Hi all, I don't want to be rude, I know this took effort to put together, however there was plenty of misinformation in this video. 1. Planet of the Apes was used as a basis for understanding how Manikins were imprisoned, they did not influence the design at all. 2. Gegege no Kitaro is pronounced "geh" not "gee" 3. It's actually Kazuma Kaneko not Kaneko Kazuma, it's unusual because in your sources you correctly cite him as Kazuma Kaneko 4. The press turn system does not appear in Persona, however the system used in P3-5 is similar and arguably derivative. 5. There isn't any source cited for the claim the demifiend was planned to have a comp, I believe this was misconstruing the discussion about Cronenberg's Videodrome. 6. The cerberus "demo" was a lan test demo not a nocturne demo. 7. Lisa was not used in any demo and was instead used to test modeling and to stand in for the character Chiaki in cutscenes. 8. Kaneko Works doesn't accredit the design to be inspired by that movie at all, and the design itself is not similar at all, the criticism regarding the nose doesn't bolster the statement because other tengu in the game also don't have the traditional nose. 9. Magatama are not beads in Nocturne, they are parasite-like worm demons 10. Maken Shao is actually an enhanced port of Maken X and not a separate game. 11. The intent to stray from the popular high fantasy concept was something considered by Atlus before Kaneko joined them, not exclusive to Nocturne and has been stated by many other major figures at Atlus, it's even why Re Fantasy is an attempt to go towards fantasy concepts since contemporary settings are the new norm. @@TheKillerStove Ah a fellow cultured P2 fan. Nice to meet a fellow fan of the older or obscured games. Honestly I would love to see a remake of 1 and 2 the duology. Though of course only bring in the press turn system from the later SMT and Persona entries, I would agree with you 100%. The social systems would be redundant since the world and its characters are already developed nicely imo. Honestly I never bothered to maxed out the social links at all in 3+4 I just dont care. Honestly at this point I would even settle for something as minimal as an anime adaption or even showing off Naoya as Persona's 2nd and final rep.
It's still weird to me how an obscure trilogy of novels would give rise to one of Japan's biggest RPG franchises, especially since I doubt the author of the original novels has any involvement with the series.
It makes me so happy to see how far this has all come. But now the fact that everyone knows what DYKG is all about is so great in it's own way too cause there's so much knowledge for us all to share now that we wouldn't have otherwise.
The tidbit about the idea of giant demons using Tokyo as a stomping grounds is particularly cool after having played through a fair bit of V. My homies Surt and Lucifer never looked so imposing and I love it.
I really hope someday Atlus would consider remaking or rebooting the first 2 SMT games or maybe the 2 Megami Tensei games with modern graphics and gameplay
@@samuelbrannon5396 Maybe in terms of story and characters. But the gameplay is really poor. It would be ideal dream if Atlus did total remakes of such old games, but i will hope.
Atlus: "We wanted this game to be more than just the third game in the series." SMT5: "Guess I'm just the fifth game in the series then..." SMT4: "First time huh?"
6:10 Persona 5 doesn't use the press turn system. That system is characterized for the icons representing the players available actions. In persona, you only get one more action (hence the name "one more" system)
the one more system is based off of the press turn system in the same way that devil survivors extra turns or the raidou games weakness systems are both inspired by it. megami tensei after nocturne placed much heavier emphasis on the weakness abusing done by the press turn system
even the people at Atlus realize how P3-5 overshadows the mainline, but still want players to experience it. I hope other titles get remasters like Digital Devil Saga and Devil Summoner.
Did you know? Atlus is charging for dlc for a ps2 game that barely improves the original release Really hate these scummy practices, I'll definitely wait for a good sale before picking this up

I've saving it for the second playthrough. I think physical is better when you don't have the grasp of things yet, but it does seem fun to play around it.
@@lunamaster123 Physical is still better overall though, Magic rapidly decays over time at a certain point for everyone including the DLC and the only good magic casters are demons in the 30-60 range. Having a simple single set of phys attacks to focus on which can pierce that can get you press turns at random are better than hauling around a bunch of magic that can't even pierce and can only get press turns when the weakness related to that magic is specifically present. I don't hate magic builds although magic will definitely be better than phys even if magic was buffed up way too much in IV tbh
Smt 3 is one of those games i absolutely dreaded to continue playing but years after finishing it, wishing to go for another playthrough, such a good game.
Thanks for the sponsor, Atlus. Still not paying full-price for a nearly two-decades-old game, though. Especially when I have to pay for DLC to get the full experience. I think at that point I'd rather just keep emulating the PS2 version. Still looks good to this day, just needed a resolution bump.
I would too, however I think the main reason for the low sales is a combination of the compressed soundtrack, 30FPS cap and the price. For many people $50 USD for the base game that is a port (and some consider it a lazy one, however I will not call it so myself as I have not played it myself) and $25 for the DLC to that port of a PS2 game from 2003 is a fairly high ask to many, especially considering the Persona 4 Golden port, that runs at 60 FPS, when the vita version didn't, is only $20 for the base and $25 for the silly deluxe edition. I think it's just quite a few questionable factors about this release on steam, mostly the pricing (They want $70 for the combo pack) that has the sales low. I expect to see quite a spike in sales when the price is lower because of a sale or some sort, as this is one of the most expensive "HD Remasters" done so far.
@@revenile or you could just put it to the simple fact that PC's can just emulate the PS2 version for free with features like cheats, speedup and save states... also I take that you haven't seen many remasters at all if this is 1 of the most expensive 1s you have seen when even Nintendo sells remasters for 60 dollars...
@@revenile I still call bullshit that people say the price is a problem but going full FOMO on Mario wasn't an issue for them when Sunshine runs WORSE on that than the GameCube.
Why do people think SMT3 is the best? Because it's still one of the unique hardcore RPG'S out there. Still one one of the best OST. Demon design is top notch. True Demon Ending is best ending. (Oni is best demon)

Kazuyuki Yamai did not direct Nocturne, Hashino did. Yamai only directed Maniax version.
It's still weird to me how an obscure trilogy of novels would give rise to one of Japan's biggest RPG franchises, especially since I doubt the author of the original novels has any involvement with the series.
It makes me so happy to see how far this has all come. I can still remember being in high school over a decade ago feeling so elusive knowing all my gaming facts I'd get off the daily updated website before it was something everyone knew about. But now the fact that everyone knows what DYKG is all about is so great in it's own way too cause there's so much knowledge for us all to share now that we wouldn't have otherwise.
Now if they could just be bothered to localize the first two
They are available on psp i think
@@gigagrave not officially, just fan translated, the first one was on iPhone and iPad, not sure why they took it off though
The 1st one is localized ,only for the IOS tho
@@selectioncrescimento like I said, they took it down for whatever reason
@@sparkydoodle696 lol the other comments hadn't shown up when i said that , but thats weird
Soo, can we have Digital Devil Saga 1+2 and Devil Summoner 1+2 next as a HD Remaster? Pretty please?
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne would never take advantage of our innate gullibility
My favorite parts of this video is when they are still talking about Shin Megami Tensei V.
"Ah yes clearly the Demifiend was influenced by the Tron serie-- uhh, I guess it was Videodrome instead."
Really makes you realize how influential Greek mythology was in ancient Europe.
Excitedly waiting for my preordered copy to arrive this week. Always appreciate SMT and Nocturne love.
My favorite demon is Mothman. He’s such a goofball.
The tidbit about the idea of giant demons using Tokyo as a stomping grounds is particularly cool after having played through a fair bit of V. My homies Surt and Lucifer never looked so imposing and I love it.
Why didn't you guys ask about the audio compression or the steep price tag for a remaster?
I really hope someday Atlus would consider remaking or rebooting the first 2 SMT games or maybe the 2 Megami Tensei games with modern graphics and gameplay
This has to be one of my favorite videos
damn y’all got an atlus sponsorship? well done
Picked this up on day one. Game is fantastic and now I'm just wishing they'd do the same with Persona 3!
I've been wanting persona 3 to come out remastered for years I think that is still the best persona game
YEEEESSSSS
@@samuelbrannon5396 Maybe in terms of story and characters. But the gameplay is really poor. Dungeons are repetitive, batlles are unnecessarily difficult due to poor balancing and the inability to control party members, and the social links are impossible to complete in one playthrough without a guide. Not to mention that most of your party does not even get one.
They barely remastered it, I'd prefer a full on remake for P3, although ig an hd port to modern consoles would be nice.
@@TheKewlPerson Persona remake would be the best thing. 3 is already the best one in my opinion, so if they just improve it and even use the P5 engine it could be the best thing ever.
I just started playing the game last week. Absolutely love it. Just beat Matador and Dante a few moments ago.
This is the best game series ever. Pokemon fans would love it.
Still wanting for that SMT 1 and 2 remake.
SO YOURE SAYING THAT 5 ISNT DED AND WE WERENT BAMBOOZLED.
Fantastic video and choice of narrator!
On the horizon uh? Thanks Yamai

The DYK SMT video we deserved
I hope Atlus one day will remaster SMT1 and 2. These games have not best gameplay due to time then they were realised, but their story is great, the setting of Christian Apocalypse with religious fanatics in cyber-churches what creates artifical Messiahas and virtual Heaven and other stuff like this so fantastic, it feels like Bible 2. It would be ideal dream if Atlus did total remakes of such old games, but i will hope.
This game is awesome glad they’re remaking it for a new gen to play through...I unfortunately no longer have the time to invest in it
Atlus: "We wanted this game to be more than just the third game in the series."
SMT5: "Guess I'm just the fifth game in the series then..."
SMT4: "First time huh?"
Thanks!!! more SMT content please!!!
Thanks Bignutz, very cool
Finally, after many years you make a did you know SMT part 2 💕
“It became more common to hear younger fans of persona 3-5 saying how their interested in playing games like nocturne”
Hi, hello! Thats me!
Same
Nocturne is one of the best SMT games; highly recommend it.
That was me until I saw the price, so I got SMT IV and Soul hackers on Eshop
yeah same, i couldnt buy the hd remaster of smt 3 so i just grabbed the ps2 version, but one day i will buy the remaster
Really cool to hear the devs actually said some stuff for the video.
Also yoooo english demifiend made this video?? Thats coool
Oh don't worry Atlus, I bought the HD remaster twice on preorder for steam and PS4 with DLC. You had my money the moment I heard Nocturne.
Did you know? Atlus is charging for dlc for a ps2 game that barely improves the original release
Really hate these scummy practices, I'll definitely wait for a good sale before picking this up
Do you feel better now ?
It's probably so they can relieve the licence fee for using Dante lmao
>Barely
>Manual skill selection when fusion
That alone is miles better.
So glad that more people get to experience this game. Tho SMT3 planted the seeds for Atlus to get more known and spawn the more known Persona 3 to 5 games. I Just wish Atlus also ported Persona 3,4,5 to switch since I missed out on those games.
Really hyped for SMT5.
This is one of the best ways to promote a game. Congratz.
While I love smt3 to death and it is my favorite smt game I'd love to see a port of smt4 one day. Smt4 is another fantastic game that has so much content that it would be amazing to see in hd

Who the hell builds a Magic-based Demifiend?
Me
I've saving it for the second playthrough. I think physical is better when you don't have the grasp of things yet, but it does seem fun to play around it.
Magic might be a fun idea if you're not on a TDE run.
Magic build fun build
@@lunamaster123 Physical is still better overall though, Magic rapidly decays over time at a certain point for everyone including the DLC and the only good magic casters are demons in the 30-60 range. Having a simple single set of phys attacks to focus on which can pierce that can get you press turns at random are better than hauling around a bunch of magic that can't even pierce and can only get press turns when the weakness related to that magic is specifically present.
I don't hate magic builds although magic will definitely be better than phys even if magic was buffed up way too much in IV tbh
Take a shot everytime he says "nocturne". 🥴🍺
Been loving finally playing through Nocturne again. Labyrinth of Amala is just as painful as I remember.
That is extremely not how you pronounce _GeGeGe no Kitaro_
I hope Atlus will one day learn of regional pricing the same way they learned they could rerelease older games to get more money.
*That plot twist at the end of the video thou*
Now just need Raidou Kuzunoha remasters or sequel
I've been waiting for this
Thank you for this information Demi Fiend, very cool
Demi-Fiend crouching in a closet
Smt 3 is one of those games i absolutely dreaded to continue playing but years after finishing it, wishing to go for another playthrough, such a good game.
a surprise to be sure, but a welcome one
Persona is SMT without the Brain
tfw they didn't even ask me D:
Regardless; great vid! Love me some Nocturne
Worthwhile if not best sponsor ^_^ well done guys nvm all the info on a shin megami game :)
One of the best JRPG'S ever made
Are you telling me my boi Seliph is THE Demi-fiend...?
I can leave this world in peace now
So the battle of Belhalla was necesary for the vortex world to exist. Neat
It's a shame that the game is having low sales on steam. I really wanted all the shin megami tensei franchise on pc.
Persona 4 Golden costs 20, this costs 50. The price point is off.
40 with the DLC might have been acceptable.
Man, this takes me back. Shin Megami Tensei was my introduction to the series as a whole, unfortunately I played it by a friend and never beat it - though I shat bricks when I saw Dante the first time. Now I get to play it on PC. I am so happy!
HAHAHAAHA PC! that crappy ass no good port
@@Candle_Calmness PC apparently runs better than the console versions though so idk man I think that would make it the best version to play on. Barring the compressed OST but whatever. At this point ALL VERSIONS of the game have a compressed OST so there's not really a hard choice to make unless you're stuck only being able to choose the console versions.
@@ils4844 lies . PC version doesn't even have Dante XD
