in India there r two types of temple governing body 1 under govt 2 under trusts in first case it directly goes to govt no problem in 2nd case the temples under trusts , they provide free food in the temple vicinity throughout the day ,3 course meal is provided , and they have their school where they provide education to poor fr free or for minimal money and good quality of education is provided , so no money is being wasted here , even if they r under a trusty group they have to submit their income and expenditure to the govt iskon in India provides mid day meal to 1.5 Cr ( 10-11 million ) kids studying in government schools across the country the temple puts some money , ppl give donation and govt give a bit which makes they do it it's the largest of its kind in the world

Your Wrong:- Organisation are giving taxes. Temple's in south India are giving 18% tax every year to Government and many other indian temple's are also giving tax direct and indirect both every year.
As per Indian Income Tax Act 1961, income of Charitable or religious trust is exempt from tax. The trust must apply 85% of income derived for its religious activities or the object of the trust the balance can be accumulated and used in subsequent year. Any donation made to such notified trust are allowed as deduction under section 80G of Income Tax Act. Being said this, most of the trust will apply funds for there religious activities there are so many instances were Income of temples was taxable since the same was not used for the aforesaid purposes. All the trust has to register under section 12AA of income tax act, they have to maintain accounts and get there accounts audited by a Chartered Accountant if there income is more than 1,80,000. Along with that they should also file Income Tax returns

To explain the tax benefits of temples in a very crude manner: If the temple receives 100 rupees in a year ( April to March) as donations, then it needs to spend at least rupees 85 on the activities for which it is established. ( You need not spend the balance 15 at all and keep that lying in the bank but if spent, it should be towards objective of the Trust only). If the temple is not able spend 85 rupees but only 75 rupees in a year, then it has to use the balance 10 rupees (85-75) in next five years. Till then , such amount needs to be kept in scheduled banks or fixed deposits of scheduled banks or other modes specified in Section 11(5). Any amount spent out of such accumulation amount will not be considered as “ application for expenses” in the year in which they are spent. The amount can be spent on either it's day to day activities or in acquiring any capital assets. It has to actually incur those 85 rupees ( that is non monetary expenses like depreciation will not be considered as expenses). Sometimes, temples receive donations for specific purposes ( corpus). Such amount do not form part of the above 100 rupees ( since they are exempted under section 11(1)(d)). But remember those corpus donations should be spent only for specific purposes for which they are used. If a temple borrows any loan and spends the amount, then such expenditure would not be considered as expenses. But when the loans are repaid, the amount will be considered as “ application” in the year of repayment. Any trust whose donations during the year crosses 2.5 lakhs needs to get their accounts audited. Chartered accountant will issue a report in Form 10B. This report will give the details of total amount expended, amount unspent, amount accumulated and other details including the details of amount given to trustees and relatives and other parties specified in Section 13(3) in the form of salary , rent, etc. So, to conclude, temples do not usually pay taxes but maintain proper records and get the books audited and file the returns.

How do u know that the temple doesn’t do the charity for people in need. And in older times kings and kingdom considered temples as the safest places to hide their treasure, in case the foreigners attack. That’s why after so much looting for centuries these treasures remained safe in the temple. And this discovery has a significant historical importance not nationally but internationally. Thanks to Travancore kings who gave best rule to Travancore state and served as guardian of the deity. Travancore was a independent indian state which is present kerala state. Those Hindu kings ensured 47 percent literacy for Travancore in 1947 when areas under British had only around 10 percent literacy. It is due to this fact that Kerala today has close to 100 percent literacy.

in first case it directly goes to govt no problem
in 2nd case the temples under trusts , they provide free food in the temple vicinity throughout the day ,3 course meal is provided , and they have their school where they provide education to poor fr free or for minimal money and good quality of education is provided , so no money is being wasted here , even if they r under a trusty group they have to submit their income and expenditure to the govt
iskon in India provides mid day meal to 1.5 Cr ( 10-11 million ) kids studying in government schools across the country the temple puts some money , ppl give donation and govt give a bit which makes they do it

Organisation are giving taxes.
Temple's in south India are giving 18% tax every year to Government and many other indian temple's are also giving tax direct and indirect both every year.
As per Indian Income Tax Act 1961, income of Charitable or religious trust is exempt from tax.
The trust must apply 85% of income derived for its religious activities or the object of the trust the balance can be accumulated and used in subsequent year.
Any donation made to such notified trust are allowed as deduction under section 80G of Income Tax Act.
Being said this, most of the trust will apply funds for there religious activities there are so many instances were Income of temples was taxable since the same was not used for the aforesaid purposes.
All the trust has to register under section 12AA of income tax act, they have to maintain accounts and get there accounts audited by a Chartered Accountant if there income is more than 1,80,000. Along with that they should also file Income Tax returns

To explain the tax benefits of temples in a very crude manner:
If the temple receives 100 rupees in a year ( April to March) as donations, then it needs to spend at least rupees 85 on the activities for which it is established. ( You need not spend the balance 15 at all and keep that lying in the bank but if spent, it should be towards objective of the Trust only).
If the temple is not able spend 85 rupees but only 75 rupees in a year, then it has to use the balance 10 rupees (85-75) in next five years. Till then , such amount needs to be kept in scheduled banks or fixed deposits of scheduled banks or other modes specified in Section 11(5). Any amount spent out of such accumulation amount will not be considered as “ application for expenses” in the year in which they are spent.
The amount can be spent on either it's day to day activities or in acquiring any capital assets. It has to actually incur those 85 rupees ( that is non monetary expenses like depreciation will not be considered as expenses).
Sometimes, temples receive donations for specific purposes ( corpus). Such amount do not form part of the above 100 rupees ( since they are exempted under section 11(1)(d)). But remember those corpus donations should be spent only for specific purposes for which they are used.
If a temple borrows any loan and spends the amount, then such expenditure would not be considered as expenses. But when the loans are repaid, the amount will be considered as “ application” in the year of repayment.
Any trust whose donations during the year crosses 2.5 lakhs needs to get their accounts audited. Chartered accountant will issue a report in Form 10B. This report will give the details of total amount expended, amount unspent, amount accumulated and other details including the details of amount given to trustees and relatives and other parties specified in Section 13(3) in the form of salary , rent, etc.
So, to conclude, temples do not usually pay taxes but maintain proper records and get the books audited and file the returns.

How do u know that the temple doesn’t do the charity for people in need. And in older times kings and kingdom considered temples as the safest places to hide their treasure, in case the foreigners attack. That’s why after so much looting for centuries these treasures remained safe in the temple. And this discovery has a significant historical importance not nationally but internationally. So it is a matter of proud .
Now tell me how does that treasure help the common people... It just fills up the pockets of the trust... Did they donate or contribute any part of that treasure which u are speaking for the well being of the people during the times of floods and other natural disasters...I am not declining the historical significance of these religious institutions I am just pointing out the wrong which are done by the common folks who run these religious institutions….
