I rang a number I found on a white label, it was Brockies undiluted number 😄 I only rang the number to get a new copy of my record as it was jumping a few sec in . I was so gassed I was talking to Brockie. I had a 20 min chat with him telling him how good I mix because I studied my style , bigged him up to the heavens 🙌 🙏 and then my son was due to b born the next few days. Brockie took my name, my girls name , my Sons name and began his show the following with Bigging up the birth of my son. It was so BIG. my son still has that tape till thos very day. 🤗Big up Dj Brockie each n every time. 🙌🙌🙌🙏🙏🙏

Sometime in 98, NickyBM was supposed to headline Club Tropicana nightclub in Reading . , midnight came and the mc told the club he ain't coming , but dont worry he got someone to cover, in walks Brockie and Det. Greatest set I've ever seen, The vibes they created that night still live with me now. Big up yourselves!

The stuff said about the racism and lack of opportunities resonates and it cuts. I feel Brockie's pain. Proper emotional story about his connection to his mother. Beautiful!! What a revelation about Kool FM being a Reggae and Rare Groove station before playing hardcore. Brockie is so loyal and principled. Another great interview!! Bless up DJ Ron. Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2023.

@@LondonSomething1994 Definitely, there's plenty to learn from these discussions and exchanges of personal experiences which really brings us all to a human level where we are all one. We certainly keep learning from others experiences, whether they are similar to our own or not we can empathise and consider the hardship and traumas endured by others. This is also part of our collective social history. Brockie has a tremendous social and political perspective which bolsters my admiration for his DJing and what he represents. The very heart and soul of the pirate radio movement was rebellious, against the system, for the people by the people and free of the shackles of the mainstream corporations. Brockie, yourself and that movement empowered the youth. We give thanks!!

You have no idea how just listening to KOOL WITH THE K, walking through East London back in the 90s going to college Commercial Rd with my Sunday set on my head phones, MC Det and DJ Brockie, really kept me going in the face of hardship. I got my degree and life is good but those days of just having my TDK, and just popping to college with zero money, but the fact I had that Sunday night session on my headphones. I was good for the week. Thank you Godfathers. Brockie, DET, Five-0, Remedey, Moose, DJ Ron, Navigator, SL. The entire Fam. Brockie your cut from that old cloth, respect for your mother, morals man. Aww, 1)Brockie is right not everyone in the era he grew up in wanted to work in a factory, 2)It's always nice when a person has beautiful and supportive parents, Brockies Mother is from Jamaica so she knew how hard it was, may his Mother RIP, 3) I have had conversations with DJ Brockie in real life and on his Facebook page Brockie is a beautiful soul, 4) It would be very easy for a person to leave a pirate radio station and move into corporate radio but some people prefer to stay loyal while building their own islands, DJ Brockie is a Capricorn they are quite self sufficient, 5)Being humble is a beautiful thing because "Real people move in silence and a person becomes a adult when they don't need anyone beneath them, This was a beautiful podcast about a scene which was created from scratch much better for people to build their own islands

Another solid podcast Ron. Brockie is definitely a foundation of the scene. How can you not like someone like Brockie, with zero ego. I used to live Marlow, Buckinghamshire at the time of the Kool FM coming out. We used to drive to a very high hill near High Wycombe and we could just about catch Kool FM so we used to hear Brockie and Det of course. I loved how Brockie talks about being interested in meeting more people outside of his community, which raves gave him the opportunity. Being a white bloke partly brought up at the time of raves on one of the least diverse towns you could imagine I also wanted to see who else was out there. I had two black friends at primary school (almost certainly the only two black families in Marlow), and they introduced me to their music which definitely had a huge impact on me. Ecstasy definitely helped tear down the some of the racial barriers left over from the 80s. Doves fixed a lot. Along with the music too. Weren't we all lucky to be part of it.

From those early nighties weekends with our TDK's recording in the early hours, calling the station for a shout outs. Going to our first jungle raves and seeing our hero's on stage. We were lucky enough to witness and support the growth of this movement. You can't buy memories like that.

This whole series is superb. Fascinating. I love the fact that DJ Ron is essentially mixing 1970's/80's/90's social history with jungle/dnb history - it's absolutely fascinating and the best music podcast about. I was massively into jungle/dnb in the 90's/early-mid 00's but in the 90's the whole thing - from the dj and producer perspective - was a mystery in the sense that, aside from the occasional interview, you didn't really know anything about the people making the records or dj'ing. Sometimes you wouldn't even know what a DJ looked like! So different to this age of viral narcissism. Loving this whole series.

I remember passing a Brockie tape around school when we were about 15. I can't put my finger on why, but he had some kind of elusive quality about him (maybe his name? I've no idea really). Perhaps something different from the usual headlining big rave DJ names at the time? I can still picture where I was when I was first handed a tape of his and what the tape looked like, with the hand drawn graf tag style name. The sound quality was terrible but the tunes were simply amazing and the big city atmosphere perfectly filtered through the headphones. To us country boys, it sounded illicit and like it was coming from another planet. Once this stuff gets in your blood it never leaves you. Brilliant podcast as always, Ron.

This was an amazing interview, brockie has been a huge inspiration to myself when it comes to being headstrong and just doing your own thing!!!
One of the most resonating statements "I only place my mum on a pedestal" just shows integrity as well as jungle course through his veins.
I'm 38 and pulled a sick for the next two days to catch him and brockie at xoyo Friday 😆

I said it before but this podcast is special... brings back memories I thought I had lost and gives a real view of what London was like back in the day. Centerforce and Sunrise FM, I spent many years listening to these at 13/14 years old.. went to my first proper rave at 15 in a church building in Elle & Castle and dropped half a dove 😊 then spent many weekends at Rokit Pirate Club and Orange, Dungeons (and Es ofcourse).. stopped dropping early tho as I was more of a weed/hash smoker but still used to last the whole night loving the tunes with my mates rushing.

Brockie is one of a kind. A true gentleman, consummate professional, exceptional DJ and selector but above all, a great human being. His humbleness is his strength; if you can be as well-known and respected as him, yet still be approachable and genuine, then you've done a great job. Always my DJ. Big up Brockie every time.
