. That's why he was her favourite child, and why she was quite blind to his shorcomings until the very end.
Who says she was blind? She most likely just didn't care because she knew they had enough money to keep anyone in that family out of court, no matter what they did. You think the royal family cares about laws? They're too rich to care about anyone but themselves.

They were definitely having fun with that scene, but Andrew is barely 21 himself at this time, the actress he's talking about (Koo Stark) is even older, and a 17yo is above the age of consent in England. So they're not having him "admit" anything in this scene.

I so identify with Andrew! He's got so much humor and spark in scenes that have normally been slower and more somber. He really makes the Queen smile. I think she's smiled more in this scene than I've seen in any other. She absolutely delights in being more prudish to his bawdy side, and he pushes the bawdy, I think, to get her to deflect, just like many sons before him to their mothers.
My uncle was in the Navy (70s/80s I think). He tells me on good authority that everyone in the navy held Charles in high regard. Andrew on the other hand was removed from the bridge for sitting in the captains chair. While I wouldn’t have assumed Charles was popular in the military, if my Uncle says he was, I believe him.
She slept in every day until lunch time. During lunch she downed another bottle and then spent her afternoon planning her evening and getting dressed and prepared. "Favoritism" is highly detrimental and at times morally wrong for any family life be it royal or commoner! It ruins all other relationships within the family! 💔💔 Favoritism leaves the favorite child eventually embroiled in his or her own selfishness and stubbornness and spoiled ways sometimes beyond repairs! Queen Elizabeth in the long run badly raised Andrew. Flying around Windsor Castle was just Andrew being his usual cold, obnoxious self! Charles knew better - he knew he couldn't get away with that and he knew it wasn't the right thing to do! To refer to the simple lunch with his mother as "national security" is a bit of a stretch and cocky. Andrew lacked manners and class since he was a child from what I read about him. We expect different things from different family members maybe it's because we each have our own personalities - even triplets are different. Charles and Andrew were treated differently because Charles was too sensitive for Queen Elizabeth - she liked her men tough and strong (well that would be Andrew). Elizabeth, truly favored Andrew. In the beginning of the video as Andrew and his friend were walking through the gates Andrew throws his pilot helmet at the guard without even looking at the guard!! The guard should have thrown it at the back of Andrew's head! Yes, to knock some sense into him. Andrew doesn't look like Prince Philip nor queen Elizabeth. I'm trying to think of who he closely resembles - I'm not sure what to make of the rumors of Lord Porchester and the queen. Probably time will tell as usual - there are no secrets in the royal family ( so it seems ). When Andrew brings up Koo Stark it does make me want to go back in time to shake him and explain how atrocious his situation with a 17 year old teenager would be!! Most intelligent and caring adults would not use words such as predators and legal and seduce and art work when carelessly describing a 17 year old!! I'm glad the queen stopped the conversation but in real life I think she would have stopped Andrew - if she knew - which I strongly doubt. The queen's "favorite child" got away with far too much. Sad. Very sad. FAVORITISM!
Andrew was the Queen’s favorite. Anne was Prince Philip’s favorite. Edward was the favorite of both the Queen and Prince Philip. Charles was simply left out in the family……

The first time we finally SEE Andrew. I began to think they were going to leave him OFF the show entirely like Princess Margaret's kids. His daughters were left off and his ex-wife Sarah was pretty much never shown. Later in this episode Elizabeth tells Philip that she worries about Andrew....when Philip reminds her that he is indeed her favorite.....serious foreshadowing (intentionally by the writer's/producers)
All her other children were miserable at their lunches. Andrew was the only one to meet her with a great big grin. She probably felt like he was the only one who liked her at all. He knew how to wrap his "mummy" round his little finger, evidently- shame that the same can be said in real life too, with some nasty consequences...
Showing up unannounced in a search and rescue helicopter, not acknowledging the salute from the ADC, chucking his helmet at the help, and just generally being a petulant little prick! Any wonder no one liked him prior to his other f up!
Yeah, 17-year olds and old predators... You have to remember that the writers of "The Crown" of course already knew about Andrew's "pleasure trips" to the Virgin Islands, the breakdown of Charles and Andrew's marriages and much more. That's why they were able to include so many spicy allusions to later scandals in "The Crown."
Andrew is one of the most tragic characters imo. The series considered him as the queen's favorite because he was the only one who wasn't complaining about his life. Yet at the end of the episode she thinks it's a bad thing, that he needs to change, and low and behold he went on to be another disaster.
Andrew salts his lunch before he tastes it. Bit of character writing IMO -- interviewees for jobs who go to lunch are warned not to salt their food before tasting it, as that indicates a tendency to jump in to situations making unwarranted assumptions before knowing all the facts. Don't know if that's true or not but it's amusing to see that bit here.
Richard III wasn't the Duke of York, he was the Duke of Gloucester. Hence the whole plot point about someone with 'G' in the name and poor old George, Duke of Clarence getting drowned in a vat of wine.
Charles and the monarchy were both really lucky that Elizabeth stuck so adamantly to the established line of succession. A less principled mother would have been tempted to replace Charles as crown prince with Andrew - and in light of later scandals, that might have been the end of the monarchy after Elizabeth's death.

@@anonUK Maggie Smith was stunning when younger, and Olivia Coleman is very attractive. Both are highly intelligent women and gifted actresses.
What a noble, courageous and straightforward young man. I'm certain he will be both a leader and credit to his nation.
Ah, the Queen's favourite predator.. oops I mean, son. This scene is brilliant. They've actually got Andrew to admit to his predatory interest in underage girls.
They were definitely having fun with that scene, but Andrew is barely 21 himself at this time, the actress he's talking about (Koo Stark) is even older, and a 17yo is above the age of consent in England. So they're not having him "admit" anything in this scene.
@@haventesla8648Predator Andrew deserves life in jail.
@@haventesla8648 But Koo Stark is 4 years older than Andrew.
In this case, the actress Koo Stark was actually 4 years older than him.
@@haventesla8648One issue there: The age of consent in England has age categories almost, 16-17 is consenting if it's with other consenting 16-17 year olds, but if anyone in the relationship is 18 and above with a 16-17 it's not considered as consensual
Nice keep it up with the crown videos. My favorite show on Netflix
She loved Andrew regardless.
lol most mother generally do & its usually most mothers where it's hardest to make them see their sons as evil or criminals or doing something bad. Look at scott peterson & his family. Parents always want to think their kids will do well & be good but even all the best training education & parenting in the world can't always bring good humans as youth let alone adults. I could name many famous rich & even powerful families who have at least one black sheep. We all know hunter bidens issues or the bush daughters the oldest obama daughter has ruffled more then a few feathers as first daughter let alone after leaving the white house.
The way she smiles and embraces him immediately tells you Andrew is her favorite
Did you believe The Crown was a documentary? It was largely fiction based on a few incidents which happened. Largely fiction.
The way they giggled about Andrew unaliving Charles' future sons...🙀😆😆
My uncle was in the Navy (70s/80s I think). He tells me on good authority that everyone in the navy held Charles in high regard.
Andrew on the other hand was removed from the bridge for sitting in the captains chair.
While I wouldn’t have assumed Charles was popular in the military, if my Uncle says he was, I believe him.
Boy, Andrew's story aged like cheese in the African grasslands.
I bet he absolutely broke her heart.
An underrated show that will be missed.
Prince Andrew is absolutely her majesty's favorite child.
Not anymore
@@mattybrunolucaszeneresalas9072 What do you mean? Because of Queen is dead?
"Don't be such a prude mummy"
I bet he said that after the BBC interview.
I would be Margaret! Waking up all grumpy from a nap 😂
She slept in every day until lunch time. During lunch she downed another bottle and then spent her afternoon planning her evening and getting dressed and prepared. She came home drunk, slept off the hangover until lunch time and the whole cycle began again. For some reason she was paid as a working royal.
A real Narc. Staff hated him.
@@theelitemanticore151Charles was the Queen mother favorite the relationship between those two was like no other the queen mother had with her children nor grandchildren
well said
I mostly agree but wasn't Koo Stark 4 year "older" than Andrew?
Did Andrew fly the helicopter to Windsor castle and have this conversation in real life?
They would NEVER have sprinkled salt on their food nor eaten salmon with a KNIFE
"if you so much as break wind, its of national security"
It's not like it's DPRUK, ain't it?
I still wonder how he managed to do that with his superior officers... like did he just say "I am off for lunch with mother- who is also YOUR boss - and I will take the heli"
This scène reaks of insight
"Seventeen? I'm not sure I want to know more."
"Don't be such a prude, Mummy."
Foreshadow much, Netflix?
All her other children were miserable at their lunches. Andrew was the only one to meet her with a great big grin. She probably felt like he was the only one who liked her at all. He knew how to wrap his "mummy" round his little finger, evidently- shame that the same can be said in real life too, with some nasty consequences...
2:11 “really your not familiar with’the awakening of Emily’”
“No, should I be?”
Me having googled it ‘No Ma’ma you definitely shouldn’t be!’
Not the kind of thing Her Majesty would have liked!
Showing up unannounced in a search and rescue helicopter, not acknowledging the salute from the ADC, chucking his helmet at the help, and just generally being a petulant little prick! Any wonder no one liked him prior to his other f up!
Even in this snippet Andrew sounds icky…
Richard III was Duke of Gloucester, not York. The younger of the Princes in the Tower he murdered was Duke of York.
Well.....did he? Inconclusive
That actor could pass as Tony Blair so well.
Welp, there's some foreshadowing.
Richard III was the Duke of Gloucester, not York.
Surprising error, frankly.
They really wanted to solidify that Andy was a nonce
Nonce-adjacent, I believe. He's not Savile or Glitter...
Imagine how disappointed and difficult it must've been for her to strip Andrew of all his titles and HRH responsibilities.
"Hi Mumy dropping by to have lunch with you, as you asked😂
There is no way she missed all his creepy red flags the whole time
Yeah she just didn’t care! 🤦♂️🙄
"mother is only one who gave one's birth"
You see what you want to see.
She coddled Andrew, and he turned into a monster.
If anyone was in the palace that lived through the Blitz, Andrew’s arrival must have given them traumatic flashbacks to WW2! 🤦♂️🙄
That helicopter was recently restored to flying condition prior to filming this scene.
Andrew shows up to his mom's in a helicopter.
Boss move.
When Art imitates LIFE
Just hoping he didn't have plans to "vanish" his nephews.
Ahh yes, before when he could sweat...
william and harry did the exact same thing at balmoral
What
Andrew is one of the most tragic characters imo. The series considered him as the queen's favorite because he was the only one who wasn't complaining about his life. Yet at the end of the episode she thinks it's a bad thing, that he needs to change, and low and behold he went on to be another disaster.
When did Edward complain - and yet he's the only one who is still enjoying a first marriage.
17? She was practically middle-aged as far as Andrew was concerned.
This portrays The spoiled, careless, extravagant, perverted Andrew, pretty well.
What they were eating? can someone tell me please !
"Mummy, I like teenage girls. Don't be such a prude! Anyway, I'm off to my favorite island in the Caribbean, cheerio!"
Richard III wasn't the Duke of York, he was the Duke of Gloucester. Hence the whole plot point about someone with 'G' in the name and poor old George, Duke of Clarence getting drowned in a vat of wine.
He required a large helo--he had a lot of teddy bears to carry where he went.
He is so much younger than his older siblings of course he is her baby
Charles and the monarchy were both really lucky that Elizabeth stuck so adamantly to the established line of succession. A less principled mother would have been tempted to replace Charles as crown prince with Andrew - and in light of later scandals, that might have been the end of the monarchy after Elizabeth's death.
The queen doesn't have the power to alter the Succession.
Little did she know, her son would grow up to become a creep
