the older one has the best shoulder straps. I went to many a place with one in my front and one on my back.... the new one has shoulder straps that are absolutely terrible... The worst part of basic/osut was using the new bag and caffeine withdrawls
The old gen seabag is MUCH better for carrying a huge volume of gear without the bag bursting. The new gen duffel has zippers and these are always a weak point in any bag.
the zippers are the weak point but its uncommon for them to break. Top load duffels are nice because its near impossible to break anything on that bag.

Those seabags are a huge asset when youre moving from duty station to duty station. Good thing the Navy issues the old school one at bootcamp still.

Got both like the improved better. The zipper is beefy I can’t really see it breaking. Easier access
