Hey Everyone! Thanks for all the support on this video! I have made a follow up video (A second How to make a J-Pop song). If you enjoyed this video, you might want to check out the other one. You can watch via my channel or from this link ua-cam.com/video/Q76CwKU1vrQ/v-deo.html Thanks 😁
I am Japanese and often make cute anime-song like songs for Japanese singers. I have some advice for this tutorial, including my personal opinion. ∙ Piano is often a beautiful, moving phrase with lots of tension notes such as 7ths and 9ths. ∙ It is correct to use the strings as a pad-synthesizer. The purpose is to fill the space of the music. The bass rarely uses only the root note as in the video. Basically, we often use eighth notes to make fancy movements using root, 5th, 9th, etc. In the latter half of the chorus, use high frets as well. For sound effects, you can use impact like in EDM or wind chimes, glockenspiels, and timpani like in orchestras to make it even prettier. Finally, the song as a whole is often syncopated. Sometimes the entire instrumentation will be in tune with the rhythm of the melody. I'm rooting for you! Have fun!
I learned more in this silent tutorial than ANY other. We got to watch the whole process and I understood ALL of it without you saying a peep. Thank you. I subbed you for this
Only thing you did qrong was the bass. Thats all. The bass in jpop moves around on the scale. So instead of following the root notes. It moves onnthe scale to the root note. Playing the notes inbetween. Atleast. So i heard. Other than that. This is insanely well made. And i cannot thank you enouvh for this. Ive always had a bit of atruggle with jpop. And now j see what ive been doing wrong. Tha k you so muxh. Also. That fdim in the bridge. Holy shit. It should not be in amaj key, but it workd insanely well. Like holy shit. Im stealing that XD. Thanks!
@@siorganism so very simply put. You need to know what a scale is, a series of notes in a specific order. So Cmaj scale would be all the white notes on a piano. And the root note of a chord is the bass note, or the note of the chord. So Cmaj would have C as a root note. And Cmaj/E would still have C as a root note, but with an E in the bass. The bassline in jpop often follows the bassnotes in chords and rootnotes, but it also does some stuff inbetween the notes. Like adding some notes inbetween to move upwards or downwards. But sometimes the bass has its own full melody. And ive even seen songs where the bass plays completely different things than the melody and chords. It takes a while, but if you learn music theory, and learn to feel the music, you will understand.
For production practice I’m currently recreating this song and adding my own spin in rhythm and mainly the verse section and bridge . The chorus is essentially the same except I changed the fill at the end. It’s really fun! This definitely sets the foundation to creating both jpop music to music in general. Except as many have pointed out, the bass definitely has more action than what you’ve created but that’s okay! Haha
Wow interesting, i aslo made a recreation of this piece expect i added the rest of the song like the second verse, second bridge and second chorus etc, i also changed the first verse as well as added some suspense at some parts 👍
this is so amazing! I started making music in garageband not too long ago and never even knew some of the functions in this video, so tysm! gunna try to recreate this tomorrow
Nice, just wanna let you know that you can quantize in GarageBand instead of move all the notes to the right tempo. It would definitely save you a lot of time!
Just a quick tip instead of having to go back and fix every note to make sure it’s perfectly in time, just use go to your instrument and tap the button that to the left of FX, in there you should be able to add quantization so it’s perfect every time in the settings.
0:16 i am a violinist of 3 years so i have some music experience and know some music theory so i figured it was about time for me to start song composing and experimenting with voisona! i am a beginner with garageband though and i keep getting confused on this part, which keyboard selection did you choose? smart piano, alechmy synth, or something else? if anyone could tell me that would be great! thanks! :D
This is an extremely basic way of putting it LOL. Some suggestions I have are having more fun with the bass and drums. Try to mix your drums good so they sound like a studio drumkit. For the bass really just go crazy LMAO. The bass is like the main groove of the song for j rock, so having a solid bassline will help make this even better. Hope you continue making cool stuff!
1:35 i cant copy and paste my piano to the strings, it says to reposition the playhead so i did, but when i paste it just moves the playhead back to the end, and wont let me paste! can anyone help me? :(
and for people that love drums you just thinks that preson who record drum is your favourite drummer character from randomly anime (IMPORTANT) you must know their skills (example) i want ritsu drumming in my songs all i have to do is listening to all k-on song in 5hours or 2days then try to make it out close to ritsu
small piece of criticism from someone who probably shouldn't be giving it: the drums feel empty, maybe not what you wrote but the kit itself, and the back up piano is way to simple and isn't really adding anything.

The worst part of these kind of videos aren’t that they are not tutorials on how to make this kind of music, but that damn METRONOME.
Words cannot explain how much I hate that goddamn metronome
i'm a non musician so i genuinely don't know, what's wrong with the metronome haha
I learned more in this silent tutorial than ANY other. We got to watch the whole process and I understood ALL of it without you saying a peep. Thank you. I subbed you for this
Thank you so much!! I plan on making a Vocaloid like song, or something that is familiar to Vocaloids, and I just can’t thank you enough for this!! ^^

yes the bass is very groovy in basically most of japanese songs, also whats wrong with your keyboard xd
Yeah, I really like the bass on Japanese songs, they're very melodic and fun to listen to... Also fun to play...
Can you explain what you mean like Im five

this is so amazing! I started making music in garageband not too long ago and never even knew some of the functions in this video, so tysm! gunna try to recreate this tomorrow
In my anime-style compositions I very often use the IV - VIIø - iii - vi - ii - V - I chord progression.
Oh Tysm this might as well help(I’m not good at this theory stuff so depending on what chord I use I have to firhure put)
Nice, just wanna let you know that you can quantize in GarageBand instead of move all the notes to the right tempo. It would definitely save you a lot of time!
I use my phone to look at Prince Harry memes. What am I doing with my life!

Thats why bocchi the rock anime make us inspiration and making own music it was good idea

Hello, I like your project production very much, can you share your midi project? Thanks
Can someone tell me why does he use Fdim and manage to have it blend so well with this scale?
Fdim is a no-root V dominant chord of the F#min, the Amaj relative minor mode.
Idk if anyone is understanding, this is all done on a phone
what is the app name?
This music reminds me of take me on meme
Nice chord
Is this free use like a creative Commons or would I have to pay to use this song

Yup it does
Didn’t notice that lol
Bro.. we need a music video.(pls)
How did you copy and paste (convert) one instrument onto another 😳😵💫😧
Is it possible to use Adobe Audition to make anime music.
Awesome song!!! I also tried making a song once but it turned out awful 😭
now add lyrics and you get an anime opening
Ever had a tutorial make you feel bloody inferior.
Comparison is the thief of joy. I'm sure they probably had more practice than you at the very least. But i'm sure you can get there
bro cooked
Garage band and logic are great!! But the drum kits are ass unless you play around with the sounds properly imo
chords almost sound like viva la vida
it is apple exclusive
I'm sad when Garageband is for iphone and I am android user :(
I thought it was Take on Me
Hi, what software/app is this? Is it free?
it’s GarageBand, for iOS devices like Iphone or Ipad, and it’s free system app
