One of the most memorable (or most hated by some radio stations that banned it!), craziest (pun), and fastest-selling songs in the Summer of 1966! Jerry Samuels made a masterpiece of mentally illness parody--the whole instigator was from a man's dog that ran away, that is how ridiculously funny the whole song was! Not from a wife leaving a man, which some had thought in casual listening to it! The song hit #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Aug. 13, 1966. Jerry was then only 28 when recording it, now 81, born on May 3, 1938 in New York City.
So I finally learned "Mangy mutt" was about a dog...WHY are there zero thumb-ups for your comment?!! After a whole year even! It was highly informational, for all intents and purposes (I can't stand it when people say "For all intensive purposes." Along the lines of saying "I have no IDEAL.")
@@lilRadRidinHood Thank you so much for your terrific comment! Yeah, "they'll put you in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt" should have been a clear and obvious giveaway that the mental illness was about his dog that ran away! The ASPCA isn't trying to protect humans, only animals! American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
@@freeguy77 Well, like so much "music" the song CAN be subject to personal interpretation. As a wayward human member of a relationship gone bad they can become a victim of insults and slang terms, many of which (male or female) have been addressed as "dogs". And females can brashly be given the title used to describe a female dog...5 letters starting with "B", but I'll let the reader here form their own impression. (Have at it, all you free-thinkers!)
@@lilRadRidinHood But you IGNORED when I referred to Jerry Samuels mentioning the ASPCA, as I pointed out earlier! That proves it was not about any humans, but had to be about an animal! Nobody calls a human a "mangy mutt!" True, or do you dispute that? You switched your view now to the other side, when you said to me, "So I finally learned 'mangy mutt' was about a dog." What did you think a 'mangy mutt' was, a female human??? Makes no sense!
I had an album in, I believe it was the 70's, that was full of songs like this (Monster Mash & Beep Beep are the only other two I can think of off the top of my head). Your Beep Beep video is what brought me here. Thank you for both! The animation was a perfect fit for both songs!
Munkustrap: I believe that the album that you're thinking of is from K-Tel records called Goofy Greats. I had it on 8-track tape. It also contained Please Mr. Custer, purple people eater and several others.
I have enjoyed this song so much it has seems to be a constant theme song that plays in my head every time I just realize I am dealing with is crazy. The person you did your best for used and abused you pushed you over an edged of sanity and instead of doing anything to harm them or blame them, you just get depressed and exhausted then in the end you have to realize It is not them you need to be pleasing and your self is never satisfied. Finding the right direction is important Jesus has always been kind to me I hope you find Him to be kind as well. I really enjoyed seeing it in animation. Thank you so much for for sharing your talents with the rest of us.
My favorite thing about this song is, there's another set of lyrics that fit too perfectly: I heard there was a secret chord That David played, it pleased the Lord But you don't really care for music, do ... you? It goes like this, the fourth, the fifth The minor fall, the major lift The baffled king composing Hallelu ... jah!
EXCELLENT VIDEO TO MY FAVOURITE SONG form July,1966, justjeff53! (Even Davy Jones "Gave it a plug" on The Monkees' "Gonna Buy Me A Dog" right at the fade!) The "B" side is what really FLIPPED people out! I still have my copy of the Warner Bros. album(WS=1661) with my second favourite song "The Place Where the Nuts Hunt the Squirrels"(That would make a GREAT VIDEO! - "Brent the Gent"(The OLD MUSICOLOGIST)
You might cook your dog meals if your so inclined, but a dog doesn't typically have a kitchen to clean. So this guy was definitely calling his X a mangy mutt. Enter Josephine for part 2, her response.
In case anyone isn't aware, there's another chapter to this story: an answer song, recorded by "Josephine XV" (Napoleon's wife) on the same LP album (not the 45). It ignores the surprise in the original song (that it's really about a dog, not a woman), so it loses points for that, but for what it's worth (not much!) here it is: ua-cam.com/video/5m138-Fn5Tw/v-deo.html
So the josep just tell truth that this character see So instead of green it withe coat so you know what person who wear it(not the main character) And she say he burn the food and wrecked the house but in this he say he clean it

In Cincinnati when 96.5 Zrock came on the air they played this song on repeat backwards and forwards for like a week straight 🤣
the flip side on the 45 was the backward version.

Why can’t I stay on the normal side on UA-cam?
Because it's boring! Stay over here, it's way more fun. :)
I had this song as a 45 rpm on the flip side it was played in reverse very weird sounding
gunrunner 46 - I had it too. My Mother got rid of all my 45’s 😢 Had ‘Beep Beep’ too 🙄
I used the flip side in a small haunted attraction and kept changing the speed. Creepy!
My brother had it but took it back because B side sounded funny. 😜
I have that same 45 rpm
Dying laughing....yes I laughed
You laffed & laffed, I HEARD you laff!!😜😃😁😆😂🤣
Nice graphics.
